FFVI tells a better story and brags a much more diverse and interesting character roster when compared to FFV. I'd say that you go for FFVI but if you find the job system in FFV interesting, then give it a try. It's one of the few good things in the game anyway. FFVI brags a grand cast full of boring characters. The storyline feels like it has a greater depth but I feel the game finds it difficult to let the player care for the characters. Many of the characters are also superfluous and by the end of the game you'll find yourself only wanting to use about five of the ''very many''.<!--VI isn't that bad but it has a large cast of characters I don't care about-->

FFV has a fantastic job system and works well. The game has fewer characters and you feel much more connected to them. None of the characters are useless like in VI and you are likely to use every member quite frequently. Story is fairly easy to follow.
