FF Dimensions F-Ability Acquisition

Fusion Ability.

As you equip specific abilities and use them in battle, you may discover new abilities called "Fusion Abilities". (F-Abilities) These F-Abilities represent a combination of two abilities.
Once discovered, an F-Ability can be used at any time via the "F-Ability" command.

Description

Fusion Ability (Fアビリティ, F Abiriti?), identified as F-Ability in the battle menu, is a term from Final Fantasy Dimensions. When a character possesses certain pairs of abilities, they allow for the character to learn a more powerful ability. A character has a chance of learning a fusion ability any time they use either one of the listed abilities while having access to the other via a currently-equipped class feature. Once a character has learned an ability, it will not randomly occur again for that character.

Fusion abilities are officially revealed at Mt. Liene in Chapter 1 after Sarah shares some information with the party about her past, but they can still be learned normally in the Prologue. The entire party learns Magic Missile after the Mt. Liene scene, but all other fusion abilities must be learned separately by individual characters.

Fusion abilities typically require levels in multiple classes. The only exception are Magic Missile, Magic Bomb 1, and Magic Bomb 2, which can be learned by single-class Red Mages due to their ability to access both black and white magic.

Memorists and fusion abilities[]

Memorists are a special case when it comes to fusion abilities. The Memorandom ability is a way of accessing actions that a character has learned from other classes, not an action in itself, so the Memorist class has no fusion abilities on its own list.

Abilities accessed through Memorandom can still trigger the fusion abilities of their respective classes. This requires the character using Memorandom to have access to the second ability through another active class feature, since Memorandom only counts as the ability being activated and not passive possession of any other ability. Thus, only a character with Memorandom equipped to a different class can use it to learn new fusion abilities. Since Memorandom allows access to the maximum level of each type of spell, it can allow a character to learn fusion abilities based on spells they have not earned through a second class.

For example, Dusk has access to level 2 White Magic from the beginning of the game, but through Memorandom, he can access up to level 8. As a Black Mage with Memorandom equipped, he could therefore access the fusion ability Magic Bomb 3 by activating Curaga through Memorandom, since his class grants him passive access to Firaga, but he could not access Magic Bomb 3 while casting Firaga, since Memorandom does not grant him passive access to Curaga.
