Overview[]

Gladiators are similar to Fighters in that they have identical stat growths and share several abilities. Gladiators have high attack, HP, and defense, with low magic power and resistance. The Spellblade abilities provide a decent selection of elemental damage, and their Ultima Sword is the Ultima ability for the bangaa. However, Gladiators have many shortcomings. Their ability set is lacking, having no ranged attacks. They are often compared negatively towards a similar offensive class, the Dragoon. They have slightly higher MP than usual, but few ways to use their MP supply. Silence can affect Gladiators more than most other bangaa, as it takes away a few of their abilities. Overall, Gladiators are a somewhat unusual offensive class that generally pales in comparison to the Dragoon, but they can still hold up on their own.

Most physical walls can go up against enemy Gladiators without much worry, since they have no supporting abilities. Ranged units and mages can toast Gladiators while keeping their distance.

Etymology[]

A gladiator (Latin: gladiator, "swordsman", from gladius, "sword") was an armed combatant who entertained audiences in the Roman Republic and Roman Empire in violent confrontations with other gladiators, wild animals, and condemned criminals. Some gladiators were volunteers but most were slaves schooled under harsh conditions. Gladiators were celebrated in art, and it became a feature of politics and social life in the Roman world.

Trivia[]

  • Despite wielding one in their official artwork, Gladiators cannot equip shields without the aid of the Warrior job's support ability Shieldbearer.
