Robe worn by Qus.

Description

The Glutton's Robe is a mid to endgame robe in Final Fantasy IX for Quina. It teaches Antibody, which immunizes against Poison; Auto-Regen, which lets Quina passively regenerate health mid battle; and Body Temp, which immunizes against Heat and Freeze. Wearing the Glutton's Robe weakens Quina to Fire and gives a bonus to their Strength and Magic stats when they level up with it equipped.

Obtain[]

Glutton's Robe synthesis from FFIX Remastered

The Glutton's Robe is synthesized in Daguerreo for 6,000 gil, a Mythril Fork, and a Cotton Robe. The fork is bought in Lindblum, and the Cotton Robe is also made in synthesis.

The Glutton's Robe is also stolen from Quale and Kraken.

Mechanics[]

The Glutton's Robe provides 41 Defense and 4 Magic Defense, mainly mitigating physical damage. It weakens Quina to Fire, making them sustain 150% damage from Fire attacks. If they also wear a Black Hood or Ribbon or Protect Ring, halving Fire damage, they will take ~75% damage from Fire. The Fire weakness is not mentioned in the flavor text; the only way the player can see it written out is when using Scan on Quina while in battle.

The robe gives a +1 bonus to the wearer's Strength and Magic stats when they level up with it equipped. When enough "bonuses" upon level up from gear have been accrued, the character gains a permanent stat increase. Strength affects Quina's damage with Attack (though their damage is randomized) and HP growth, while Magic determines Quina's spell damage for Earth Shake and MP growth.

Use[]

The Glutton's Robe is a good robe for Quina which they can wear until the end of the game. The player could potentially get it early by grinding the frog catching game, but the player is most likely to get it once they have Hilda Garde III.

Antibody and Auto-Regen are good to master for everyone, and Body Temp can be situationally useful as well. The player should keep Auto-Regen equipped at all times ever since learning it.

The Fire weakness can be a detriment against Garuda, Grenade, Wraith, Vepal, Agares, Cerberus, Mover, Chimera, Stilva, Worm Hydra, Earth Guardian, Maliris, Tiamat, and the final boss.

The Glutton's Robe's level up bonuses are good as Quina is a mage who can also benefit from Strength, but level grinding and min-maxing are unnecessary in a normal playthrough even for superboss encounters. The best stat boost equipment pieces are available in the end of the game, and so it would be worthwhile to limit EXP intake until they are available.
