There was a time, back in May of 2010, when the supreme transcendental nonentity, Sorceror Nobody, thought it would be amusing to brand some l'Cie. It was very much just for the sake of mild amusement, and he did not expect more than a couple of users to volunteer.
Five months and twenty-three l'Cie later, Sorceror Nobody was astonished by just how many users seem thrilled at the prospect of eternal servitude with a risk of eternal damnation. In fact, he was beginning to consider how best to start making use of them for the purposes of entertainment. Certainly, having l'Cie whose Foci are largely beneficial to the Wiki is nice, but it was about time that something fun was extracted from them.
A suggestion by one of the l'Cie, Bond em7, eventually cropped up in the Flan's Elbow Colosseum. Remarking that it "could be really exciting... or just a colossal waste of time... but what do we have if not time right?", he made the proposal of a tournament between the Sorceror l'Cie. Thus the Grand Sorceror l'Cie Tournament was born, and after a month of consideration and planning, and with a further dozen l'Cie available for inclusion, it is approaching fruition. Unlike the superficially similar Magicite Madness II tournament, this tournament has only thirty-two participants. Another difference between this and Magicite Madness II is that this is a double-elimination tournament rather than a single-elimination one, meaning that a l'Cie has to lose two fights before being knocked out.
If you want to help spread the word about this tournament, this banner and this "popup" can be used.
Rules
- Each round lasts one week, and the total duration of the tournament will be eleven weeks.
- The closing of each round, and start of the next one, occurs at 20:00 (UTC) every Monday.
- Only registered users may vote, and must ensure that they are logged in when they do so.
Furthermore, the wiki's signature policy applies: username, userpage link, and timestamp. - Votes and comments constituting personal attacks or insults will be removed. Keep it civil.
- In the event of a tie, GF's random die-rolling function will be used to determine the winner.
- Misconduct may be punishable by revocation of voting privileges for the entire tournament.
- Any l'Cie who attempts to corrupt the fairness of the tournament risks being turned Cie'th.
- Sorceror Nobody is in charge, with further management provided by DSS and Paramina.
- If any user suspects another of misconduct, they are strongly requested not to voice this
in public. Instead, they're advised to inform only Sorceror Nobody, DSS and/or Paramina.
Specific details about votes:
If any l'Cie finds a vote that they believe to be questionable, generally on the basis of Rule 4, they may contact any of the three tournament managers with their concerns. All such claims will be reviewed, and if the claim is upheld, the vote will be dealt with accordingly. However, repeated unjustified claims could be treated as a breach of Rule 6 and/or 7, and could result in any further claims from the l'Cie in question being ignored.
It should be noted that although canvassing for votes is technically not prohibited, it is less than sporting, and is therefore not encouraged. More importantly, something that is expressedly forbidden is canvassing anywhere that is likely to give a particular advantage, e.g. a l'Cie canvassing on a wiki that they edit on but their opponent does not. The only places where canvassing is permitted are the Final Fantasy Wiki and the #FFWiki IRC channel.
In all issues concerning management of votes, Sorceror Nobody's decision (after discussion with DSS and Paramina) is final.

Secondary bracket
Because the tournament is double-elimination, when a l'Cie loses a match in the main bracket, they are not knocked out. Instead, they drop into this bracket, and it is only after losing a match here that the l'Cie is knocked out entirely. The winner of Round S7 here will go on to face the winner of the main bracket in the Grand Final, while the l'Cie in Round S8, competing for third place, are the runners-up from the two brackets.

Oh Jesus Christ, its starting again! I was hoping that the current fad of everybody making their own DNC would help stop the return of this plague. Two years ago the first Magicite Madness spawned roughly ten dozen individual copy-cat tournies, including a particularly insipid one where users were judged in a friendly tournament. Things got decidedly unfriendly because contests like these are impossible to not offend somebody. The losers always feel unliked and unpopular, and suddenly we've turned the FFWiki into High School. You think the DNC creates a lot of arguments? You aint seen nothing yet. No surprise, only one person on this list was actually around for that period, Nelo, who should know better. And I do hope you asked everybody's permission (especially ILHI's) before putting them in these brackets, or there will be Hell to pay.
Yup...everyone has signed up to be tortured and abused. There was a big sign up sheet, so nobody can say they didn't know, or didn't want to enter.
Sorceror Nobody – A hated enemy of Cocoon Talk · Flan's Elbow Colosseum · MSPA Wiki · 19:21, November 17, 2010 (UTC) A fal'Cie? You mean me? Perish the thought... I am much more than much more than that!
This has been building up for a month, and my l'Cie are well aware of it. Particularly those that frequent IRC, although I have been alerting most of the others on various developments. I did do the whole permission thing initially, and got no explicit refusals, although if we're really technical about it one could argue that since this is about my l'Cie, it's sort of those "personae" rather than the users themselves, thus I retain the ability to override on the l'Cie basis. But I know that's a rather flimsy argument, and I don't like using it, really >_>
I might double-check on JBed though... and I can always switch in the utterly expendable Ninja solution. As for offence issues, believe me, I'm working on that. As noted at the top of the page, the main thing stopping this tournament from starting is that the system for moderating votes needs to be figured out. I have no intention of running this tournament until I am confident that I've put measures in place to keep it as civil as possible. One thing that is already decided is that any vote that is clearly a personal attack will be removed without question, but further moderation principles are still being developed. Hopefully, the fact that the users involved are my l'Cie will reduce the personal nature of it, as it doesn't depend solely on the user, but also on their l'Cie attributes. I've discussed these issues primarily with DSS and Paramina, but all of my l'Cie have been tacitly invited to join in this discussion. Pretty much anyone else can join in, actually, although I think it's important to concentrate on finding something that the l'Cie are okay with, seeing as they'll be on the receiving end of whatever ends up going through. One of the reasons that it's a double-elimination tournament is that I don't want any l'Cie to go out from one bad fight, which is also a factor on the whole "upset" issue. Admittedly, I could have made it a triple- or quadruple-elimination to further ensure a decent run for all participants, but I don't think my will to live, or anyone else's, would have coped with that. Any suggestions you may have are very welcome. You can also come onto my channel, ##negaplasma, where the main topic is currently dedicated to working out the moderation system. I'm going to hazard a guess that you have no interest in doing so, of course, but on the offchance that you do, bear in mind that you'll need an invitation, and for that you'll need to be on when I am.

I presume you're referring to my final reshuffle of the brackets. I did it because of yourself and DrakeyC simply replacing A.J. two and JBed, and I felt that this warranted one final re-randomisation of the brackets, just to make it absolutely unbiased.
There will be no more such changes. The tournament brackets are completely set in stone as of now.
... So, I'm up against Acrum first? I have a feel I won't make it past the first round, but hey, this could be fun.
Same. I think no one's gonna vote for me so it'll be a landslide...

How many times? It's double elimination, so it is impossible for anyone to go out in the first round. Also, canvassing for votes is slightly immoral but technically permitted, so you can try that if you want. Let's not forget that I want to draw a decent number of voters, so any that you can bring to the tournament are welcome, even if you do so by canvassing.
Oh, and you can vote for yourself too, don't forget. Preferably with justification, mind you :P
Well, in memory of this occaision, I decided to make myself a talk bubble to promote the competition (and me to a lesser extent.) What d'you think? P.S. Isn't it typical that once I request a focus change, I get loads of ideas for my original focus? May the best l'cie win!

If only I were a reglular still. I wonder if I would win at all if I was put into the tourney. Just wondering: Does a l'Cie have to be a regular editor to participate in the contest? Because, if it's just (I guess) voting for the "better" user, wouldn't (and shouldn't) my name be on the list?

@Mog&Boko: Nice! Although if it's to promote the tournament, would it not help to have a link in it somewhere? >_>
@Kayreeed: I really really hope that's a sarcastic question. The answer is clearly no. @A.J. two: It's not specifically because you're not a regular editor, more that with the branding of more than 32 l'Cie, I chose to replace you because the others are more consistently on-wiki. It's an extremely subtle difference, but I hope you see what I mean. Anyway, nice to see you're still around-ish, and if you happen to be able to participate in voting, that would be great : )

You get to live.
No, seriously, wouldn't the knowledge that you won be enough? *sigh* Every l'Cie in the tournament will get a userbox for participating, and the top four will get similar userboxes, but with a statement of their rank.
