Template:Sideicon Template:LRFFXIII Enemy Gaunt is an enemy appearing in Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII. It can be found in Luxerion's graveyard, or in the Dead Dunes' Temple Ruins.

Battle

Gaunt is a tough enemy for new players; while it is weak to Lightning, Gaunt has a high defense against magic. While it is tempting to use Sparkstrike, Gaunts are prone to counterattack with a close-range attack that also inflicts Curse, and following up with successive Aero spells, preventing the player to defend or retaliate. Furthermore, Gaunts are capable of casting Aerora, which can often deal significant damage even when the player is blocking and Debrave to reduce the player's physical attack power. Sometimes, they can enter battle assisted with a Gremlin, which makes the battle even more difficult.

Strategy

Gaunts are fast and are difficult to outrun due to its speed. The best way to fight it is to maintain distance while bombarding it with Lightning-elemental spells. As soon as the Gaunt is Staggered, it is inflicted with Curse, thereby allowing the player interrupt the Gaunt's attacks. Another alternative is using debuffs such as Poison and Deshell, which the Gaunt is vulnerable to. The accessory Stormbane Choker, which reduces Wind damage, can be obtained within the graveyard area, which can tremendously help against Gaunts.

Luxerion's graveyard must be visited in order to progress the Luxerion Main Quest, and therefore, some battles with Gaunts may be unavoidable. Afterwards however, the graveyard can be avoided entirely to avoid battling Gaunts until the player has better stats, abilities, or equipments.
