Freeze is a status in Final Fantasy IX. Target becomes unable to act and is instantly defeated by the next physical-type attack, unless thawed in time. If the player tries to escape, the frozen party member still assumes the run pose, but fails to leave the battle with others Frozen escape from FFX Remastered. Frozen targets stand still with a blue hue and slightly sparkle. Some frozen enemies still blink, like Gimme Cat.

Mechanics[]

Auto-Regen still ticks when the character is frozen. When frozen, one cannot act and is KO'd by next physical attack.

First, a time limit is established by multiplying the afflicted's Spirit by the base limit of the status.

Duration: (60 - Spirit) * 160

The time limit will decrease by a rate of deduction dictated by the target's current status (Haste, Slow, or none). When the time limit expires, the status is removed. Rates of deduction are dictated by the Battle Speed setting chosen in the Config menu.

Use[]

Freeze is like Stop, but instead of defeating the afflicted outright, it stops the frozen from acting and makes them vulnerable to being defeating in one hit. It works on most normal enemies, but will not work on bosses. It is thus best used via Add Status with the two weapons that have it as an effect, even if the infliction-chance is low. Quina's Frost, meanwhile, will do no damage if it misses, and also has a low chance of working.

Few enemies may freeze the player, but if this happens they are best healed of it quickly or the enemies defeated before they have a chance of shattering the frozen party member. The player is best mastering Body Temp and equipping it against enemies who may freeze the player.
