Gillie Boots is an accessory in Final Fantasy XII that makes the wearer immune to Oil, and in the Zodiac versions also provides +3 to Defense, +1 to Strength and +10 to Speed.

Obtain[]

Original[]

In the original PlayStation 2 versions, the Gillie Boots can be bought for 700 gil from Mt Bur-Omisace, Mosphoran Highwaste, and Phon Coast. It is found as a treasure in Tomb of Raithwall's Northfall Passage (near the central device; 100% chance to appear, 60% chance for gil, 50% chance the item treasure is Gillie Boots without the Diamond Armlet Map 48 The Tomb of Raithwall), Henne Mines' Phase 1 Dig (45% chance to appear, 45% chance for gil, 50% chance the item treasure is Gillie Boots without the Diamond Armlet Map 15 Henne Mines), Cerobi Steppe's North Liavell Hills (50% chance to appear, 65% chance for gil, 50% chance the item treasure is Gillie Boots without the Diamond Armlet Map 04 Cerobi Steppe), and Nabreus Deadlands' Lifeless Strand (on the little "island" in the middle; 60% chance to appear, 60% chance for gil, 50% chance the item treasure is Gillie Boots without the Diamond Armlet Map 21 NabreusDeadlands).

They are made in the bazaar in the "Ninja Footgear" set by selling two Slaven Harnesses (monograph drop from Slaven Warder). The Gillie Boots is also a hunt reward for Vorpal Bunny.

Zodiac[]

In the updated Zodiac versions, the Gillie Boots cannot be bought from shops, but are found as a treasure in Mosphoran Highwaste's Trail of Sky-flung Stone (always appears), Ridorana Cataract's City of Other Days (always appears), and Subterra's Umbra - South (70% chance to appear, 80% chance for gil, 50% chance the item treasure is Gillie Boots without the Diamond Armlet). It is still made in the bazaar in the "Ninja Footgear" pack with the same requirements as before, and remains a hunt reward for the Vorpal Bunny.

Use[]

The Gillie Boots makes the wearer immune to Oil, which makes the afflicted take triple damage from Fire abilities. The boots could be useful against enemies that use Oil, though their stat boots in the Zodiac versions may be the larger benefit of the accessory. An alternative would be to set up gambits for Handkerchief. Ribbons also make the Gillie Boots redundant as they protect against all status ailments, but are also available much later into the game. There are no equipment that provide immunity or absorption for fire attacks, but enemies that use Oil are few regardless. The best use of the boots is probably against Belias.

Etymology[]

A "gillie" is a Scottish word for a man/boy who attends someone on a hunting or fishing expedition. "Gillie" is also a type of shoe with laces along the instep and no tongue used especially for Scottish country dancing.
