Glass Goth

Glass Goth is the main antagonist in Chocobo's Dungeon 2. He is battled several times in the story. As the final boss, he possesses two forms which must be fought with no pause in between.

Story[]

Spoiler warning: Plot and/or ending details follow. (Skip section)

Glass Goth is initially introduced as an antagonist from the future, where he has supposedly wiped out humanity, who has traveled into the past and is somehow connected to the Mysterious Dungeon, also originating in a future time. However, as the story continues it is eventually revealed that Glass Goth is not exactly what he appears to be.

Early on in the game, Mog discovers a large crystal within the depths of the Mysterious Dungeon. At the time there is also a Guz present, whom Mog threatens and chases away. With help from Bahamut, it is eventually explained that after being forced to leave by Mog, the Guz returned, hearing a voice from the crystal that apparently promises it anything it desires. The creature asks for power, the power to defend itself, and no longer be "picked on", and so begins a process in which the Guz evolves into Glass Goth.

This places Glass Goth in the future, but his connection to the past allows him to return to that time, even when Shiroma attempts to send him, the dungeon, and herself, back to what is initially perceived to be their own time. The negative feelings of this Guz are also named as the cause for the behavior of the villagers and the presence of the Mysterious Dungeon itself.

After being defeated at the end of the main story, Glass Goth returns in his original form but appears to be unable to maintain it. Eventually, it takes up residence in the doll Shiroma created earlier in the game instead, becoming the new character Kuz, who is available for use in the revived version of the Snow Mountain Dungeon as well as being a selectable second character for the secret dungeon if the player decides to participate in the Bonus Mode. As a party member, Kuz has low HP and weak physical attacks. He can, however, shoot a beam at enemies from a distance which morphs him into that enemy for a limited period of time.

The monstrous form of Glass Goth is encountered by Kuz again during his foray into the Snow Mountain Dungeon. He recognizes Kuz and observes that Kuz's soul remains dark despite his reincarnation. When defeated, he acknowledges how strong Kuz has become before he disappears.

Spoilers end here.

Boss overview[]

Glass Goth has no elemental resistances and is weak to Holy and Fire.

Battle 1[]

Glass Goth is the boss of Snowy Mountain, the fourth dungeon. He is encountered on 23F. Cid is the ally party member for this battle.

In this form, he has four abilities:

  • Scratch
  • Jump Slash
  • Silence Flash
  • Mini Flash

It is recommended to take advantage of any Fire books until Glass Goth closes in, as he frequently inflicts Silence once in melee. Bringing a No-Dwarf Saddle or an equivalent one is useful to resist Mini; Lv 39 and 3-4 Hi-Potions are sufficient to win.

Battle 2[]

Glass Goth Z is the final boss of the main scenario. He is fought on 26F of the fallen Mysterious Dungeon, the sixth area. Mog is the mandatory party member for this battle.

In this form, he has two abilities:

  • Bite
  • Mouth Beam

Without status attacks, this is a straightforward battle. It is possible to position Mog diagonally between Glass Goth and Chocobo so that the boss will focus on Mog. Glass Goth will attack for 22-30 damage; when he begins charging, he will wait 3 turns before breathing in an arc and dealing 30 damage to both.

After taking enough damage, Glass Goth evolves one final time. The screen will spin and turn black, starting the second phase. In this form, Glass Goth alternates before physical attacks and charging a powerful beam that deals around 90 damage. In this form, he has 4000 HP.

Battle 3[]

Glass Goth is fought solo by Kuz in the postgame dungeon replay. It retains the same defenses and vulnerabilities from the main game. Morph Tonics will have no effect if used on this floor, and Summon Stones cannot be used by Kuz.

The following statuses and abilities have no effect on Glass Goth:

  • Slow
  • Frog
  • Sleep
  • Poison
  • Drain

At least 3 Hi-Potions are recommended to have for Kuz's final battle. Fire Books are the best offensive option; if Glass Goth is at a distance, Crash Stones can be thrown for 50 damage per toss. At low HP, Glass Goth will start using Flash attacks repeatedly.
