The Foundation Day was a seasonal event in Final Fantasy XIV version 1.0. It celebrated the anniversary of the game's release and the founding of the Grand Companies in-game. In the game's relaunch as A Realm Reborn, the event was replaced by the Rising.

Ever since the reinstitution of the Grand Companies of Eorzea, an air of tension has enveloped the three city-states, the ensigns of each organization hanging overhead a constant reminder of looming disaster. Lately, however, a peculiar sight has been observed in Ul'dah that appears to buck the trend: soldiers are taking to the streets in celebration—aye, celebration—going as far as to discharge muskets and cannons as part of their boisterous merrymaking. What could have possibly occasioned this sudden outburst of high spirits? Mayhap the sultanate's leading paper, The Mythril Eye, can shed some light upon this intriguing turn of events...

Many may recall the Foundation Day celebrations a year ago which commemorated the revival of the Grand Companies of Eorzea. Though the current state of our nations is far from stable, the long-anticipated anniversary has arrived, and The Mythril Eye has prepared its latest musings on the merrymaking.
