This is quite good, although it would be nice if we got some guidelines regarding the "/Gameplay" subpage so there wouldn't be any confusion. Why would we do that "Alternate Reality Versions"-like thing? I don't understand what you want to do with it.—Kaimi (999,999 CP/5 TP) ∙ 21:00, June 16, 2016 (UTC)

Guidelines may be needed for /Gameplay pages. What guidelines are you thinking of? Also for the main gameplay section. On this section, I knew we needed to link to the Limit page and the weapons page, but wasn't sure how best to. Use {{main}} links there as well? All this sort of stuff will probably need deciding on. As for the "Alternate Reality Versions"-like thing, my idea was for other appearances section - currently it's just a dull list, I was thinking replace that with the table and give it images.--Magicite-ffvi-ios.png Technobliterator TC 21:09, June 16, 2016 (UTC)
For "/Guidelines" like what (kind of) sections go in there, FF games are rather diverse in gameplay so some help here would be good. I think the link-in-text for her Limits and weapons is a better idea than just putting it on the main: looks a bit more encyclopedic IMO. And I think list is a better option for "#Other appearances" because there are some varying graphics among the many games and it would look rather horrific to have all those different styles condensed in a close space.—Kaimi (999,999 CP/5 TP) ∙ 21:16, June 16, 2016 (UTC)
I see your point there. I'll take a few more opinions before I'd say we can start doing this for more pages in a few days' time.--Magicite-ffvi-ios.png Technobliterator TC 21:34, June 16, 2016 (UTC)

I don't have a strong opinion on tabs or TOC but would these appear on the mobile version as well? When previewing for mobile I don't get a table of contents at all.

Nice to get this done finally though, some main characters' pages are huge and it's slow editing them.Keltainentoukokuu (talk) 21:46, June 16, 2016 (UTC)

If we went for the tabs or TOC approach, neither would appear on the mobile version. That's why I've decided against including links there for the time being. Eventually, we may have a mobile-friendly way to add links outside of just the main template, and it'll be worth considering then. And I agree, it's slow loading and editing tons of pages for playable characters, splitting them should mostly solve that problem.--Magicite-ffvi-ios.png Technobliterator TC 21:50, June 16, 2016 (UTC)

Okay, I think we can start properly moving this weekend. However, just to make sure on a few points:

  1. Do we definitely want other appearances on post-split pages to look like this, as opposed to this?
  2. For other appearance subpages, do we definitely want sideicons and navboxes for the other appearances to appear on the /Other appearances subpage, or on the main page as well? (please not the main page too, that can bloat the bottom of the article with tons of navboxes)
  3. On gameplay sections on post-split pages, like this, do we definitely not want to create links to their stat, limit break etc pages, and just leave the links in the prose? I'm not sure if those should be made more noticeable or not.
  4. For galleries relating to the characters' other appearances, should those go in their /Gallery subpage to see all images related to that character, their /Other appearances subpage to immediately have the image and the information about their other appearance available, or on both for both reasons if users can remember to update both?
  5. Is everything else you see on the example page fine? Please check in the discussion above.

After this is done, can probably update ALG, ACP and all that stuff.--Magicite-ffvi-ios.png Technobliterator TC 22:41, June 17, 2016 (UTC)

  1. Spiderman Wiki design looks rather confusing, lists all the way.
  2. Agree with Kaimi.
  3. Data is the most important part of a gameplay section, and the links should be in a list, I think.
  4. No reason not to have images on both the gallery page and the Other Appearances. Gallery should encompass all the images we have of a character.
  5. Could we template the infobox and have it on each of the subpages, preferably including links to the other subpages? It would help keep each of these groups of subpages internally linked together. Cat (meowhunt) 00:34, June 18, 2016 (UTC)
Oh. That's really interesting. Adding the links in a list above the prose could work fairly well, honestly. As for the infobox stuff, it might be possible to template the infoboxes in a subpage, otherwise, we could do what KHWiki does and just have separate infoboxes for the different subpages. However, given how few pages will need to be changed if we're still only splitting pages for main series playable characters, I think we can safely just leave changes like that (as well as Marvel wiki's table thing, if no one else shows any real interest in it) until later. Mainly since my project after this was going to be redoing character infoboxes entirely, and I could bundle these changes in with that. Also, I'd absolutely want the infobox to contain links to the subpage, but haven't done that for the same reason.--Magicite-ffvi-ios.png Technobliterator TC 01:01, June 18, 2016 (UTC)

And I'm going to now start splitting the rest of the pages, any help would be appreciated. After they're all split, projectspace changes can be made, forum can be left up a few months for any issues.--Magicite-ffvi-ios.png Technobliterator TC 17:04, June 20, 2016 (UTC)

Also, I suggest the following criteria for making subpages.

  • Gameplay subpage: Any time the character is playable, particularly in a main series game.
  • Other appearances: Whenever there are 5 or more other appearances.
  • Gallery: Created whenever deemed necessary, case-by-case.

Quick survey, two questions. So, I'm onto FFIX and FFII as the last ones next, then I'll do random splits like the villains of each game, the characters from spinoffs of the main series, and then finished. Are there any others that need doing? And also, on Y'shtola/Other appearances, there's a different layout from the normal other appearances pages, which I find interesting. Should we go with that?--Magicite-ffvi-ios.png Technobliterator TC 21:02, June 29, 2016 (UTC)

What's so different about Y'shtola's page? I can't see any difference from other pages.—Kaimi (999,999 CP/5 TP) ∙ 21:39, June 29, 2016 (UTC)
The layout itself isn't, but it uses "Series appearances" and "Other appearances". I think that might suit the contents of the page better.--Magicite-ffvi-ios.png Technobliterator TC 21:42, June 29, 2016 (UTC)

Hey, all! I think I've now finished the splitting the (most important?) character pages, so I'll update the projectspace soon, and have got the bot to update the page layouts. Since that's all of them to my knowledge done, I'll leave it to you guys to do the rest. Might get a few updates on the split pages soon when I overhaul the character infobox eventually. Hopefully you like what was done and enjoy your much faster/less bloated pages, and thanks to Kaimi and Kelt in particular for the help. Will leave the forum up for a couple days, but I think we're done here for now.--Magicite-ffvi-ios.png Technobliterator TC 22:07, July 2, 2016 (UTC)
