I don't know what the extension is, but we have our own ways of displaying things on maps. We don't because we don't have all the maps, and also our articles aren't up to the expectation anyway. On a better written article, like Kefka's Tower, the list of items links to the area it is found in, and then the location explains specifically where the item can be found. On other articles we actually have maps that points out things. On some articles we also point out locations of things by trix already.

Not that I don't imagine that whatever the Wikia Maps extension is will be bad. But the extension won't solve the problem, we need the maps to be able to point out the locations, and most of our articles aren't good examples because our writers haven't yet written sections about treasure location up to the expected standard. While I don't know how much the page loading time would increase I don't suppose the raise would be more than a second, but I suppose area maps would be replaced with treasure maps. Or would we incorporate treasures into the Area maps?

Wooo.. this stuff is really cool! i can totally see it working for FFXI and FFXIV area maps. Can they be embedded in articles tho? If so it'd totally change the way we handle location pages in like FFXI, which are not particularly text heavy --Arciele Spira (talk) 05:48, November 3, 2014 (UTC)

Heh, it doesn't work well with Monobook like BlueH said. The Recent Changes spam could be avoided with hiding the edits related to adding points to the map. Also, each point of interest requires one edit? Can't that be done all at once? :well, policy dictates that the wiki is primarily optimized for Oasis no? is it possible to determine how many people currently browse using monobook (i know i do lol)? but anyway until the monobook bug is fixed tho, a workaround could probably be to have a link (like this? Map of Limsa Lominsa Upper Deck) to go alongside it? or if its possible to code into the embed itself.. so that at least if the embed doesnt work, you can click the link to redirect (cos right now it doesn't work on monobook either way). :Yeah, there are shortcomings RE: Monobook and Recent Changes. The solutions are to use the "View in Oasis" option in the monobook toolbar, and to disable logs in the recent changes (click "Hide logs" or append ?hidelogs=1 to the URL) if somebody's flooding the RC with map edits.  19:40, November 3, 2014 (UTC)

But the extension won't solve the problem, we need the maps to be able to point out the locations, and most of our articles aren't good examples because our writers haven't yet written sections about treasure location up to the expected standard.
