Revision as of 00:31, 13 September 2011
Please start sending your commands to the e-mail account MaenadMafiaVII@gmail.com, or give it to DoorToNothing or Tabzee on the IRC. Please mark the Notifications Table after you have sent your message!
Mafia VII will be moderated by both DoorToNothing and "Tabbeh", two active users hoping to moderate a quickly moving and constantly active game of Mafia. The roleplay is based on Final Fantasy IV, during a post-The After Years meeting with all the surviving characters that goes horribly awry when a few Maenads appear....
Game-specific Rules
- Just as in Mafia V and Mafia VI, this game shall be moderated by two users familiar with the rules, mechanics, and policies involved in Mafia. Both will have equal responsibilities outside of roleplay, so feel free to contact either of them if you have a question or concern.
- The roleplay in Mafia VII is going to be very strong and present; Final Fantasy IV. Specifically, the theme is a gathering of all the remaining cast from after the events of The After Years, when suddenly a few runaway/left behind/rebellious Maenads appear to seize Baron... or wherever the main setting is.
- Do to the constant activity and online presence of the two moderators, is has been decided that a large number of players is going to be asked for in this game. As of yet, the game plans call for 4 Mafia, 1 Cop, 1 Doctors, and 2 Innocent Lovers. Because of this great number of "special roles," we are asking for 18-20 players.
- A new format is being used for Mafia VII, in which encryption has been totally discarded and the Communication Table have a new but similar purpose. Instead of the difficulty and extra few weeks it took in Mafia V to distribute codes and settle encryption, an e-mail-based system shall be used. When signing up for the game, each player will provide their e-mail, which will then receive a confirmation e-mail from an address set up specifically for Mafia VII. Commands are then sent to the e-mail used for the game, promoting faster and less confusing gameplay that totally prevents meta-gaming 100%.
- Basic rules can be found in the previous rounds of Mafia, such as the functions of Day and Night and when to send messages.
- A story element that began in Mafia VI is the inclusion of bonus journal entries written by the players, if they so desire, written from the viewpoint of their character. Obviously, the attitude and contents of the logs are dependent on the identity and role of the character, so the logs for a player are released after they are killed by the Mafia, lynched, or die due to a broken heart (see Innocent Lovers).
- Until the game starts, users are free to continue signing up. We are attempting to make this game as big as possible with FULLY ACTIVE USERS. The game shall not begin until a full roster of committed users is completed.
Communications
Night Time Discussion
During Night phases, each player will send a message to the game's master e-mail, clearly detailing what their command is. As stated before, encryption and decryption is not going to be utilized in Mafia VII, so simply state your command's target very bluntly and clearly. Depending on the role of the user, a different message will be sent.
Townsperson
A majority of the players are just regular townspeople. In the game-world, the townspeople are supposed to be asleep. Thus, their message does not have to be anything important. You do, however, still need to send messages to the e-mail, so that nobody can tell that you are or are not Mafia based on the Communications Table. You can post random gibberish even, as long as you do send a message.
Doctor
The Doctor is a special persona allied with the townspeople. The player chosen to be the Doctor by the randomizer is able to protect a single player each round during Night phases from being eliminated by the Mafia. The Doctor's abilities have been freed from previous rounds, so as to enhance any roleplaying you wish to do and to give the player more freedom. The Doctor can now save the same person as many times as they wish consecutively, but still cannot save themselves more than once per game. The e-mail the Doctor sends each Night phase should clearly illustrate which player they wish to save; please give the user's name and roleplay persona.
Innocent Lovers
The Innocent Lovers are a special dipersona allied with the townspeople that makes its debut in Mafia VII. Unlike others special personas, the Innocent Lovers have a curse rather than an aid of some sort. Also, there are two Innocent Lovers, and each will know who the other "Lover" is. Every night, the Mafia will kill one player in the game. If that player is one of the Innocent Lovers, the other Innocent Lover will also die of a "broken heart." The messages sent by the Innocent Lovers are the same as those sent by the townspeople; a random message that means nothing will suffice.
Cop
The Cop is a special persona allied with the townspeople. Every night, the Cop chooses to investigate any player about their identity as the Mafia or a non-Mafia. To do this, the Cop will send an e-mail telling which player they wish to discover more about. One of the moderators will then send an e-mail back to the Cop that states whether the selected user is or is not Mafia. To clarify, the Cop does have the power to reveal himself if he chooses to, which can help his case to identify a user as Mafia in debate. However, this is a common tactic in many Mafia games off-FFWiki, and likely will lead to the Cop's death in the following round.
Mafia
The Mafia are a special tetrapersona working against the townspeople. The Mafia are the main antagonists and namesake of the "Mafia" game. Each Night phase, the Mafia will decide upon one player in the game to kill. To do so, each Mafia will send an e-mail detailing who they want to kill, with a preference order (1, 2, 3) on whom to kill. After each e-mail from the four Mafia is received, the numbers are tallied up - three points for each first priority, two for second, and one for third. The player with the highest preference will then be eliminated from the game (unless he was protected by a Doctor, of course). The Mafia will all receive an e-mail detailing how many points each of the nominated users received in the Night phase at the end of the Night phase, as well as which player will be eliminated.
Day Time Discussion
During Day phases, all players are required to discuss about who is the most likely to be Mafia by sending at least one message containing your vote. You are free to discuss as long as you see necessary, however, the discussion will be ended as soon one of two things happen: 1) all players cast their votes; 2) a majority is reached on a player, in which case the phase will immediately end and all voting will cease. You can also speak out suspicions, however, you should be aware that randomly dishing out suspicions might have you end up being the one people will vote to lynch.
Your Lynch vote represents which player you want to eliminate from this round, in order to work toward eliminating who you believe to be the Mafia. You can only give one vote for Lynching per Day phase, and it should be said in a talk template message in the internal discussion of the game.
Your Suspicion vote represents who you find suspicious, and that may not be who you are voting to Lynch! In the event that the Lynch voting results have a tie for the player to be eliminated, Suspicion shall be used to decide upon who is to be eliminated. You can only give one vote for Suspicion each Day phase, and it can go to a player that you did not vote to be Lynched, as well as to your candidate for Lynching.
In order to give your suspicion and/or lynch votes, add a ---- to your talkbubble entry, and add something like, for example, Suspicion: Flying Spaghetti Monster +1 or Lynch: Malik Blishtar +1. An example with such a post:
DoorToNothing - I see... a cycle of wrath... A dim light... guided by destiny.... TALK - That about which our entire future revoles. | |||
While Room Core is suspicious, Desperado Chaos is most definately a Mafia member, as do I prophesy. Suspicion: Room Core +1, ; Lynch: Desperado Chaos +1 | |||
The use of nicknames is not allowed in Mafia VII. Please use the subject's username or roleplay character.
Notifications Table
The current phase is DAY 0 / NIGHT I.

---|---|---|---|
In Mafia VII, all former methods of encryption, decryption, and code-posting have been pleasantly abandoned. Instead, messages to control your actions shall be sent and received by e-mail. By using e-mail, users no longer have to post messages in codes or encrypted form, and also totally prevents any form of meta-gaming. To prevent the moderators from doing anything that was not said or messaged to them, or "cheating the game," all of the players that send special commands will, in most cases, be able to tell if their command was followed into the game or not – for example, which player is killed by the Mafia, which character ends up saved by a Doctor, and who the Cop finds out (sent by e-mail).
The Communication Table, however, still stays as a vital part of confirmation. Instead of posting encrypted messages into the table, it is now for notifications. Primarily, these will be "Time to send you e-mail message!" from the mods, followed by "E-mail sent" from the players, to show that their message has been sent, and finally "Message received" from the mods, to confirm the message. Since these situations are sequential, there's no need for a separate inbox and outbox. Alternatively, messages can be sent by IRC to DoorToNothing (Doorsey, DTN, DTNothing) as well as "Tabbeh". The two moderators are listed at the top of the table, and all remaining players are shown below. The moderator e-mail address is MaenadMafiaVII@gmail.com | |||

Actually, you're the only one left who has to send in their message ChroniKai, unless you did before posting. Once that's out of the way, the game can start. I'll be watching from the sidelines, and I can be a sub if you (DTN & Tabbeh) need one. | |||

Assuming the table is up to date, and taking it at face value, the ones holding us up are BW and Hamfruitcake. They are the ones who have been sent their roles and apparently not responded. In fact, the table implies that ChronoKai hasn't even been sent their role yet, which might even be the mods' fault : / Category: Analysis of the delay | |||
Glad this didn't start without me. When it does I should be around to play. | |||
When Will it start?? We all have our roles right? I mean i finally got it! category: WHEN WILL THE GAME BEGIN!! D:< | |||

Well, as I pointed out, we're apparently still waiting on Biggs&Wedge and Hamfruitcake. The latter hasn't been seen for about a month, and the former is similarly absent and could be so for a while (apparently, he's planning to join the Marines). I know DTN and Tabbeh wanted this game to be bigger than usual, and it's already smaller than they intended... but at this rate, if we don't drop some players, the game won't start at all. Category: Problems | |||
Well, count me out. I'm sorry to say this, guys, and I'll miss you, but I don't have all the time in the world like I used to and I really don't want to hold you back from the game like BW and Hammeh have. So... I resign/quit? AJ can take my place, I guess. | |||
great now we lost a valuable player from what i know | |||
Fluffy moogle - "I swore I wouldn't run away anymore! I'd rather fight and lose than give up without even trying!" TALK - I know this isn't time, shoot me! | |||
I mean seriously, This thing started in June. It's September. If this thing doesn't start soon, I may have to quit too. I mean I have big exams soon. Hopefully I won't have to though. | |||

Fluffy call me pie but my brain says that means its been four months since this thing started! a few more and i'll have to actually think it out! | |||
DoorToNothing - You do not yet know... what lies beyond the door. TALK - Remember, you are the one who will open the door to the light. | |||
The game is literally about to begin. We had to change one or two roles due to the dropped players, so those changes had to be made accordingly. The game is still well size and we should be starting any day now. Please be ready when we do start! Also, CHRONOKAI: You need to mark "Role Received" in the table. We are still waiting on you! | |||
Game Start

The game has officially begun! Please start sending your commands to Tabzee and I over the IRC, or to the e-mail address at the top of the page. Also, please prepare a talk template for your character, as usual. A couple of notes on how the game has already begun, before even the Day I phase:

Fluffy moogle - "I swore I wouldn't run away anymore! I'd rather fight and lose than give up without even trying!" TALK - I know this isn't time, shoot me! | |||
Hold on, I'm confused. So do we just do the introduction thing? Or do we do suspicion and lynch votes? | |||
DoorToNothing - You do not yet know... what lies beyond the door. TALK - Remember, you are the one who will open the door to the light. | |||
Day 0 is a simple pre-phrase, which includes no lynching or suspicion. It's just an introduction to the characters in RP for the fun of the players. It also adds another journal entry and a bit more to the story. WHERE DOIN DAY 0WHERE MAKIN DAY 0 HAPEN</SBaHJ> | |||
