Hey folks, In light of us probably getting more news about Final Fantasy VII Remake at E3, I would like to propose changing policies for remake games to give them more independence than they do now. It's very clear that this game will be a huge release, and that a lot of the content applying to the remake will not apply to the original. Therefore, I think we should give the remake its own categories, navboxes, sideicon, and etc. as if it was its own game. For the VII Remake, I think it's worth its own navigation slide, honestly. For consistency, the Final Fantasy IV 3D remake can have this, its own game page, and more. We can define when it gets treated as its own game in Project:Scope as "remake will fully remade graphics as well significant gameplay and lore changes" (which is to say, III does not count, same gameplay). I'm as of yet undecided if category changes should only apply to gameplay (for instance, "Category:Characters in Final Fantasy VII Remake" feels redundant... but not having it makes it feel incomplete?). Any thoughts on this?

Splitting the VII remake from VII makes a whole lot of sense, as does IV's DS remake, both appear to have complete upheavals of the original game's systems and in the case of VIIR seems to be just completely different. I think "Category: Characters in FF7 Remake" looks dumb and we should just hve gameplay categories only
There might be new characters in FFVIIR, or characters from the compilation that never appeared in the original. If some rando NPCs will become named characters I guess it could be said they "appeared" in the original? Probably no new playable characters unless they really throw in a curveball, but could be new guests (Biggs and Jessie?). So I don't think FFVIIR characters/locations categories is a bad idea.
What I'm dreading is character pages like Cloud's when the Remake will have a different continuity. Maybe it's minor enough that we'll just "in the original he blah blah, but in the Remake he instead blah blah". But I think it's possible they will rewrite something major, or if they add backstory (you know they will!) I don't think it can automatically be said to be true for the original canon as well.Keltainentoukokuu (talk) 08:54, June 6, 2019 (UTC)
I get both arguments on the categories tbh. If there's no clear consensus then it might be that it comes down to a strawpoll. Yeah, I agree it could be a huge pain if they update the canon... We'll cross that bridge when we get to it, I guess? This is how I handled it for the Ratchet & Clank 2016 remake (which completely rewrote the story): w:c:ratchetandclank:Alonzo Drek#History.
I'd actually be inclined to say that III might count, as they messed with so many things under the hood that there are a lot of places where the Famicom strategies don't really apply to other versions, even if it's much less a drastic of a change as IV's remake.
In any case, splits in the case of remakes are needed. Covering VII and VIIR was already assumed to be impossible, and the description of gameplay at E3 today just confirmed it. These are two separate games and need to be covered separately. -- Some Color Mage ~ (Talk) 13:03, June 11, 2019 (UTC)
I've started work on VII Remake as a priority; the other games can come later. I've added it to Module:Codename as a separate entity, so it has its own class and sideicon (thanks to Lycentia). Over time I'll be doing things for maintenance like ensuring consistent image naming, citations, and etc. while also adding new content as it's revealed. It'll be a massive pain to keep everything organized, but to prep for incoming traffic/editors, I'll hopefully start the template/policy revamp I always wanted, and maybe enforce the new image rules but only for VII Remake. Additionally, will be fixing up location pages on the original VII like I always wanted to in preparation for the remake. Glad to see good progress so far! Aside from obvious things that need updating here and there, it's great to see the wiki is kept up to date while I've been busy with R&C Wiki.
