Mafia V will be moderated by both A.J. two and Ultima The High Seraph, a first for the FF Wiki games.

Game-specific Rules[edit source]

  • This is the first game to be moderated by two users. As such, both users will take care of specific things, such as allocation of Night and Day posts and management between both.
  • Taking back to the simple roots of the first game, Mafia V will be without a roleplay theme. This is because half of the users are new to the system, and it wouldn't be fair to give them smoething as complicated as a roleplay theme.
  • The roleplay in Mafia V will be based on the original Final Fantasy, where each player assumes the role of an NCP from the game. The roleplay will not be as restrictive as other games have been, due to the amount of new players.
  • At present, 16 players are in the game. Four will be Mafia, 1 will be a cop, 1 will be a doctor, 1 will be a vigilante, while the rest are townspeople.
  • Format will be almost entirely identical to Game 2, Game 3, and Game 4.
  • In Essence, we will be playing with the rules from Game 2, which can be found here. This includes the use of an encrypted messaging system for nighttime messages. Further information about these will always be provided during the night phase on this page.
  • Until the game starts, users are free to continue signing up. as we are attempting to make this game as big as possible. However, users who sign up after the starting date must wait for the next game.
  • Lynch Immunity from the first game will be returning to the Day round. If all players cast their votes, but no majority has been reached, the players with the least ammount of suspicion will be immune to being lynched for that round. If they were being voted for, the voter wl have to recast their vote on someone who hasn't yet been made immune. Lynch Immunity will continue until a majority has been reached, in which case the Day round will end.

Communications[edit source]

Current Assignments[edit source]

Night Time Discussion[edit source]

During Nighttime, each players will send a message to the moderator(s), with the exact length of 10 digits. Taking from Game 3 and 4, a system of number will be used as well. For example, 02 would be FinalFantasyAerith, 11 would be Jimcloud, and 07 would be Sorceror Nobody. All messages should be 23 digits long. Depending on the role of the user, a different message would be sent:

Townsperson[edit source]

A majority of the players are just regular townspeople. In the game-world, the townspeople are supposed to be asleep. Thus, their message does not have to be anything important. The only important thing is that the message is 23 digits long. The townspeoples keys stay the same for the entire game.

Doctor[edit source]

The doctor is a special townsperson role. The player chosen to be the doctor is able to protect a single player during Nighttime from being eliminated by the mafia. He may however not protect the same person twice in a row, and can protect himself only once. The message he sends during the nighttime will look the following way: Protect_##, where ## does once more indicate the number of the character's game. The last 13 digits of the message will be the doctors key for the next night, in order to avoid meta-gaming. An example: If the doctor wishes to protect ChronoKai, he will send Protect_01.

Vigilante[edit source]

The vigilante is a special townsperson role. Every even night, the vigilante is able to eliminate any chosen player from the game. To do so, they send a message on who they wish to kill, with the player being represented with their number (08 to eliminate DTN). To send this message, the selected user will send a message along the lines of Vigikill08. Again, the last 13 digits of the message will be the vigilantes key for the next night, in order to avoid meta-gaming.

Cop[edit source]

The cop is again a special townsperson role. Every night, the cop can choose to investigate any player he wishes to. One of the moderators would then post a message in their outbox, saying if the person was mafia, or not mafia. To send this message, the cop would post Inspect-08 in oder to investigate DTN. Again, the last 13 digits of the message will be the vigilantes key for the next night, in order to avoid meta-gaming.

Mafia[edit source]

The main "antagonists" of the game, and also its namesake, the Mafia act during the night to eliminate a townsperson. To do so, they send a message on who they want to kill, with a preference order (1, 2, 3) on whom to kill. After each message is recieved, the numbers are tallied up - three points for first priority, two for second, and one for third. The player with the highest preference will then be eliminated from the game (unless he was protected by the doctor, of course). The last 10 digits of the message will be the mafias key for the next night, in order to avoid meta-gaming. To send their list, they will send a message along the lines of this: kill090112 would mean that the Mafia member wishes for DoorToNothing to be killed the most, with ChronoKai a second and Jimcloud a third place. You can mention less or more characters, however, you must at least provide two numbers, and remember: Your message has to be exactly 13 digits long.

Please make sure that the message you send is exactly 23 digits long, and does conform to your role.

Day Time Discussion[edit source]

During Day Time, you all are required to discuss about who is the most likely to be Mafia. You are free to discuss as long as you see necessary, however, the discussion will be ended as one of two things happen: 1) all players cast their votes, in which case Lynch Immunity will be enforced (see above); 2) a majority is reached on a player, in which case the round will immediately end and all voting will cease. You can also speak out suspicions, however, you are not allowed to suspect the same player twice in the same Day phase, and you should always be aware: Randomly dishing out suspicions might have you end up being the one people will vote to lynch.

In order to give your suspicion and/or lynch votes, add a ---- to your talkbubble entry, and add something like, for example, Suspicion: A.J. two +1 or Lynch: Ultima +1. An example with of such a post:

NeA-Tannor.png

The use of nicknames is allowed. But if a person can't be readily identified, then it is generally not wise to use said nickname. For example, SilverCrono can still be identified if the nickname Silver is used, but Water Elephant will not immediately point to Blue Ivory (even though it can eventually be deduced).

Be aware that these example were created before the Mafia members were chosen. They do not in anyway reflect upon that user's role within the game itself.

Communications Table[edit source]

The current phase is Night I.

– C O M M U N I C A T I O N S T A B L E –
All messages should be encrypted using the player's given encryption key. Messages from the moderator to a player go in that player's "Inbox", while messages sent to the moderator go in the "Outbox". The encryption site can be found here. In order to avoid potential wiki markup parsing problems, you must place <nowiki></nowiki> tags around all coded messages that are put in this table. Also bear in mind that the encryption keys are case-sensitive, and are all exactly twenty-three characters in length.

If you receive a message which contains any newline (¶) characters, you are advised to go into page editing mode and copy the message from there. This is because the newline breaks caused by the width constraints on the cells in this table on the normal view of this page can seriously mess up the decoding process.

During Night Phases, "murder messages" are required from all "living" players, even those who aren't Mafia. This is because if only the Mafia players sent them, it would be obvious which players were Mafia! Since "dead" players' factions are known to everyone, they are the only players exempt from sending murder messages.

Coded messages are permitted to be sent at any time during the game. Depending on the precise content and nature of the message, recipients won't necessarily reply. However, even if you don't reply to a message, you should still acknowledge receipt of it by removing it. This also shows that you are still contributing to the game.

Story[edit source]

Prologue: Kraken's Arrival[edit source]

I, Kraken, find myself in rather fickle predicament. My master, the god of Discord, has sent me 2000 years into the future. You see, the Warriors of Light had somehow defeated those who opposed them, and retrieved the four crystals. Chaos now fights for his life against these Warriors, but without the power of all four fiends, he has no hope. However, the god of discord is not one to accept defeat. Mustering the last of his strength, Chaos created a time vortex, sending me, the last of the four fiends to the present day. Here, I have been tasked with reclaiming the four crystals, which are the key to the god of Discord’s revival. Things in this time are, however, problematic. The crystals are now kept in the King of Cornelia’s fortress: an impenetrable lair that only the foolish would lay siege to. As luck would have it, out dearest Monarch has left a perfect opening. He has chosen to throw an exquisite festival for a select group of citizens. It was a simple task for me to manipulate three of these guests, with false promises of wealth and power. I have tasked these “renegades” with eliminating the rest of the rabble, and ultimately killing the king. Only then, will I be able to retrieve the crystals, and resurrect the true god of discord!

Prologue: King’s Journal, pg. 177[edit source]

This is it; the festival starts tomorrow. I should be happy, since this is the first real festival held in over ten years - and my first as King - but alas it is not so. I remember well the story I heard as a child, of the Fiend that escaped the Warriors of Light over two thousand years ago - an event that coincided with the final defeat of Chaos and the subsequent dissolution of the Warriors. At first, I paid no real attention to the story - I had an interest in more pressing matters - but, so many years later was the story ingrained into my mind once more when the previous King of Cornelia - my father - relinquished the control of the kingdom to me and gave me control over the Crystals. However, on his deathbed, he stressed to me to be cautious, for the Fiend could return at any moment and wreak havoc on Cornelia and beyond. For this reason I never held a festival for as long as I was king, out of fear that the Fiend - Kraken I believe - would choose that moment to lay siege to my castle and take the Four Crystals.

But ten years have passed and nothing has happened. I am no less cautious, as is my nature, but in the last few weeks, I have been getting to know some of the denizens of Cornelia, that I might invite those who are trustworthy to a private festival in the castle courtyard. At first, there were sixteen, but I found three to be spies from a rival kingdom seeking my demise and they were “dealt with” accordingly. It was reduced to eleven when two of my attendees mysteriously disappeared without reason. I fear the worst for their lives - but my own as well. Could it be true? Could Kraken really be back? No, no, it cannot be true. These eleven are trusted allies, and I know that they would do nothing to harm me in any way. But, just to be safe, I secretly contacted two of the attendees independently, instilling one as a investigator of sorts and the other as a doctor. I made sure each were adequately trained for their jobs, and urged them - the “cop” especially - to keep their appointments a secret; someone might try to take advantage of them.

But now, it is time for me to lay to rest my hands for the night, for tomorrow is a new day - and a new terror - and I must prepare accordingly. My only wish is that everything goes smoothly, but alas, I do not truly believe that it will; something will inevitably go wrong, but the question is: what?

Day 1: King’s Journal, pg. 178[edit source]

My worst fears have been realized. I woke up to commotion in the courtyard. I assumed it was something wrong with one of the many festivities, and didn’t think much of it. But once I went into the courtyard, my thoughts went elsewhere. In the center of the courtyard lay Chronodia, impaled on top of the fountain. Cid of the Lufaine stood watching, waiting for me. The other festival attendees were in different stages of shock. Some had been there for hours, and were deeply grieved, while others had arrived about the same time as me, and were in denial.

I came to realize it was a mistake to hold this festival. Obviously, one of the attendees had done away with Chronodia, and I could only assume that Kraken had returned. I retreated with Cid back into my castle, where I have begun rearranging my thoughts and assumptions. Kraken wants the crystals, but I don’t intend to give them to him. What I do intend to give him is the corpse of his minion.

I can only hope that my faithful subjects can see through the lies of the traitor and bring him or her to justice.

External Discussion[edit source]

As soon as I finally get into the game, I die. Dammit, I made a talk bubble for nothing... --ShirubaKurono Dissicon ff13 Lig3.png 19:11, March 21, 2011 (UTC)

That stinks. At least the doctors saved you in VI. MystRay 21:17, March 21, 2011 (UTC)
I am sorry I was not able to write the night post, I really am. I have had computer problems, but things are hopefully sorted, and I should be here properly now.  Ultima Dissicon ff4 CecP3.png 23:44, March 22, 2011 (UTC)

It's good to see that the game hasn't died out yet. I'm not holding my breath, however. I wonder what being a Cie'th would be like. . . . A.J. two (Smashboards) 21:53, April 26, 2011 (UTC)

I should point out that players' inactivity is not a direct reflection of your moderative success, so you won't get Cie'thed so easily. That said, I have called on the King for comment, so you may want to reply to that... -- Sorceror Nobody Flan.PNG 17:46, May 12, 2011 (UTC)
So, of course, I make a comment, and the no one replies and the game is pretty much ignored as far as posting is concerned. I really am going to become a CIe'th. Sorry Ultima for dragging you down with me, whenever you read this. But first, I'm going to pound you all so hard. :P A.J. two (Smashboards) 01:58, May 20, 2011 (UTC)
I've told you pnce already that players' inactivity does not reflect directly on your moderation, so stop saying you're going to end up as a Cie'th, or I'll end up turning you into one just so you quit complaining about it >_> Don't give up yet -- Sorceror Nobody Flan.PNG 10:18, May 20, 2011 (UTC)
It's kinda hard to give up when your focus basically has you reply on others. And when the others don't do their part? Well, that's when things turn against me. The point I'm trying to make is, it's not inactivity, at least, not entirely. I know that you (SN) and Jimcloud are around, and I know that most of the others have made edits recently. It's only Pocky, Ultima, Oavatos, and Hamfruitcake that haven't been around recently, for various reasons. What I'm trying to say is that you're here, but you aren't doing anything with the game. That's why I'm wondering about being a Cie'th, because, on my side, it looks like everyone's just ignoring the game, which means, from my PoV, it isn't going to go anywhere, which means it won't conclude, which means that my and Ultima's focus won't be completed. That's why I keep bringing it up. I don't want to be a Cie'th, eternally damned within a crystal shell which offers no warmth, but that's the way it seems to be going. Now, this doesn't hold as much weight now because there has been some posting, but still. A.J. two (Smashboards) 03:39, May 21, 2011 (UTC)
Hey, sorry for not being around much lately AJ. I have tried on several ocassions to try and make an input in this game over the months it's been going on but lately I've been finishing off university so my dissertation has taken precedent. Plus my laptop contracted a virus a few weeks ago wiping a lot of my files, including my first draft for my dissertation, so even more stressful than expected.I also lost my keys for both Mafia games and have been a bit too sheepish to show my face around here for a while. I promise once university finishes, which will be next week, I'll make a concious effort to try and help with this game some more. I really don't want it to die, or for you to become a Cie'th. Sorry about the inconvenience. Hamfruitcake 09 11:01, May 22, 2011 (UTC)
I get from your post that you think that I was yelling at you. I was not - at least, not intentionally. I wasn't meaning anything bad about you guys being gone. I think that I blew up because SN didn't see what I was trying to say. I'm sorry. But, now that I'm calmed down, what I was saying was that my and Ultima's focus requires Mafia V to sucessfully finish. While it is our job to do that, we also have to rely on the users playing the game, as the game won't progress if it's players aren't playing. I was not trying to be mean to you four because you were gone. In the context of what I said there, I was pointing out that a lot of the players are around but weren't participating in the game. I was pardoning you four - not being mad at you - because you were gone, and pretty much everyone knew that. I didn't know your reason Hamfruitcake, but I do now, and I feel really bad for getting mad at you. You and Ultima have legitimate excuses, Oavatos is going through life issues, and Pocky (aka Armageddon11) just wroter that he would be gone for the foreseeable future. So, while I could understand why you guys won't posting, I was getting mad at everyone else who was on-wiki but weren't doing anything with the game.
I realize that this probably still sounds like I'm mad and am being mean to everyone, but I'm not trying to be. I'm sorry if I've offended anyone, but this is what I felt, and still feel now. Basically, how are me and Ultima supposed to complete our focus when the others don't do their part to make sure that we achieve it? That was really what I was trying to say from the start. A.J. two (Smashboards) 22:31, May 22, 2011 (UTC)
I'm back now, and have put the effort into being active here.  Armageddon11! Dissicon ff12 Gab2.png 22:54, May 22, 2011 (UTC)
Okay. Your post made it makes it look like you are mad at me, and you probably are in some capacity, so I just want to say that I'm sorry if what I said offended you in any way. I wasn't trying to make anyone mad, and I wasn't trying to bring anyone down either. A.J. two (Smashboards) 23:00, May 22, 2011 (UTC)
Don't worry about it, seriously, I just felt bad for not being around much and your note made me realise I hadn't given any just cause to abandon the game. I hold no ill feelings towards you and I understand your frustration. I didn't think you were mad at me, I just wanted to say my piece, I wasn't upset in any way. I hope this game starts up in earnest at soon and I'll be there when it does. Good luck. Hamfruitcake 09 09:01, May 23, 2011 (UTC)
