		So I was thinking about the series today... FF6, in particular. I noticed that it gave a detailed background for just about everything. Magic, Espers, history of the world... but what about the monsters? Many games go into details on that, but I can't for the life of me remember anything ingame or in the sourcebook for 6's. But... 1: No explanation given, to my knowledge, but given the simplistic plot that's understandable. 2: Generic demons summoned straight from hell. Simple, but it works. 3: No explanation that I know of.... 4: "Cousins of Eidolons" presumably from the moon, random wildlife gone wild through Zemus' influence, and Lugae's genetic experiments. The first full explanation, as far as I know. 5: See 1 and 3. 6: It seems like everything has a detailed explanation except the monsters. Can anyone prove this wrong? I'd be happy to be wrong in this case! 7: Mako-monsters and Hojo's experiments, IIRC. Basically just 4 all over again, but more high-tech. 8: From the moon! Kinda like 4 again. Gasp. 9: Um.. Mist, right? 10: Some jazz about Unsent that I never fully understood, but at least it was explained. 11: Drawing a blank here. 12: I seem to recall there being an explanation, but I don't remember it either. So, did I miss anything major?

		In XII, they were the local fauna/flora (in the case of malboros)

		The majority of your generic monsters in II were summoned by Emperor Mateus from god-knows-where.

		Two elaboartions: II: Indeed, the Emperor summoned the monsters from hell via the Jade Passage. IX: Monsters come from the Mist. I was never too sure if it mutated normal animals into monsters or if monsters eventually formed from the mist.

		I know for a fact tha monsters in FFXI are mostly beastmen (basicly monster witha social structure) and various flora and fauna and a few instances of deamons and the like. And I think that any FF that dosent give an explination means that they arejust natrualy occuring.

		Yeah, they seem natural for a lot of the games, but again 6 sticks out. Even magic gets an explanation of where it came from, and summons... monsters are A) similar to some Espers in design and B) users of magic, so they can't be naturally occuring.

		The deal with IX seemed to be that the Mist stimulated fighting in humans (causing war, etc), and caused animals to mutate. So basically, monsters were mutated animals. That doesn't cover the continents that don't have mist, or Terra, of course, but what do you want? :P
