This is a hassle, indeed, and also there are opinions that it may be pointless - nothing's gonna change, and being forced to do this seems very one-sided since it's following one person's opinion over another. Everyone has their opinions, true, everyone has the right to voice out their opinions, that's the trend of the modern world these days. A lot of us have different and differing opinions on how to run things. Yes, that's the inevitable truth. |
||
+ | |||
+ | But you also have to understand that etiquette is what makes us a tolerable community. How can we define etiquette when there are so many differing standards in the minds of others? It's hard to reach a common ground in this free-thinking day and age - you are bound to displease at least one person in your attempt to please a whole community. And its unavoidable. Tolerance can only go so far before order turns to chaos, and in the end there'll be only chaos. Yeah, Cronos and Zeus fight to the death. |

Hullo. Today I would like to remind users who are utilizing a Talk Text Template / talk bubble in their conversations within talk pages this: "Please add a timestamp into your talk bubbles". In wiki conversations, it is encouraged to leave a signature to identify one as the author of the block of text. It is considered good wikiquette to do so, as it helps others to keep track of discussions, and to understand who holds which opinions. One needs only to write four tildes to do so. While three or five tildes is okay, four is more encouraged, as it includes both your name and the timestamp to show when you leave a statement. The same is still applied when using talk bubbles. There should be a timestamp for everyone so that they know when such opinions are left. However, this seems to be disregarded by a large number of users here. This is regrettable, and because of this, something must be done. As of 11:01, 15 February 2009 (UTC), users are compelled to create a means to leave a timestamp and use them in their talk bubble. There will be a time when enforcement is carried out, and those who still have not the means to leave a timestamp in their talk bubbles will have their talk bubble locked for editing. Those who attempt to bypass this by creating another talk bubble will have this other talk bubble deleted and user subsequently blocked from editing. Of course, you might think this is somewhat tyrannical, but hey, I had to do something when people still haven't got the message I left for the past years. Thank you for your cooperation.
Finally. I've been secretly hating all of youz that didn't use it. O.O ILHI 14:39, 15 February 2009 (UTC)
For those of you who used to use a signature (as in a text signature instead of the timestamp) previously: Rather than displaying {{{time}}} where it used to be, you can add:
{{#if:{{{time|}}}|{{{time}}}|[past sig]}}
This will substitute the "{{{time}}}" on all old uses of the template where no timestamp was present with your old signature.
That is alright, isn't it Bluer? Because it's not as if someone' going to add the time to all old templates so they're just going to be missing something forever. ILHI 15:47, 15 February 2009 (UTC)
- My signiture already has a timestamp. Do I copy that code for my bubble, ILHI, or is there a different one? BlueLionheart (T/C) 16:34, 15 February 2009 (UTC)
Implemented. From now on type:
{{BlueLionheart|time=~~~~~|talk=[something]}} or {{BlueLionheart|talk=[something]|time=~~~~~}}
ILHI 16:39, 15 February 2009 (UTC)
I approve of this too, as it annoys me when things aren't time stamped. Even something as simple as archiving my talk page is annoying since I can't use the talk templates to check what the dates should be. More major things like not knowing when a certain conversation took place is also annoying and can result in akward responses and the like. Of course, timestamps aren't infallible, since some people don't read them. A very recent example here. Not only is he responding to something I said in September, but he didn't even answer my question anyway. -_-

I have one minor issue with this. I've always had a timestamp in my bubble and its only in the last few days ive removed it. Why, you ask? Simple. It's quicker to type <font= black>{{GB2ktalktext|test=Blahblahblah}} than {{GB2ktalktext|time=~~~~~|text=Blahblahblahblah}}I appreciate that this comes across as somewhat argumentative, and one could argue that I could keep the template on my clipboard. But until such a time, my apologies, it will stay as is.
So laziness. Instead of {{{time}}}, change it to {{{1}}}
{{GB2ktalktext|~~~~~|text=Blahblahblahblah}}
Requires less thought. Of course, on your talkbox, you should add:
{{#if:{{{time|}}}|{{{time}}}|{{{1}}}}}
That code will use the "time" parameter for everytime you used {{{time}}} but will ask for {{{1}}} if on a talkbox you didn't use {{{time}}}. ILHI 23:45, 16 February 2009 (UTC)
Maybe a real stupid question, but is the time I see on people their timestamps adjusted to my time, or theirs?( And yes I haven't fixed it....yet. The timestamp will come.)

All right. A week has passed since this message. I know a lot of you are dissatisfied with this, and I do understand. But you also have to understand that etiquette is what makes us a tolerable community. So, to end my moving speech, everyone who's without timestamps will get an exclusive FFWiki Chocobo talk bubble with a timestamp thrown in for good measure, and talk bubble protected! Let's just wait and see who're the lucky ones! Oh and thread closed for archive.
