Every now and then, I look through our project pages, our policies... our help pages, our category structures and our entire WikiStructure and think "this could be done better".

So just now, I was doing some. This topic would probably be better discussed on each of the project pages individual talk pages, but these aren't always taken notice of.

Firstly, the Nalbina Dungeons are not used anymore. I was contemplating also categorising it into the archives because it is full of archived stuff, but the archives is the best place for it because the entire thing is dead. Either that or we delete it. We should probably make an "Archived Projects" sub-category of Archives, and maybe we should also split the talk pages from the main Archives category and put them in an "Archived Discussions" subcategory.

Secondly, I want to revisit our Vandalism project page, or lack thereof. It was an idea that Jeppo planned and there was a discussion. As with most discussions, it didn't get far.

I don't think what's in that sandbox is perfect yet, firstly, the do not bite the newcomers policy is the "always assume good faith" rule. Furthermore, the existing Please Don't Bite the Newcomers policy should be rewritten and moved. It's an official project page on a well-established Wikia... that has a Dewikify template at the top? It should be incorporated into the Vandalism project page, or another project page entitled "Good faith". It could go in Vandalism, since good-fath/bad-faith is discerning between what is vandalism and what isn't... actually it would probably work better as part of a Vandalism project page.

Thirdly, Project:By the fans and for the fans is contradictory because I rewrote some of our project pages to be in line with new-policy. I reckon we should just delete the page because it's not what the wiki is. On the talkpage 8bit suggests mentioning things like how Dead Fantasy and 8bit Theater are to be covered, but I think we should use our Scope for that. How we should improve that project page I'll share at another time. :) JBed 15:50, October 5, 2010 (UTC)

Ok, this may be because it's 12:15 AM here, or just me, but I get about half way through that before it just becomes mush. You talk about vandalism and what not all over the place, but you never clearly said what the problem that you are trying to assess is, nor what we should do about it. Like I said, that my just be because it's 12:15 in the morning, but can you please summarize for me? Thanks =) Likeacupcake 16:15, October 5, 2010 (UTC)

I agree with all points, but I honestly can't see the problem of Project:By the fans and for the fans. -Henryacores^ 16:37, October 5, 2010 (UTC)
Well, its original purpose was different, this. "if you're reading this you must be a first timer" - policy pages aren't just for beginners, they're pages we link to so we can justify actions with support from the wiki. Skipping the second paragraph for now, "When you are editing, you should always be bold" - users aren't usually asked to be bold. In fact, if someone is bold, does a good faith edit, and gets it wrong, they don't often get a happy reply. We have regulations for a reason, there's no need to be bold because it should either be already covered by official policy, or requires discussion. There is no need to be that bold on the wiki. And then it says there are loads of community activities. Now, I remember back in 2009 there were a lot of complaints about people using the wiki as a social networking site. So we don't really want to encourage it.
So that leaves just the second paragraph, and by itself it isn't actually that much. It doesn't make for a good policy page really, and again, we don't really like to encourage the FFWiki being used as fan-site. So none of the original content really held true in today's wiki. After my revamp, the second paragraph became the first, and the tone basically says "the wiki was created by fans for fans", which isn't that unique to our wiki. I did keep links to the on-going fan-projects and linked to some. But we don't exactly need a project page directing people to these, when we have the Returners' Conclave (which also needs a revamp).
So, it could stay, but since the wiki has changed since CSM first created it, none of what he said really holds true anymore, which is why we have a completely different project page. JBed 17:31, October 6, 2010 (UTC)
What with Wikia fucking up, updating policies could be a good distraction. But usually ILHI shows more interest in them than most users. BLUER一番 17:40, October 6, 2010 (UTC)
For the record, CSM didn't create this wiki. It was functionally abandoned when a few of us started editing here. I still remember when he was given ownership. Nevertheless, he was our fearless leader for quite some time, and in many ways remains very instrumental. T·A·C·T·I·C·A·N·G·E·L 03:36, October 8, 2010 (UTC)
