Gargantua is an optional boss in Final Fantasy VIII found in Ultimecia Castle armory. It initially appears as a Vysage. If the player missed it earlier, they can draw the Guardian Force Cerberus from it. Defeating Gargantua allows the party to unlock one of their sealed abilities.
Stats[]
Battle[]
The battle starts with Lefty, Righty and Vysage; after they have been defeated, the Gargantua emerges.
Gargantua uses Counter-twist to counter any physical attacks on the attacker. It is a critical attack move. Evil Eye causes damage along with inflicting Slow and Curse. It also uses Berserk and Silence against the party.
Strategy[]
An easy way to defeat Gargantua is to have one member of the party have the Recover ability, have someone cast Zombie onto the boss and then hit him with Recover. The player will have needed to unlock Magic and Command beforehand. If the player lacks Recover, they can also use curative magic and items.
Having Auto-Haste stops the party from being slowed. The Curse status does not matter if the player has not unlocked Limit Breaks yet, but if they have, Curse can be cured with magic and items. The best spells to have in the party's ST-Def-J are Berserk and Pain, as the latter also protects from Curse. The player can also draw-cast Reflect or summon Carbuncle to bounce the Gargantua's spells back onto itself; though the spells will not hurt it, the player can avoid them.
If fighting the Gargantua without the Zombie tactic, the player can bestow Protect to the characters who will physically attack. If the physical attacker gets berserked, it is not necessary to heal them if they were going to physically attack anyway, as Berserk only makes them stronger. The player could also have Cover on the sturdiest character and place him/her to the middle position of the party formation. Counter and Cover still activate while using Defend, so it is good to use this particular setup on the character. The player party can inflict Gargantua with Vit 0 with Meltdown or Doomtrain, if available, to be able to deal more damage to it. Summoning Cerberus, the player can triple-cast powerful magic to avoid the counter-twist, or draw-cast Quake from the boss itself.
The party can also use Kamikaze for an easy win.
Triple Triad[]
Gargantua is a Level 7 Boss Card in Triple Triad used for playing the minigame and turning into Strength Love (10:1) with Quezacotl's Card Mod. It is a rare outcome from using Card command on Imp or Thrustaevis,
