		As an added measure to protect the IRC channel of the Final Fantasy Wiki, I would like to implement mode +R on the channel. This means basically that only registered users would be allowed to talk on the main window. Registering on freenode's IRC server is very easy. All you have to do is login to freenode's server (that is, login as you always do) and type /nickserv register <yourpassword> <youremailaddress>. For example /nickserv register MyPassword faethin@notgonnatellya.com Questions or comments? Edit 04:37, January 18, 2010 (UTC): <yourpassword> refers to the password you're going to use to access the channel, not your email password. After you've registered, you must type /nickserv identify <yourpassword> For example /nickserv identify MyPassword Always use the same nickname you had when registering, otherwise the identify comman will not work and you will not be able to talk on the main window.

		Sounds like a sound plan, but for some (like me) who'll probably forget about this might make it a bit troublesome....I don't know really x_x

		I can understand reason for doing this, but I play the laziness card. I've registered the nick, "Master_Conjurer," in the past, but I find it so annoying to log into it, that I let it reset before being bothered to use it again. I'd just rather be able to log on without the hassle.

		What about new users? We know the majority of them do not read either the help page or the topic message. It also interferes with my client, which stupidly takes off my "identified" flag if I change nicks (>_<"). As for logging in, you can also use /ns identify <password>, which is slightly less to type. If you use a client, you can set identification to something short like /n (if your client allows editing of aliases), or even better, to automatically identify as soon as you log on. What caused you to think of this, Feavyre? EDIT: Never mind about my first paragraph.

		This new registration process does not take into account people who do not have an e-mail address. What happens then?

Every time i try to register my nick the IRC says it's already registered. Other users who are like me? What will they do? Cause I really like my nick and I don't want to change it.Redeemer & Destroyer 17:10, January 18, 2010 (UTC)

		@Xenomic: Sorry. Write it down or something. @MC: Again, sorry. Laziness is no argument. Besides, you can use any non-web IRC client to save your login settings and avoid the "trouble" of identifying. @San-San: Two things: a recommendation from Freenode themselves concerning a wave of spammers that hit their servers last week, and the fact that it is very easy to banskip with our current settings. @BL: Nobody lacks an email account. If somebody does, perhaps this might encourage them to get this very useful means of communication called electronic mail. @R&D: your nick is probably already taken. Login and ask somebody on the channel if they can help you with this. If I'm around, I'll help.

		Well, laziness is my only issue, so I'm pretty fine with it if no-one takes my nick (which may or may not become an issue, judging some nick-swappers). And (to 1st) please refrain from polling about these things. Wikis are about agreement, not popularity.

		Unregistered users who log on to IRC can always check the status tab for instructions on how to register, or PM a fellow IRCer for help.

		I have two responces to this... if this is related to a poor attempt to keep me out of the channel, it fails, and I can get around it. T_T if this is NOT a poor attempt to keep me out, then I say nay to this, for new users shall not be able to join the channel, and the +R flag is used to make channels private, for the majority of Freenode users DO NOT have a registered account. And thus adding +R flag to the channel, shall dwindle the user count, will make the channel less user friendly. If you do do this however, I highly suggest moving the IRC link to a new page, and listing all details on how to register on that page. And replacing the link with a link to the page listing the registration details, and including an IRC link at the end. I'd be more than happy to make that link btw.

		Nah, no ego problem anymore, I just LOVE giving Faethin Hell, my dream is to be the next BlueHighwind (but more jackassy like XP....no not really. :P)

As a non-regular user who has only used this wiki's chatroom once or twice, I have to say "I'm fine with this". But I do have to reiterate the obstacle this is for new users. FFXIII will be launched soon in Europe and America, meaning potential new users. If they don't they think the hassle is to great to jabber/talk/discuss on and on, they won't stick around.
And yes, a Laguna exists and lives on Wikia! Maybe I should spend more time here, as my nick is Final Fantasy related...

http://irc.wikia.com/irc.cgi?adv=1 lets you identify before logging in and let you do some other neat stuff with Wikia's IRC Client, FYI. Clicking "Auth to Services" on Freenode's chat can let you do the same. --Gamer2127 03:02, February 1, 2010 (UTC)
