Final Fantasy Wiki

The Gold Barrette is a weapon for Red XIII in Final Fantasy VII. It is has five Materia slots, four of which are linked. The weapon has modest stats on par with weapons available for other characters at the time.

Like all Red XIII's weapons, Gold Barrette is not rendered or visible in-game, and also cannot be thrown.

Obtained[]

The Gold Barrette can be purchased for 6,000 gil from Wutai.

Mechanics[]

As the Gold Barrette has a base Attack stat bonus of 50, the base damage for physical attacks when the Gold Barrette is equipped is in the following formula:

where "Level" is Red XIII's current level and "Strength" is his Strength stat. The Gold Barrette also has an Attack% (Accuracy) of 104%, and grants a +13 bonus to Red XIII's Magic stat.

Use[]

The Gold Barrette has stats on-par with other weapons available at Wutai. It is a modest upgrade over the Silver Barrette in terms of pure stats and has an extra Materia slot.

The Gold Barrette has five Materia slots, four of which are linked. Red XIII's own stats, as well as the strong Magic boost by the weapon, make him one of the best mages below only Cloud and Aeris. Therefore, Red XIII should equip Magic or Summon Materia, and make use of the ability to pair Support Materia on two of the slots. The additional unpaired slot can be used either for Independent Materia to improve Red XIII's stats, or for spare Command Materia (Red XIII is a good choice for Enemy Skill Materia due to his Magic stat).

The Gold Barrette is outclassed by the Adaman Clip, which is available first at the Icicle Inn. The Adaman Clip is a more substantial upgrade over the Silver Barrette, meaning some players may opt to skip the Gold Barrette. The Seraph Comb, obtained after the Cave of the Gi automatically, is also a more substantial upgrade, but does not have linked Materia slots.
