I know it was discussed before and just today a voice actor page appeared. It seems that we actually agreed on that, but aside of that we didn't do anything beside that. From what I can understand the following two points were agreed to be used as a base when deciding which voice actors should get a page here:
It somewhat narrows a bit our voice actor coverage, making it seem we only would give them articles just so anons and occasional editors would shut up and stop complaining how our Wiki has a terrible voice actor coverage as compared to other Wikis. So since it appears we're going to have those pages I think we should also decide on what should be covered on voice actor pages. My proposition is as follows:
Is there an article you think is of an exceptional quality? Vote for it here!
I vote no voice actor pages. They are too far outside scope and from working on FFVII's characters there is almost no information we can get for a lot of them. If people want to read about the VAs, they go to Wikipedia, not here. Sorry, I don't think my input is helpful if us having VA pages is already policy. If it is, I support your layout if we do have VA pages though, but I would make tables for characters instead probably, Game as a column and Character as one. Also that reminds me I need to get voice samples for Cloud's VA and maybe others...hm...
Sounds good to me. If we have a voice sample(s) available maybe those could go on the page as well. If the actor has social media like Twitter maybe provide links.
I wrote my own proposal but then I realised it didn't really work. so minor points, name h2 "Roles", use table not ULs. Ext links for Wikip, IMDB, and Twitter are good.
Also I agree with what we said back then. This is at the bottom of our importance list. If there are better things people could be doing I'd rather they be doing them ;) JBed (talk) 17:05, December 9, 2014 (UTC)
Created a VA page based on Kaimi's layout with some modifications, how's this? Is this what we should be going for? Missing an image but I'll upload that later. Just checking the layout/details are fine.
I think "Background" would maybe look better as being the first section. "Works in the series" is a terrible name and a lot of personnel pages has this section on them named in gazillion different ways and it really ticks me off and we should come with something better. The "Voice Acting" H3 header is hardly necessary, true, some voice actors provide for motion reference for some characters (I think Mayuko Aoki provided motion samples for Rinoa), but it's not that important. "Related Games" I approve but as an H3 header. "Notable Work Outside Blah-Blah-Blah". First, it's way too long name for a header name. Second, it's actually hard to determine the "notable" works outside the series so I would be keen on even not including that section altogether; if someone really wants to read more about a particular VA, the reader can read on them on Wikipedia, which is one of the links in the "External Links" H2 section. Also:
I don't remember there being Tifa in the first Kingdom Hearts. Or maybe you just worded something weirdly and it came as something not understandable in regards to anything. I don't know. Is there an article you think is of an exceptional quality? Vote for it here!
I concur with "works in the series" being a terrible name (that's Monterossa's), also I meant "Kingdom Hearts 2". I also fully agree with "Notable Work Outside" being a terrible idea, I've removed it (another thing Monterossa added). I strongly disagree with adding sections like that, which is why I summarised them briefly in Background. So, what about now?
It looks much better. I think that this is what should be so let's get it to MoS, okay? Unless there are people who'd like to add and/or change something.—Kaimi (999,999 CP/5 TP) ∙ 20:25, December 15, 2014 (UTC)
Why is "works in the series" a bad header?Keltainentoukokuu (talk) 20:26, December 15, 2014 (UTC)
- I think anything "in the series" is generally bad because it's implicit. Except in the intro of the page where we use recurring in the series to clearly state it as opposed to in a single game. Still think "Roles". JBed (talk) 20:30, December 15, 2014 (UTC)
I think we should have the year of release (or dub) as a column in the table and have it be sortable. JBed (talk) 20:30, December 15, 2014 (UTC)
I support MoSing it, then editing other VA pages to follow same layout. I will add the year release now, too. RE: "works in the series", I say it is worse than "Voice Acting" as a header because it is longer than "Voice Acting", does not follow OCD rule for capital letters, is annoying to make consistent with that OCD rule, "Voice Acting" just explains it better.
A "voice acting" section on a page about a voice actor is incredibly vague. It's their jawb, does the section contain their career, roles, method, styles? I just checked to see what Wikipedia said and it actually agrees with me, they use "Roles" (on the one I just checked anyway). JBed (talk) 20:40, December 15, 2014 (UTC)
Just make sure all roles are mentioned somewhere. Gackt voiced Genesis but also sung the theme song for DoC and also helped (to some extent) design Genesis's character. Yuna's singer also did motion capture for real Emotion, I think? I guess voice actors don't usually do more than voice though.Keltainentoukokuu (talk) 20:46, December 15, 2014 (UTC)
Added to ACP and MoS based on discussion here. I don't think we have anyhthing more to add to this thread? Unless anyone has any problems with what I added. I do encourage everyone to read Forum:Navbox Megathread and see the latest discussion, as this would decide if we include navboxes for the games on these VA pages, and if the VA pages are linked to on the navboxes.
