This article is in need of a few pictures. Perhaps you can help by uploading a picture of Garuda-Egi using Slipstream and Devotion.

Garuda-Egi is a Summoner Summoner pet in Final Fantasy XIV. It is called by the Summon Summon ability. Egis are arcane constructs created using the lingering aetheric essence of a defeated primal, in this case the Lady of the Vortex, Garuda.

Obtained[]

Garuda-Egi is obtained during the level 45 Summoner quest Austerities of Wind Austerities of Wind. Upon completing the quest battle, Garuda-Egi permanently replaces the Emerald Carbuncle previously called by Summon. Unlike most other abilities, this change will apply even if the Summoner is level synced below level 45, allowing them to retain the increased action potencies the Egi has over the Carbuncle. The only way for a player to truly summon Emerald Carbuncle again after unlocking Garuda-Egi is to unequip their Soul of the Summoner Soul of the Summoner and revert to Arcanist Arcanist. The Summoner may also choose to glamour their Garuda-Egi with the appearance of a Carbuncle, but this is aesthetic only and it will continue using Garuda-Egi's abilities.

Use[]

Garuda-Egi specializess in ranged area of effect (AoE) attacks. All of its actions deal damage to the target and nearby enemies, including its auto-attack Wind Blade. In most encounters with 3 or more enemies, Garuda-Egi will provide the best damage output of the Egis. This makes it well suited to dealing with regular enemies in dungeons. Any less than 3 enemies, such as boss encounters, and Ifrit-Egi will generally provide better output.

Garuda-Egi's Egi Assault Egi Assault, Aerial Slash, deals AoE damage with no additional effect.

Its Egi Assault II Egi Assault II, Slipstream, deals less damage initially but applies a damage over time (DoT) effect in the target area for greater overall damage. The DoT area is maintained by the Gale Enforcer Gale Enforcer buff on the Egi; should the buff be removed or the summon be dismissed for any reason, the DoT area will immediately vanish. The Gale Enforcer area is also stationary, and risks losing out on damage ticks should the enemies move out of the area. Only one Gale Enforcer can be active at any time, so it is recommended to use Aerial Slash instead while Gale Enforcer is active.

Garuda-Egi's Enkindle Enkindle, Aerial Blast, deals heavy AoE damage, but has the lowest total potency of all Enkindles. Despite this, its ease of use combined with Garuda-Egi's superior AoE output makes it the Enkindle of choice for AoE encounters.

All Egi's use Devotion when commanded by Aetherpact Aetherpact, increasing damage dealt by nearby party members by 5%. As with other support AoEs it has a 15y radius, so party members should try to remain within 15y to ensure they can all benefit from Devotion and other support AoEs. Garuda-Egi being a ranged pet grants Devotion's AoE more flexibility, as the Summoner can place it somewhere to ensure it reaches further away party members while still reach melee. However, Garuda-Egi will also stray behind the party in dungeons and other multi-encounter duties as it engages enemies at 25y, so Summoners will need to correct its placement before using Aetherpact lest Devotion not affect the whole party.

Summoning abilities are all off the global cooldown (oGCD) with a shared 3s recast, granting Summoners significant freedom in switching their active summons in combat. This can allow Summoners to quickly switch to Garuda-Egi during the add phase of a boss encounter to take advantage of its superior AoE damage. Summoners may also wish to temporarily switch to Titan-Egi during AoE encounters to use its Egi Assault II, Mountain Buster Mountain Buster, as it provides greater AoE damage than Slipstream, before quickly switching back to Garuda-Egi for its greater overall AoE DPS.

Actions[]

Without the Summoner's input, Garuda-Egi will only auto-attack with Wind Blade. In order for Garuda-Egi to use its other actions, the Summoner must command it to do so with Egi Assault, Egi Assault II, Enkindle, or Aetherpact.

Etymology[]

Garuda is a large, birdlike creature that appears in both Hinduism and Buddhism. It serves as Lord Vishnu's mount and is the Hindu name for the constellation Aquila. Contemporary representations of Garuda are the brahminy kite and phoenix.

Egi, meaning "I have done", "I have accomplished", "I have led", or "I have pursued (a course of action)", is the first-person singular perfect active indicative form of the Latin verb ago, which generally means "I act" or "I do".
