Futures Rewritten, commonly abbreviated by players as FRU, is an Ultimate raid introduced in patch 7.11 "Crossroads" of Final Fantasy XIV: Dawntrail. To unlock the ultimate raid, players must complete the Raid AAC Light-heavyweight M4 (Savage), and then talk with the Wandering Minstrel in Tuliyollal.
Story[]
Drawing upon his ever-fertile imagination, the wandering minstrel weaves his own interpretation of the events surrounding the Flood of Light, the calamity that engulfed nigh the entirety of the First. From the cause of the flood to the outcome of the struggles that followed, the man's evocative verse conjures up vivid images in your mind's eye—images of an alternate future that may have unfolded for Ryne, the young Oracle of Light...
In-game description
Progression[]
Being hit by avoidable AoEs in the encounter gives a Damage Down debuff that reduces damage dealt by the player by 90% for three minutes, similar to The Omega Protocol (Ultimate). Additionally, taking stack mechanics with fewer than the intended number of players gives a Mark of Mortality debuff based on how many players were missing, and functions and lasts similarly to Damage Down. Both Damage Down and Mark of Mortality stack and will give players a 99% damage reduction if they do. If any player gains two or more stacks of Mark of Mortality, they will die.
Phase 1 - Fatebreaker[]
Shortly after being pulled, the boss will cast Cyclonic Break and imbue himself with fire or lightning. Everyone needs to spread to their clock spots to take the initial cone AoEs, then dodge the three more cone cleaves that alternate with each successive cleave. At the same time, players must also partner up in pairs (if fire) or fully spread (if lightning), and get hit by Sinsmoke or Sinsmite, respectively. Once all four cleaves resolve, the boss will cast Powder Mark Trail, a physical tankbuster that inflicts a physical vulnerability up debuff and a 16-second Powder Mark Trail debuff that emits a large, untelegraphed Burn Mark AoE upon expiration. Additionally, the player closest to the tank will also get hit by a Burn Mark AoE. The boss will cast Utopian Sky while also imbuing himself with fire or lightning, then disappear after the cast finishes.
The arena will be covered in fog, and everyone must go to their clock spots except for the northeast ranged and off-tank players, who will swap clock spots for the mechanic. The Powder Mark Trail debuff will expire shortly after the mechanic begins, so both tanks must be close to each other on their clock spots and take the Burn Mark tankbusters. At the same time, untargetable Fatebreaker's Image adds will spawn on the clock spots, and will only be visible to players nearest them. Each clone will either have its weapon raised, performing an untelegraphed Blasting Zone line cleave and killing anyone caught in them, or they won't. There will be three of these, with only two clock spots safe. Determine the safe spots by running to the middle if your clone has its weapon raised, then run to your light party to avoid them. At the same time, players must stack with partners or spread within the safe zone depending on the element used at the beginning of the Utopian Sky cast to get hit by Sinbound Fire III or Sinbound Thunder III; the latter requires a T-shaped spread. After this resolves, the boss will return (though untargetable), and cast another Cyclonic Break, which is resolved as before. While this is happening, another clone will appear north and cast Turn of the Heavens, spawning four Halo of Flame and Halo of Levin untargetable adds. The clone will also imbue itself with fire or lightning, which will determine the safe spots. Another clone will spawn west and imbue itself with lightning, and cast Burnt Strike, a line AoE that expands laterally. Two more clones will spawn and tether to players with fire, giving them 15-second Prey and Fated Burn Mark debuffs. Fire tethers are stacks that must shared between 4 players. If multiple players receive the debuff, the AoEs will wipe the raid. If those players die while the debuffs are active, they will explode and wipe the raid. One last clone will spawn north, imbue itself with fire, and cast another Burnt Strike; this variant will cause a large knockback from the center. Both light parties need to group up with adjustments if needed based on the element of the tether, resolve the Burnt Strikes appropriately, and end up on elemental circles the clone that casted Turn of the Heavens did not imbue itself with. Once this resolves, the Prey markers will expire, immobilizing those two players with Floating Fetters and hitting them with shared damage. The boss will return and will be targetable shortly after.
The boss will cast a Burnished Glory raidwide, inflicting heavy raidwide damage and a 15-second bleed DoT that requires mitigation and healing throughout. The boss will then cast Fall of Faith, imbuing himself with fire or lightning and tethering to a random player. While this is happening, three clones will spawn in sequential order and cast either fire or lightning. To resolve this, the party must be split into two groups of four east and west of boss in melee range, each having two tethered and two non-tethered players. The fire tethers will cause a wide, split damage conal AoE called Sinblaze directed at the player closest to the target, and must be shared between three players to prevent gaining a Mark of Mortality debuff, requiring them to stack behind the targeted player. The lightning tethers will cause three large conal AoEs called Bow Shock to be directed at the three closest players, requiring them to spread instead. Once all four tethers are resolved, the boss will cast another Burnished Glory then a Powder Mark Trail tankbuster. The boss will imbue himself with a random element and cast Burnt Strike, and will also spawn three towers requiring one to four players each, for a total of six. The DPS and healers must be positioned in or towards the towers and adjust accordingly depending on how many players are needed, while the tanks need to do the same for the opposite side to resolve their Burn Mark AoEs. After the mechanic, the boss will cast a Burnished Glory enrage, wiping the raid if he is not killed in time. If he is killed before the towers and debuffs resolve, they will simply be removed.
Phase 2 - Usurper of Frost[]
After the Fatebreaker is defeated, the Usurper of Frost spawns in the arena and will cast a heavy Diamond Dust raidwide shortly after. She will then cast Quadruple Slap, a tankbuster that hits twice and inflicts a cleansable physical vulnerability up in between hits. A coordinated Esuna, healing, and mitigation plan can be done to take it solo, players can tank swap, or use an invulnerability. The boss will cast Mirror Image, spawning her light counterpart and becoming untargetable shortly after.
The boss's ice self will spawn AoEs around the arena, while the light version will appear at the center. Four random players will be targeted with starburst AoEs. The light Shiva will then prepare a cast signifying her next move; this cast does not have a meter and is instead her tell is based on her voiced lines. If she says "Cleave!" then she will perform a variant of Axe Kick, leaving the edges of the arena safe; if she says "Reap!" instead, she will perform a variant Scythe Kick, leaving a small spot under her safe. In addition, Shiva will also have an overhead diamond marker similar to the ones from M4S. If they are pink diamonds touching each other, Shiva will use Close (Axe/Scythe) Kick, hitting the four closest players with proteans. If they are purple diamonds not touching each other, Shiva will use Far (Axe/Scythe) Kick, hitting the four furthest players with proteans.
To resolve, players will need to first line up in a "conga line" formation. The four marked players will take a step forward. The left-most marked player will go to the north spread spot, and the others go to the remaining spread spots going clockwise. A similar process can be applied for the un-marked players. The party will also need to observe where the initial icicle circles spawn. If they spawn on cardinals, then the protean players will need to bait their proteans on cardinals, while the marked players go to intercardinals. If they spawn on intercardinals, the protean players must bait on intercardinals.
For example, suppose Shiva says "Cleave!", has purple diamonds over her head, and and the initial icicle circles are northeast and southwest. This means that the protean players must bait their proteans at the intercardinals and be the furthest from the boss (e.g. at the wall), while the unmarked players must initially be the closest players to the boss, wait until the proteans go off, then drop their AoEs at the wall. In this case, the left-most marked player will need to go north, and the left-most unmarked player must go northeast.
Once the mechanics resolve, players must split into their light parties going north and south and take the Heavenly Strike knockback from the center to avoid the starburst AoEs. The light Shiva will target the healers with Sinbound Holy, requiring the damage to be shared between party members, but will also leave a puddle. Move along the edge of the arena, out of the puddles towards the Shiva outside the arena and mitigate and heal the damage throughout. If the Shiva clone outside the arena is at the north or south, both groups need to rotate clockwise instead. Both Shivas will Redress and swap forms; look away from the clone changing into the light form or it will inflict a stun. The Shiva inside the arena will coat the arena in Thin Ice, which will cause players to slide all the way to the other end of the arena if they try to move. The ice Shiva will then perform one of two casts, also signified by voiced lines: if she says "In stillness freeze!" she will cast Twin Stillness; she will attack with a 270-degree Biting Frost cleave in front of her, then a 90-degree Driving Frost cleave behind her. If she says "Sink into silence!" she will cast Twin Silence, doing the inverse; Driving Frost then Biting Frost. Be ready to slide based on her cast, as some casts will require a second slide.
Intermission - Crystals[]
Begin by assigning melees and tanks to the outer Crystals of Light, which must be destroyed, and the healers and ranged to the inner Crystals of Darkness, which must be kept alive. The light crystals will target the closest players with puddle AoEs, while the dark crystals will target the closest players with cone AoEs. Keep the dark cone AoEs away from the light crystals, or they will be buffed and take reduced damage. While this is happening, the melees and tanks should attack the light crystals, while the healers and ranged should assist them in DPS, respectively. Once all four Crystals of Light are destroyed, attack the Ice Veil in the middle and push it below 50% while keeping the Crystals of Darkness alive; if needed a melee Limit Break 3 can be used. If the Ice Veil is pushed below 50% health, the raid will move on to the third phase.
Phase 3 - Oracle of Darkness[]
Phase 4[]
During this phase, a crystal called the Fragment of Fate will spawn and continually pulse raidwides throughout the fight. The crystal must not be hit by targeted AoEs or it will wipe the raid.
Phase 5 - Pandora[]
If Crystals of Darkness in the intermission and the Fragment of Fate in the fourth phase were kept alive throughout, then the fight will progress to the fifth and final phase. If either of them were destroyed, the Guardian of Eden will spawn as an untargetable add and cast an unavoidable Paradise Lost enrage.

Behind the scenes[]
Etymology[]
Pandora was the first woman created by the gods. According to the myth, Pandora opened a jar, in modern accounts sometimes mistranslated as "Pandora's box", releasing the evils of humanity leaving only Hope inside once she had closed it again. The myth is a kind of theodicy, addressing the question of why there is evil in the world.
In Greek mythology,Shiva (also spelled Śiva) is a Hindu god. The Hindu Shiva once saved the world by consuming poison, giving him blue skin around the area of the neck and throat. Shiva is a male god, but can merge with his consort Parvati to become Ardhanari, an androgynous Hindu god of duality. Shiva is the god of destruction along with Vishnu, who is the god of preservation, and Brahma, the god of creation. Together they are the three principle deities of the Trimurti (Hindu Triad). It is believed he periodically destroys the world, then recreates it.
Shiva has different human forms, males and females. When he was in his avatar form, he spent most of his times in the Himalayan snow mountain. Shiva in the Final Fantasy series is likely inspired by one of his female avatars.
The Japanese pronunciation "Shiba" could refer to the English word "shiver", which in Japanese would sound like "shi-ba" or "shi-va".
