Funguar is a Triple Triad card in Final Fantasy VIII used to play the minigame and for turning into items with Quezacotl's Card Mod. Funguar is the second card in the inventory, a basic Level 1 Monster Card the player gets in their starter deck.

Being a Level 1 card, the card values on the Funguar are not strong, its strongest being the 5 a the top. Its value placement may also be useful for games that use Same and/or Plus.

Obtain[]

At the very start of the game, the man in front of the elevator on the 2F of Balamb Garden will give Squall a set of five starter Triple Triad cards when spoken to. Funguar is part of the starter deck.

The Funguar monster has a 3.5% chance to drop the card. Using the Card command on a Funguar has a 93.7% chance to procure a Funguar card when it succeeds.

Any AI Triple Triad player who uses Level 1 cards has a chance of using Funguar in a play, from where the player can win it in a card match.

The path to the Timber TV Station is blocked by a drifter in the pub as part of the story. The drifter will move after the player talks to him and gives him the Buel card obtained after the fixed battle outside the pub. If the player talks to drifter without any Buel cards in the inventory, he will still move and give the party a Funguar card.

Card Mod[]

The Funguar card refines into an M-Stone Piece with Quezacotl's Card Mod ability. It is a useful common item that has various purposes, used for modeling weapons and further refines into Tier 1 elemental magic, as well as Slow, Silence, and Esuna.
