The Goblin King is a goblin sorcerer in Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles, setting up base in Goblin Wall. He leads the legion of goblins which infests the Tipa Peninsula. When the caravanners enter the king's dominion, he will call out his underlings to start the engagement. He bears a definite resemblance to the familiar Goblin Shamans who lurk about the stage.

Stats

Battle

The Goblin King is one of the weakest bosses in the game, but proves difficult to beat due to his ability to teleport around the area and his high amount of supporting goblins. He primarily attacks by casting spells, meaning the players are able to evade most attacks with ease, but his minions will make it harder to avoid damage.

  • Staff - Simply, the king will hit you with his staff if you get too close too him. It is fast and knocks you back, meaning the best way to approach him is when he is preoccupied with something else or attacking from afar.
  • Bio - Similar to the attack which the Ochus of Mushroom Forest, the Goblin King can summon a green bubbling orb which explodes, dealing light damage and poisoning anyone close enough.
  • Firaga, Thundaga, and Blizzaga - The Goblin King also uses elemental magic attacks. These are slow to cast but have very wide range and can be devastating if they hit the player.
  • Slow - The king can also utilize time spells although initially harmless it potentially leave you at the mercy of his army and leave you open to powerful spells from the king himself while under its effect.

Support Monsters

One of the most irritating and difficult parts of the battle with the Goblin King is his horde of lesser goblins which endlessly get in the way of the main objective. They are the same, simple monsters fought in the rest of the dungeon. Taking them out should be easy.

Strategy

The easiest way to win this fight is to destroy the goblins, chase down the king, and wait for him to begin casting a spell. Be sure to lure his magic circle far enough away that you can safely attack him without getting hit. When his henchmen run out, kill them quickly when you get a chance, then go back to attacking the king himself. You can also just stay at one side, and when he appears, release a focus attack or magic blast.

As with most bosses, he is resistant to Stop and Slow spells, but his low HP make him an easy target for a few Blizzara or Thundara spells. Perhaps one of the easiest bosses for the Yukes, and yet potentially hardest for the Selkies. The Selkies' main concern should be on the Spear Goblins, as the racket needs to focus in order to gain its full power potential.

Etymology

A goblin is a small, mischievous creature found in many European folk tales and legends. The word "goblin" comes from the Norman French word Gobelinus, the name of a ghost that haunted the town of Évreux in the 12th century.
