Glacial Eye is a flying enemy in Final Fantasy VIII, known in the Japanese version as Gaze Eye. It is fought on the plains of Balamb, being a good source of Blizzard spells at the beginning of the game. During the Balamb Garden Revolt event, Glacial Eyes are fought inside the Garden and one, accompanied by a Bomb, is summoned by the Garden Faculty at the quad.
The Glacial Eye is a flying monster that uses Ice-elemental attacks. It is immune to Ice and weak against Fire. Unlike most flying enemies, it is not weak to Wind. When its HP drops to 25%, it may use Vampire to damage a target and restore HP to itself equal to the damage inflicted.
At medium and high levels, it may petrify its opponents with its Petrify Stare. It also uses Reflect on itself and can bounce back Silence, both as a counter-attack against magical attacks.
This enemy is useful for stocking up on magic, and its spoils can be made into higher tier ice spells with I Mag-RF.
Glacial Eye can be carded into Jumbo Cactuar cards, which are powerful in the early game.
Strategy[]
Summoning Ifrit will destroy it. Using Ifrit's Elem-Atk-J and junctioning fire spells to a character's physical attack dispatches it even faster.
The Glacial Eye serves as both a common enemy and an enemy class from which other species can be derived.

The Glacial Eye appeared as a water-elemental Mage ability card for players to summon during the Final Fantasy VIII collaboration event. It allowed player characters to perform the Frigid Gaze (凍りつく魔眼, Kōritsuku Mame?, lit. Freezing Magic Eye) Mage ability, which dealt water damage to enemies within an area of effect several times. Additionally, the attack generated a water element orb and granted Attuned Chain to the user's attacks.
