Magic choker.

Description

The Gold Choker is an early game add-on in Final Fantasy IX that everyone can equip. It teaches Auto-Potion, which allows the character to automatically use a potion when hit by an enemy; Flee-Gil, which allows the party to still gain some gil from manually escaped battles; and the Shell White Magic spell that mitigates magic damage to a target. The Gold Choker gives a bonus to the wearer's Magic when they level up with it equipped. The choker is made via synthesis and is itself used to make a different add-on.

Obtain[]

The Gold Choker is synthesized in Treno, Lindblum (second storyline visit onward), and Black Mage Village for 1,300 gil, a Linen Cuirass, and a Soft. Linen Cuirass is sold in Treno.

Mechanics[]

The Gold Choker gives +2 to physical Evasion and +1 to Magic Defense. It gives a +2 bonus to the wearer's Magic when they level with it equipped. When enough "bonuses" upon level up from gear have been accrued, the character gains a permanent stat increase. Magic is used for calculating spells' outcomes and determines MP growth.

Use[]

The Gold Choker has two good abilities and a good level up bonus for an early game add-on. Auto-Potion and Shell are good to master; Auto-Potion can be useful when the party has no dedicated healer, and before Auto-Regen becomes commonplace, and Shell can be situationally useful.

The Gold Choker is used in synthesis to make the Anklet.

The choker's level up bonus is good but level grinding and min-maxing are unnecessary for a normal playthrough even when preparing for superboss encounters; the player can view any extra stats as simply a nice bonus.
