The Gigantuar is a boss in the Advance and 2014 versions of Final Fantasy VI.
Based on the Final Fantasy VIII boss Jumbo Cactuar, it is a giant Cactuar that appears in the desert outside Maranda after the cataclysm; one of the thieves in the town mentions a "Giant Cactuar" when talked to. If the player defeats ten or more Cactuars in the neighboring desert, and then steps on a specific tile , the Gigantuar will appear, and upon defeat, will drop the Cactuar magicite.
Stats[]
Battle[]
Gigantuar has a high Evasion stat, and can be hard to hit. It will attack with 1000 Needles on a regular basis. It counters attacks with Knockdown, which deals heavy damage. Gigantuar is both weak to and absorbs Water. When all its HP is depleted, Gigantuar will use ten 1000 Needles attacks.
Strategy[]
Boosting the party's physical defense is a priority. Physical defense will not block Gigantuar's needle attacks, but will prevent its Knockdown move from annihilating a lower level party. Summoning the Golem protects everyone from Gigantuar's Knockdown attack in one turn.
The party should use as many unblockable attacks as possible, such as Ultima, Tools, Blitz, Bushido, and Throw. To ensure surviving Gigantuar's final attack, the party can use Reraise or initiate Jump before the final attack is triggered.
