Some of you may recall one of the previous times this came up I opposed moving if we could fix most of the problems with Oasis.

We still have a list of problems.

I support moving.

My question is, who would actually own is new wiki? Someone's name would have to be on the accounts. Who's gonna pay the bills?

Also, no offense to the KH wiki intended, but you guys are rather puny to us in comparison. The are almost 40,000 images and almost 100,000 pages that would have to be moved.

I would like to know where exactly you got these evaluations from. On a topic such as this, I don't exactly trust any word of mouth.

Hmm. Well, thank you for posting that Bluesy. Honestly though, seeing this doesn't change my mind. I think it's fairly obvious that value and visibility will drop upon the move, and it's possible to build that back up with enough effort, which I'm sure at least some of us are capable of. It's a fair price to pay to give us proper control of the wiki we've made.

Once again, that's something that can be built back up. Getting affiliates to change to the new site can help in that respect, but that's not a guarantee.

Wow, I love how you guys talk about Chronopedia as if it was an authority on the Chrono series or anything. The Chrono Compendium encyclopedia (it's a wiki) is the biggest reference for the Chrono series. Comparing the FF Wiki to Chronopedia isn't a good comparison at all. The FF Wiki is more like the Chrono Compendium, except running on Wikia. The.real.cid 21:28, April 13, 2011 (UTC)

I find it interesting that once someone starts making good points for the move, nobody seems to be trying to argue further. Have you guys given up? Also:

Like for someone to make a video-sharing site more popular than YouTube.

Bad example. Google owns YouTube, so even if it started doing poorly, it'd still be given preference on search results. Google doesn't own Wikia, and Wikia can be overtaken by independent wikis.

EDIT 00:10, April 16, 2011 (UTC): Also, Clarent, if you've changed your mind, actually say that you have and why instead of deleting all your posts.

I think you are correct about Google Video (which still exists, BTW), yes.

But anyway, I still believe that moving will end up beneficial in the long term (providing the editors that move give the effort to maintain the quality of the site). Even if we don't move now, some of you should still keep it in consideration. Especially if/when Wikia screws up again.

Well, I see that we have differing opinions on what a major mistake is then. I consider the fact that we still have a list of problems months after Oasis went out of beta to be such a major mistake for Wikia, a lot of those things should have been considered before it became the main skin. But I am kinda diverting from the main topic here, so maybe you should just ignore these ramblings.

I'd just like to point out before anyone says that they need ads to run as a business that MediaWiki has several extensions that put ads on the page in non-obtrusive areas, something that Wikia has flagrantly ignored before, not so much on Oasis, but definitely on previous skins they've made.

But the things that are not minor or our own fault seem to be the ones you have listed as most annoying. Those are the ones that should have been fixed ages ago. I wasn't saying Oasis should be bug free at this point, but there are some things we have asked for that should not be a hassle for Wikia to OK.

As for 'future sins' or whatever, I'm really just seeing pattern recognition here. There were problems with Quartz, there were problems with Monaco, especially the New Monaco ad placements, and there are problems with Oasis. It's just easy to tell that the next skin will bring problems we have to fix while not breaking Monobook in the process, and the next skin, and so on, and there must be a point where you have to say "I've had enough of this."

Also, minor correction, Wikipedia, as far as I can tell, has only gone through one new skin, Vector.

And any more pot shots at other users and I may just start ignoring your comments.

Getting grown used to skin is tolerating it, and people have different thresholds for that. I hated Quartz, but I tolerated it. I hated the ad placements in Monaco (something most of us agree on, from the looks of it), but I tolerated that too, although that's mainly because I didn't have to see it (I liked Monaco in general, it seemed like a natural step up from the more traditional wiki layouts, but maybe I'm just a bit naive there. I sure as hell didn't defend Quartz anyway.). I don't tolerate Oasis. I have to use a ton of CSS to make something passable out of it, and even then, I dislike the feel of it. While there may be some fan haters who immediately decry everything Wikia does as the end of the company, I am not one of them, this is the only thing I've really complained about.

And once again, I have to say the the amount and impact of problems created by moving are diminished if the moving editors are willing to put decent effort to it.

Also, I patrol the recent changes, which has auto refresh, so any opinion on recent changes/added images on the sidebar from me can pretty much be summarised as indifferent. I don't need them, I don't care.

Kinda late for the party, but I guess it's good to offer my viewpoint as someone who's not so active, neither is around for years. Like many people already mentioned, the average user (IE: People like me) will probably not even know about the move nor care about most of the 'issues' presented here as reasons to move.

All this skin talk, for example: I could care less. Probably because I 'missed' all these older skins, I don't see anything wrong with the current one, and I didn't even knew it was called 'Oasis'. I can easily do all basic functions like reading stuff and creating a new article, and really, that's what I care about. If someday, somehow wikia changes stuff and it becomes a pain to upload a few images, create a new article and edit it, then we talk about this.

Then, there's everything that will happen after moving out. It would just be plain HARD to take this wiki out of the first pages of google. Like I said, the general public would probably never know of the move; any current blogs, game forums and other stuff linking to this wiki will still keep doing so; any 'casual' reader will continue reading here and linking his friends here, unless this place is literally bombed.

And finally, there's the community division. Sure, some dedicated editors could move on, maybe even most of them. Still, this wiki will be around and more people will surely come to edit; this will only hurt BOTH wikis as far as content goes, since it's obviously better to have everyone focus on a single place, ensuring relevant content.

So, with all that, just want to add I'm against the move, but it seems like it's already sort of decided it won't happen for now.
