Part of a series of reviews of all policies to prepare for the upcoming VII Remake release Hi all, to make this simple: with Final Fantasy VII Remake releasing soon, and Aerith being officially renamed to "Aerith" instead of "Aeris", the question becomes if we should end our old rule to have designated "Aeris" sections in story pages. Currently, I (and many others) are operating under the assumption that Final Fantasy VII Remake would get separate story sections from the original all together, so this mostly concerns if we want to use the name "Aeris" when referring to Aerith in the original game, in Story sections. For gameplay sections, we would still use "Aeris" irrespective, for the same reason we use "Dagger" in gameplay contexts and "Garnet" in story contexts. Please discuss below!

I'd say that since they're **officially** retconning Aeris as Aerith, we should just say "mistranslated as Aeris" at the top of the page and use Aerith everywhere else. There's no other reason to use Aeris anymore other than nostalgia. It always seemed unprofessional, and now it's official.
Personally I believe the use of Aeris in story sections interrupts the flow of reading portions on the original FFVII events, especially when we use Aerith in our summaries of her role in CC and BC. In addition, it seems SE at this point wants us to just shut up and use Aerith judging from promotional stuff for recent releases, e.g the PC version's website that is still based on the PSX/Eidos version translation. As seen here. At this point I also believe many of our readers know of the Aeris/Aerith debacle, and as Tidus suggested we mention that mistranslation in the title. --Miphares (talk) 00:47, September 26, 2019 (UTC)
All the arguments that I made when bringing this up on Discord have already been said, so I don't really have anything to add but my support for killing the rule. -- Some Color Mage ~ (Talk) 12:37, September 26, 2019 (UTC)
