Genji Glove is an accessory in Crisis Core -Final Fantasy VII-. One of the ultimate accessories in the game, it provides Zack with Break Damage Limit (setting his damage limit to be 99,999) and permanent Critical status effect (causing all his attacks to be critical hits). It is one of four Genji equipment pieces in Crisis Core, along with the Genji Helm, Genji Armor, and Genji Shield.

Obtained[]

Genji Glove is found in a treasure chest in "M9-6-4: Biomechanical Threats". The "M9: Great Cavern of Wonders" series of missions is unlocked through the series "M8: Zack, the Materia Hunter".

Use[]

Genji Glove outclasses the Brutal and Sniper Eye accessories, and the Critical inducing results on the Digital Mind Wave for its unpredictability. Of these, Brutal (which provides the 99,999 damage limit) is the most important, meaning Genji Glove primarily serves as a simple upgrade to Brutal.

With the damage limit broken, Zack can consistently deal 99,999 damage with Costly Punch and Graviga (to most enemies) attacks, while even his normal attacks can deal well over 9,999 damage with the right stats. As such, once acquired, the accessory is essential to keep equipped.

Due to its relatively far availability within some of the most challenging missions in the game, Brutal will generally serve as a suitable and more accessible accessory to allow breaking the damage limit. The Divine Slayer is considered the best incarnation of the points stat limit breaking accessories, which is only available upon defeating the game's premier superboss, and is only a few missions away, although the Genji Glove will be best due to the difficulty of the battle.

Etymology and origin[]

Genji equipment is a recurring type of powerful equipment in the Final Fantasy series, but none appeared in the original Final Fantasy VII. So far, Crisis Core is the only Final Fantasy VII universe game that includes them.

The surname of Genji refers to the onyomi reading of the Minamoto Clan. Minamoto was a surname commonly bestowed on the children of the Emperor who were not eligible for the throne. According to history and legend, they were most active in the days of the late Heian era, and were samurai who became known as the fighters of evil and keepers of peace. The time was said to have been fraught with disorder and anarchy. Many future samurai claim lineage from the clan, including Miyamoto Musashi and Tokugawa Ieyasu who were subject of literary discourse from The Tale of Genji, which follows royal figures, to The Tale of the Heike, focusing on the major figures and the events of the Genpei War.

Genji is also a short period in Japanese history, lasting only a single year from 1864–1865.
