So I just finished with a seminar with Wikia about mobile devices. They're apparently recording it, but I thought I summarize it here for you all. Essentially, they're upgrading the mobile app to a new one around mid-December. Now this isn't like a Monaco/Oasis change; the current mobile skin is not really that great (i.e. terrible). While this seems kinda unimportant, apparently a pretty significant amount of people access this wiki with a mobile device (we're in the top ten of all of Wikia for mobile access). So we should probably consider the mobile users as well. Oasis crushed some of our tables, but from what I can see there is now a thing that expands crushed tables (e.g. List of Final Fantasy II Weapons#Spears [Did we do that or did Wikia? Either way I love it]) which should also work in the mobile skin. If it looks nice in Oasis then it should look nice on this new Mobile app. The only thing that has to change is the main page. Thankfully, we don't have to gut that, we just have to make a new, simpler one for mobile browsing. Wikia is also considering a way to have a blanket MediaWiki thing that displays pages one way on a computer and one way on a mobile device. Basically the thing is, as far as I can tell, Wikia has actually done a pretty good thing here. And so far, it does seem like a little bit of work, but this as far as I can tell isn't a bad thing.
Have to keep up with the times. I'm not surprised if gaming wikis get a lot of access by mobile devices because the users of these wikis are the kind of people who would also own such a device, plus if you need help in a game while you are playing maybe you don't want to walk to your computer if you've got your mobile in your pocket that does the same thing. Top ten though, nice! I think we must redo the mainpage to make it userfriendly if it doesn't work with mobile users. What needs changing exactly? Can someone do a rough mock-up?

As apparently we get quite a bit of mobile visitors (see what Kelt and Scathe said above) we can and should optimize the skin for them. Scathe mentioned a way to do something about the main page. Because they disabled floating to make sure infoboxes work, the main page fails. It's been this way for who knows how long. Basically, we get this butt-ugly Featured Article thingy taking up the whole screen, then the Worldwide Network and directory, then some other stuff, then the affiliates. I suggest cutting off FAs or at least shrinking the box; it looks horrible and takes a long time to scroll through. Most articles look better than I expected them to, though. So basically, we just fix up the main page, and wait for Wikia to figure out editing, and we're home free here. Oh, and hope that mobile editing doesn't up the amount of textese in the mainspace. That would be a pain. EDIT: Jonny's Galleries are 1 image per row in the skin. Yeah. Not sure what to do about that, or if we *should* do something about that. EDIT 2: On an actual mobile devices, talk bubbles are collapsed again. Looks horrible. Luckily visitors don't care about talk bubbles. And galleries aren't a biggie, one image takes up the width of the screen anyways o_0

Hopefully, this means we can do something about the main page, without even CSS. Forget about what I said about the galleries, it's too small on a mobile browser to even work anyhow.
