The use of the forums beckons me yet again! Despite the saying "If It's Not Broken, Don't Fix It", I have something to say to the Wiki Community about your game articles. While Wikipedia hogs all the attention, information and coverage and even have them standardized with similar formatting and styles, I'm not sure I can see yours. Like, do you have a standard for them? I can see Jobs pages have their "Intro, Appearances, Non-FF Appearances and Gallery" and other pages with "Appearances" all over. So far what I can understand is that in Game Articles, the sections like:
| |||
And your point is? What are you advocating here? There's a lot of supporting evidence, but no conclusion.
You are correct, there is no universal look for the games article, and it has been discussed on the IRC. Our best bet would be to choose one of the game articles and use it as our general basis.
Edit conflictx2, but I kinda saw it coming The main problem here is that most of the de-wikify tags were removed long before many of us started editing, whether it was true that the dewikifying had been accomplished or not. I see your point, and it is something I have thought as well: it is ironic how some of the least covered or maintained articles on the Wiki are precisely the game articles. I say we take the best elements of each game article (like a gallery of its main characters, cover art, music and allusions, basically what Wikipedia frowns upon) make them the standard. Of course, we would need a list, a propposed order. Here's mine:
| |||
We'd need Gameplay in the list as well. These are games. And what's the most important part of games? If you can play the damn thing or not.
If we need to choose one game article as a basis, then we need to review them one by one, so let's see each based on their Table of Contents. I'll Italicize the "uniqueness" of each page.
So as you can see, there is no one game article that we can choose to be the general basis. But here are my observations and some proposals:
| |||
Sequels. FFX-2, Compliation of FFVII, Revenant Wings, that FFV OVA thingey. We need those too.
Good fellows! The discussion continues still >;3 Taking from Faethin's clever ideas, I say the best layout for our beloved game articles should be as follows:
| |||
Okay. Let's begin with the original FF's page. Let's do this.
8bit BlackMage - Beyond the Sky TALK - Why do chemists call helium, curium, and barium 'the medical elements'? Because, if you can't 'helium' or 'curium', you... um... ._.; - {{{time}}}
I tried to re-organize II's page. The Trivia and Music parts are lacking (seriously, was there ANY good music in that game?) and the introduction... well, meh.
Although many of the character pages have layout styles unto themselves for each game (VII's are different from VI's, etc), the games should follow the same pattern and do not. We should restructure them in a uniform style, and Faethin/AJ have suggested the most comprehensive form of doing so. I'll begin restructuring VI shortly.

I can't believe I've never come across this thread before.... So there was a discussion about our game articles? Good to see there are people who are concerned on them. This could be included as part of the manual of style.
