Garula is an enemy, a boss, and even a docile creature in Final Fantasy V. They are mammoth-like monsters covered in brown wool. For those seeking the bestiary entry, Garula are located in the grassy areas near the Walse Meteorite.
A girl in the town of Walse informs the player that the creatures live in the forest near Walse Tower, near her is a Garula that cannot be fought, and evidences the kind nature of the monsters. In contrast, a Garula, which can be inferred was possessed by Exdeath, defies their benevolent nature and attacks the king's army before climbing the tower to destroy the Water Crystal.
In the Finest Fantasy for Advance and the now discontinued 2013 versions, it is also fought in the Cloister of the Dead of the Sealed Temple bonus dungeon.

Battle[]
As a standard foe, Garulas do not attack. The randomly encountered Garula is impossible to lose against (other than by killing one's own party on purpose). After three turns of doing nothing, the Garula will escape. They can be found near Walse Tower in the First World and in a forest in the Third World. Three turns will pass before it flees the fight.
A stronger Garula is fought as a boss within Walse Tower. It likes to throw its weight around and can be difficult for a lower-level team. Its attacks are physical, and can nearly (if not outright) KO any mages. Garula counterattacks an attack with a combination of attacks and Charge (a physical attack that causes continuous damage over time afterwards), often several times in one turn. The number of times Garula counters seems to increase as its health decreases, making the fight more difficult as time goes on. Garula is susceptible to Toad and Paralyze.
Strategy[]
One option is to make most party members Knights and have them constantly attack while a White Mage heals, or give two Knights White Magic as their secondary ability.
Another strategy is to use a party composed of Monks and to have them use Chakra every turn to keep the party healthy. Garula will attack, which will cause the party to counter. This prevents Garula from countering with multiple attacks on the same turn as the counterattack does not register as a regular attack.
A simple strategy involves having a White Mage cast Silence on Garula before having a Blue Mage cast Pond's Chorus on it. Garula will cast Toad on itself next turn in an attempt to turn back to normal, but it will have no effect. It will continue to cast Toad every turn until it reverts when the Silence wears off.
Paralyze can be inflicted by the whip earned from Magissa. Level 3 Blue Mages using Goblin Punch from the back row will inflict increased damage.
Additionally, the player can use the Ice Rod obtained in Carwen to kill Garula instantly with Blizzaga.
