Final Fantasy Wiki

Throw gil, damaging all foes in range.

Description

Gil Toss is a Technick in Final Fantasy XII that consumes gil to deal fixed damage to all enemies in range. The amount of gil spent depends on the party members' combined HP value. Gil Toss is purchased from certain Technicks shops in the original PlayStation 2 version, and is found in a treasure in the Zodiac versions. In the original version, all player characters who have the License Board can activate it. In the Zodiac versions, it is used by certain jobs.

Obtain[]

The license for Gil Toss costs 30 License Points in the Zodiac versions, and 35 in the original. In the original PlayStation 2 version, Gil Toss is sold in Technicks shops for 2000 gil in Jahara and later on in Rabanastre and Nalbina Fortress after defeating Judge Bergan.

In the Zodiac versions, the Technick is found in Draklor Laboratory 70th Floor - Room 7002 East. If not picked up there, it is found in Pharos - Second Ascent Station of Ascension. The treasures always appear.

In the Zodiac versions, the Gil Toss license can be used by the job classes Machinist, Archer, Bushi, and Shikari, though the latter requires Mateus to reach it.

Mechanics[]

One gil equals one damage point, and the amount of gil thrown is the sum of current party members' HP divided by the number of enemies in range. Gil Toss is considered physical damage and thus is nullified against enemies who put up a paling. The damage caps at 9,999 each toss (divided between enemies). Damage is still capped even if the general damage cap was lifted for the Zodiac versions.

Gil Toss reaches flying targets. It awakes sleeping targets and the user gains MP if they have the Inquisitor license.

Use[]

Gil Toss can be powerful, but using it is expensive. The player can grind for gil for it by equipping the Cat-ear Hood accessory. It is most useful when a boss, mark, or Rare Game enters critical HP and gains a major damage-reduction, since Gil Toss deals a fixed amount of damage provided the enemy is not immune to physical damage. It could also be useful against enemies that resist damage a lot, like flan types, or the Magick Pot.

Gil Toss can be useful against Chaos where the Attack command is sealed. It can also be good in New Game Minus or a low level challenge run.
