Gargantua is a Triple Triad card in Final Fantasy VIII used to play the minigame and for turning into items with Quezacotl's Card Mod. Gargantua is the seventieth card in the inventory and the fourth Level 7 card. It depicts Gargantua, a boss fought in the final dungeon to unlock the party's sealed ability.
Gargantua has middling values but its value placements may also be useful for games that use Same and/or Plus.
Obtain[]
There is a 6.3% chance to get a Gargantua card when successfully using the Card command on Imp or Thrustaevis.
Any AI Triple Triad player who uses Level 7 cards has a chance of using Gargantua in a play, from where the player can win it in a card match. One such card player is CC Heart of the Card Club. In the end of the game, all CC members besides Jack and Club will play with Level 7 cards when aboard the Ragnarok if the player completed the CC quest before the point of no return.
Card Mod[]
Ten Gargantua cards refine into a Strength Love with Quezacotl's Card Mod ability. It can be used to speed up Guardian Force development by teaching them Str+20%, but the ten-card requirement is steep and thus it is faster to simply grind battles to learn the ability than to deliberately go for the item. The superior Power Wrist for Str+40% will also be available in shops in the late game. Teaching GFs that don't already know any Str+ abilities these skills is not very useful either unless the player has missed some. Strength Love further refines into Aura Stones, but collecting Blue Dragon cards is the superior method of farming for Aura via cards.
Physical version[]
In 1999, following the release of Final Fantasy VIII in Japan, Bandai produced a full set of collectible Triple Triad cards in Final Fantasy VIII Carddass Masters Perfect Visuals. The set was made up of the 110 cards as seen in the game along with 72 artwork cards and a collector's edition playing mat. The cards have a blue side and a red side. The cards have become a rare collector's item.
