Okay, I don't really know if this should be at The Waystone, but anyway I'll put it here. It's just like what the title says, including how did you get it, like for your birthday, or a friend lent it to you, and when? For me, my very first FF was FF VIII, and my dad got it for my siblings when I was only three or four. Eventually they gave up playing it and left it to me, and I completed it last year.

I'm probably an oddball here, because my very first FF was Final Fantasy Tactics Advance. My friend let me borrow it when I was still living in Hawaii, and I got hooked on the Job aspect of it. Mind you, the plotline and characters were horrific, but I didn't have any other FF to compare it to at the time. Eventually I ended up buying the game from my friend for 10 bucks. After completing the game, I purchased FFVI, and that's when I learned what the "real" Final Fantasy was all about.
Final Fantasy III (DS). I remember my elder brothers playing the series when I was younger. I had only two games on my DS and we were going on a long vacation, so I bought it. It's my favorite (Final Fanatsy) game.

WTF? FFIII came out less than two years ago! Maybe I'm not the most inexerienced person when it comes to number of FFs played on this wikia.
I began with FFVI back when it was still called FFIII. I still don't know which one I love the most, VI or IX. Talk about coincidences: I'm right now listening to a Jimi Hendrix song. What's the title: If 6 were 9.
I've played I, II, (DoS version) III, V, VI, XIIRW, Crystal Chronicles and Tactics Advance. I think thats all of them.
very first ive played is FFX. Then I played 9 and 8 at relatively the same time. Crystal Chronicles came shortly after. My uncle refound the CD for his FFVII computer game so I played that. A while later, my cousin plays DoS but I don't. Few years later, I play 3 for DS. Then 12. After that, I just played a hell of a lot of spin-offs like chocobo tales and such. And a year ago, I emulated 4-6 and played them. So yeah, I've been witness to pretty much all the FF main series (11 doesn't count) The ones that I personally beat *Final Fantasy III DS *Final Fantasy IV (emulated) *Final Fantasy V (in the process of beating but not really into it) *Final Fantasy VI (almost done) *Final Fantasy VII *Final Fantasy VIII *Final Fantasy IX *Final Fantasy X *Final Fantasy XII *Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles *Final Fantasy Chocobo Tales *Final Fantasy Tactics Advanced (almost beat but emulation was on my other computer)*Final Fantasy....I think there was more, can't remember

Technically Final Fantasy was my first exposure to Final Fantasy. The first one that I really could "get into" was Final Fantasy VII, though. As I have said before, the best $127 game I ever purchased.
FFIX. I remember because my mother would come in to my room in the middle of the night and complain because I had school the next day. Didn't get much sleep that week and a half.
FFVII eleven or so years ago when it first came out, or right around then. I don't even remember how or why I got it (perhaps it was a gift from God). My life was changed completely, well at least until Ocarina of Time.

The Final Fantasy series is a gift from the Lord to the human race. Some people, however, are sadly too shallow, blind and stupid to see this. E.g: One of my schoolmates. When she heard me say that I'm a user here, she actually said: "Ew, who plays Final Fantasy?" Um, ME and a LOT of other people, you bitch.
Hey, you're not alone 8 bit BM! FFTA was the first Final Fantasy I played. I got it for christmas probably about 4 or five years ago though. My first in the main series was FFVII.
my first FF was X a year ago or so, I'm inside Sin right now but I'm too lazy to finish it. After that I played IV (final dungeon, again too lazy to finish it), FFVI (just got the blackjack for the first time), FFV (the library of ancients or something like that...) and FFXII (dreadnaught leviathan but I got stucked so I started again, Lv. 18 at the garamsythe waterway ^^).
IV, but I was a kid and could not appreciate its true glory. Then I got older, replayed it and VI, and saw them for the gems they truly were.

Hate to say it, but FFVII, my bro got it for a good report card. Of course, I liked it back then since IX and XII didn't exist and I couldn't access IV or V.
FFVII about 7 years ago. Sadly one of the discs broke. I think it was the 2nd...or was it the 1st....hmmmm IDk but it stopped me from continuing on with the game.
My first FF was FFVII and FFX shortly thereafter. Then I discovered FFVI when it was III on an emulator. Those three really sold it for me within that year. Because of that VII will always evoke emotion in me when I hear its music. Does anyone else get that? You hear a song from a classic FF and it takes you back to the first time you played it and the wonder you felt?

VII, until I returned it because I couldn't get past the scorpion because I couldn't read yet. Then IX. I also agree with 8bit 100%

I LOVE IX's battle theme! It's so catchy, and Vivi's theme is too. Bum bum bum bum bum bum bum bum...now it's in my head too. Then again, what's not to love about Vivi?
@pheonixdew: Aerith's theme, Zanarkand, Cid's theme (FFVII), Yuna's theme, the aria of VI, and the music that plays with the basch and gabranth scene near the end of XII. These songs also seem to remind you what Final Fantasy is really about. People sit here and argue over certain aspects of each game, and complain about whiney characters, and after reading a conversation on this wiki I usually coming out hating some aspect of a certain FF, or am angry at CSM's opinion (sorry CSM, I think our opnions are exactly the opposite on just about everything.) But, as phoenix said, the music reminds me how amazing all (most) of the games really are because the music reminds you of some of the truly memorable scenes throughout the series =). Well, it probably doesn't get much mushier than that but oh well, long story short, I totally agree with phoenix.

Mine was IX. I got as far as the portal over the lifa tree. My discs are now scratched and such. Real bad luck: the only one that seems alright is disc 2, I have no saves there. I later got VI, could play that now if I could find it. Then (I think my mum gave it to me) I started playing X. I once got past bevelle and a bit further, then accidently saved over it. I'm now at the moonflow I think. Last christmas, I got XII, tried it and couldn't get past the mimics in the tunnels, then retried recently with some pre-leveling and found they are weak to ice and used that. Now, after a single "wah-I-lost-my-game-forever" I have reached Raithwalls tomb, I got past "Oh-my-god,-they-killed-the-Gran-Kiltias" before screwing up.

It is nice to stop and remember why we love Final Fantasy, and like Boo said, to not get carried away with the arguments over which is best. The songs that really get me are: any prelude or prologue version, Terra's Theme/worldmap theme in VI, the Aria also, pretty much all of VII and X, and a Melodies of Life. FF8 has some good stuff too, I really like the Balamb Garden theme. Its interesting that the music that is really nostalgic is all from my earlier games, perhaps as I have gotten older they don't have the same impact? It is a sad thought to think I could ever grow out of enjoying final fantasy...
I enjoy the song Final Fantasy, the REAL FF theme. But the prologue is what most people remember. The song that defines X for me is Suteki Da Ne.. I can't even remember most of the other ones.
Well, Final Fantasy got me at FFX at the same time as Kingdom Hearts while I was playing it in one of my cousin's house in Mattapan. The only actual Final Fantasy game I have is Dawn of Souls. The others I beat, like FFTA, and ones that I have, like FFIX, are just ROMs.

I was exposed to FF back when the PS ones (VII, VIII, and IX) were coming out (in Elementary school around 3rd and 4th grade) and I didn't play them. No, my friend had all the strategy guides for them and I studied those sons of bitches like I had an exam on them the very next day. That and he had a Chrono Cross guide and I though that was way cooler at the time so I knew more about that then FF. Funny story, when I heard that there was a prequel called Chrono Trigger and that the hero wasn't Serge but Chrono and it was only in 2D, i was disgusted (God how wrong I was there. lol) My first ACTUAL FF game was (like 8-bit) FFTactics Advance in 7th grade. Two years after that, I got FFI&II for GBA and then eventually IV for GBA, then FFXII for PS2, borrowed FFX from a friend, bought FFVIII at a garage sale, and bought FFV & VI for GBA by selling some crappy used games and using some old B-day money. And now, I just borrowed FFVII but I lost my PS2 and my PS1 broke :(

My first Final Fantasy was Final Fantasy IV, back when it was II. I played it in '94 or '95 when I was around three, and needed help reading the text. I played it when my dad's friend moved in and he brought that and his SNES. I eventually got fed up not being able to play when someone wasn't there to read the text to me so I just skipped all the story. Somehow I actually got to the last dungeon, but bever beat it. I finished it for the first time two years ago. I have been playing all the current releases since VII, though, with the exception of Final Fantasy XI and a few of the worst spinoffs. The best song in all Final Fantasy is played at the start of almost all of the first seven games og the series, Prelude. That song sounds like memory, that's the best way I can describe it. In fact, every time I hear that song I remember something that I had forgotten, and not things just about Final Fantasy.

As for me, I have to say my first FF game I've owned was FFX shortly after it became a Red Label title as I just had an original PS2 for a short time and heard of it through a friend. I was breathtaken by how it looked considering the power of the PS2. Then I bought FFVII and then FFX-2 followed by FFI-VI in that order for PSP/GBA/DS before I got FFXII, FFVIII, and FFIX. All I'm missing are the FF Tactics series and FFXI with the Chocobo series notwithstanding. CSM, I'm probably one of the few from the 90s that got a Sega Genesis rather than an SNES and missed out on FFIV, FFVI and Chrono Trigger, so should I get Chrono Trigger for my DS when it arrives in the USA?

My little brother borrowed some PS1 games from my cousin, and I wanted to see what Final Fantasy was like. So I asked my older cousin about it, and he let me borrow VII. I wasn't too interested, but my cousin let me borrow his personal favorite, IX. I fell in love with it, but I was 6 at the time, and my mom didn't want me playing it. Three days before I turned 13, on Christmas Eve, my cousin gave me VII, VIII, and IX. On Christmas day, I got the GBA and DS remakes of I-VI from my parents and grandparents, and on my birthday, I got X, X-2, and XII from my friends and boyfriend. Of course, I was supposed to share them with my brother, but he’s not really interested. So, I guess my first game was VII, but I like to say that IX was my first.
Gah, I know that I shouldn't read these threads 'cause it will only make me feel old. My first FF was the original on the NES. I didn't play it much myself, that honor went to my mom who would play and I would be her assistant, though I did play some portions myself. First FF I played completely on my own was FFIV back when it was FFIIUS. I had the FF's for the Gameboy that weren't really FF's but part of the Mana and Saga series, and Mystic Quest (I was in elementary school and knew that it wasn't as good, but I was happy 'cause it was FF). Man, I got online only a little while after FFVII came out and I remember all of the old fansites and everything and this is just making me get all nostalgic... Anyway, I've played to some extent every FF other than FFXI and FFTA2 (since I have to be cheap right now) and of course BC since it's not available here. (I do have Japanese Crisis Core and FFIV though and am planning to import Dissida)

I think I wanted to snap the disc in half it was so annoying. I really hated the gameplay. I died SOOOOOOOO many times it ws annoying... I thankfully have to say the next one I played was Final Fantasy X. Much MUCH better. XD EmptySky 01:55, 3 December 2008 (UTC)

My first Final Fantasy experiences were demos of VII and VIII. I thought they were cool, if I stopped losing. I didn't play another FF until X in '06, nearly seven years later. To be honest, it was Kingdom Hearts that reintroduced Final Fantasy to me.

My first Final Fantasy was Final Fantasy X. How I became interested in playing it is actually a funny story, when my friend and I were creating a story, I had to think of a female character. I saw Yuna on the cover of my most recent GameInformer and I thought she was pretty, so I used her as the base for my character. Eventually, we rented a PS2 & FFX (along with Kingdom Hearts) and I loved it. This led me to buy a PS2, Kingdom Hearts, Final Fantasy X, and Final Fantasy X-2 all at the same time. After that I bought FF7, FF8, & FF9. Sadly, I've never (legally) owned my favorite FF Series game, Final Fantasy VI.
My very first Final Fantasy will be... Dissidia.
The first FF I ever played was VII...I think it was back in 1998, when I was still in elementary school. My friends basically made me play that, VIII, and IX. :P
Final Fantasy X was the first game that I played in the series. I started playing X in '04, I think. My brother got me into FF.
If I remembered, my first FF is FF DoS. I played it at cousin's house. The first FF that I really got into is FFTA. Might just be because of Montblanc. X)

I'll tie or beat Raven. My first game was X-2. I thought the cover was cute, so I spent most of the money I got for my thirteenth birthday for it. That copy was actually broken at some point, but I liked the game so much that I got another new copy of it. I then got X because I wanted to know the back story. From there, I got the earlier games. To date, X-2 and XII are the only games I've gotten right after their releases.
OK, my first game isn't FFI DoS. But I think it's Final Fantasy V Advance.
MMLN 09:42, 29 May 2009 (UTC) Like many of the FF fans, I became one after playing FFVII as my first game ever from FF franchise, it's unbelievable that it is already more than 10 years... Around spring 1998 on PlayStation at one of the city gaming caffes... The biggest surprise for me was when I finnished playing through DISC 1 and i was thinking wow best game ever... Then the game asked for DISC 2 and I was like WTF??? I have never played such long game before :P Few months ago I purchased my own copy for PC, and later I purchased FFVIII on PC aswell... After that I made a break, because I became die hard PC fanboy and I was pissed off that FFIX was not released on PC aswell... Then finaly in 2007 I finaly dropped my PC fanboyism and decided to buy PlayStation 2 and all the FF games ever released (Still working on it :P). If you want, you can check all the stuff I own in my profile :)
My first was FFIV, when I was six years old. Then, I got, in this order, VI, VII, VIII, Tactics, IX, X, Tactics Advance, X-2, I and II, V, III, XII, Tactics A2, and XII Revenant Wings.
My first was DoS on a emulator, I didn't think much of it at first (this was a couple of years ago) but I came back earlier this year a cleared it :) Im now working on FF12 haha
Broeman 10:41, 8 June 2009 (UTC) My first was FFIV. I got the advance version at a Wal-Mart on an impulse.
My first was Final Fantasy VII. I was, of coarse, instantly hooked from then on... Jamiemitsu 20:03, 13 June 2009 (UTC)
Mmm... FFX-2. I remember when I first played it. I got it about two years ago for a Christmas present. Before that I had played Kingdom Hearts-series. FFX I got year-and-a-half later for comfortation present when I broke my left arm.
My first final fantasy game that I played was a copy of Final Fantasy Tactics that I found in a storge locker that my dad had cleaned out, this event had happen when I was around 8 or 9 years old (right around when FF8 was about to come out and when I was able to find a new copy of FF7 for 25$ at a fleamarket ). At that time I wasn't able to understand that much of the story nor the battle and tactical aspects of the game.
Ooooooh boy. Final Fantasy VII was my first Final Fantasy. Now I know what you're thinking, but I still like Megaman and Action Adventure games.Mask no Oni 20:56, 6 August 2009 (UTC)
My first Final Fantasy was FF7, about month after it's European release in 1997, but according to my cousin (I don't remember this), my VERY first FF, was in fact fan-translated FF2 some time between 1994 and 1995, when I was five. Well... It may be true, because a couple of years ago, when I've played ff2 on emulator, the music seemed strangely familiar to me...
Well FFX was my first and thanks to that the linear nature of it and lack of a world map didnt bother me a bit. Absolutely class, pity about the sequel...
Zackfair5555 01:10, 26 August 2009 (UTC) My first Final Fantasy game was X
Michelrpg Final Fantasy VII, or so I thought for many years. Then I realised, my "Mystic Quest" game was actually "Final Fantasy: Mystic Quest", which means THAT was my first FF game ever. And to this day I still heart it. I couldnt give a rat's ass about the bad plot, the final boss, or the simple graphics. That was my first "real" rpg and FF game, and to this very day I still love it. Tristam for the win!
My first Final fantasy was Final Fantasy XII.Aminosa 05:59, September 13, 2009 (UTC)
My first was VIII whcich is still my favourite of them all to this day, then I played ix, anthology, origins,x and x-2and finally xii. As for music the victory theme. Mizu.
mine was ff tactics wotl i got it with my b-day money on my 14th b-day for my psp
My first was Final Fantasy VIII, which a friend originally lent to me. It was insanely difficult during my first playthrough, but after I actually figured out how the stat-system worked, I loved it.

First one for me was FFIV Advance, then I believe I picked up V advance, then XII, then III DS, then IX and X at around the same time. After that, I played FFI and FFVI, then Tactics: WotL, and am currently playing FFVII for the first time. Broeman 23:29, October 14, 2009 (UTC)

While the first Final Fantasy game that I played was Tactics, my introduction to the series was a few years prior when I watched a friend play IX. The part I watched was between Dali and Gizamaluke's Grotto. The scene aboard the cargo ship includes some of the best FMVs in the game. In fact, I'm gonna go play IX again right now.
Mine was the first Final Fantasy. It was the fourth game I ever played, with Mario, Zelda, and Faxanadu preceding it. I miss my nintendo :(

The first FF game I got was X, but the first one I beat was VII. But I owe more to Kingdom Hearts for introducing me to Final Fantasy, because before KH came out I had never really heard of Final Fantasy
The first Final Fantasy that I played and completed was FFIX. The second Final Fantasy that I played (but haven't completed) was FFVII since I had borrowed a copy from a friend. I've also played a demo of FFVIII which I thought had a very unique and interesting battle system. Since then I bought the first two Final Fantasies for the GBA and have played them as well. Then I also got and played Crystal Chronicles which reminded me alot of the original Final Fantasy since the Crystals had such a big presence. My goal now is to finish FFVII as I still have the save file on my old PSone memory card and then get FFVIII as well. Good times.
Final Fantasy VII when I was five years old and then I played Tactics and then Legends 3 and then Energiez or whatever then 8 and then 9 and then everything after that is a complete mess.--BigCubby 18:11, November 18, 2009 (UTC)
I think my first one was either Tactics Advance or VI. It was probably FF6 though. Played it through SNES emulation. I remember getting stuck on Figaro Castle. After finally completing that section, I got annihilated by the magitek soldiers. After that, I didn't play FF6 again til I got the Advance release for my birthday.

My older brother got Final Fantasy VIII and I watched him play it. However, since he was (and in some ways, still is) like Squall, I never got the chance to play it until recently. I always used to go to a friends house and play Final Fantasy X, as that became my first Final Fantasy that I actually played.

well my first contact with a FF game was the awesomeness that 'is' kingdom hearts, but after playing that i became curious about the FF serious and brought FFX. At the time i thought it was one of the best game ever. since then i've played all of them except: I,III,and the second disc of VIII.
My first Final Fantasy was Final Fantasy IV, the one on PSX paired with Chrono Trigger. At first, I was determined to play it to the end to see if it got better, because I hated it but my friends said it was awesome. I couldn't get past Barbaricca, cuz the game sucked so badly, so I went to Chrono Trigger. Best.Game.Ever. EVAR!! Anyway, I bought VII and VIII at the same time a while later, and liked VIII better, but I finished both. Then, I went on to X and XII. Played XII at a friends house and hated it (DIE, VAAN!), liked X. I couldn't play XI because I couldn't pay monthly. Oh well, at least VIII was good!

My first FF game was IV DS, then III DS (Don't know why I went backwards), then XII. X and VII followed, before my most recent ones, I and V. I have most of the spinoffs (Including FF XII:RW). The Wild Rose 17:19, January 8, 2010 (UTC)
