This was always a popular topic in a Transformer forum I went to, except it should be easier for Final Fantasy. Basically, if someone had a kid, which Final Fantasy characters would they be able to name them after without getting odd looks from people? I guess a good few would be: Names you can certainly use:
Names that are possible:
Names YOU COULD NEVER USE!
So, what do you guys think? Who should go where, feel free to add or change entries. Also, would you ever name one of your kids after a Final Fantasy character?
I might name my hypothetical little girl Edea. Its an awesome name if I only knew how to pronounce it. I always though it was said like this "edEEa".

I think it's E-D-a(uh), but that's just me. I would name my kid Fighter, wouldn't you? Cid's okay, if you change the C to a S. And I wouldn't name a kid Zidane, but whatever makes you feel good inside. I don't know if I'd use any of the others, I guess I'll be back here later.
Just so you know, I was listing names in general, that isn't a list of names I'd use in real life. That's why I said feel free to add to it.

Guy is a real name, so it should probably be moved to "names you certainly can use." I think it might be French. I named one of my cats, Vivi, but it's not a name for a human.
It is a good name for an owl
-Harry Potter the Black Mage
One should never use the pathetic names Cecil and Seymour. I believe they are the weakest names in the English language. I once knew a kid named Cecil, he got his ass kicked a lot - by me. Crybaby.
Hmm...I like the name Shara for my Daughter. Sounds pretty cool! I also will never name my boy Cid because that name just Sickens me!
Fran is the shortened version of a Spanish (not really sure) name, Francisca
Jorge 17:21, 18 November 2007 (UTC) I don't care how many odd looks I got, I would name my kid Gilgamesh. Not only does he kick ass in FF, but he was also badass in his Mythological tale. BEST NAME EVER!!!
There's always Faris' real name, Sarisa. I like the sound of it.

There's a blond guy (long blond, not spikey blond :D) in the year below me who is called Cloud. He's too old to have been named after Cloud, Cloud; but why would you name a child Cloud? I have issues with this, and it's hard not to laugh when i call him in the corridors; sometimes I do it just because i think it's funny. Names I would consider:
| |||
Well, I know a girl called Yvalis.
(EDIT CONFLICT):One of my sister's name is Leila oh and Leila Ali, it's real. I would name my daughter Ashe or Fran.
Josef is how you spell Joseph here in Scandinavia, so as far as "conventional spelling" goes... And Yang Fang is perfectly suitable name if you're Chinese, so that's kind of insulting, I guess :P Like Azul said, Leila is also totally legit. I think the Beatles (or one of the members from the Beatles) wrote a song with Leila in the title. Gilgamesh is also a real name (if you're from Iraq), but would probably get you kids ass kicked (no matter where you're from). But I'll most likely try something a bit more original, since I feel sorry for all the kids whose parents thought it was "great idea" to name them after a character (Legolas from LotR).
Ericrvjr 00:47, 19 November 2007 (UTC): I think that if I have a daughter, her first and middle will be Ashelia B'nargin. Call me crazy, but I think she'll be able to get attention.
Call me crazy, but I think she'll be able to get attention. She'll also be in for a life of "Sorry, how do you spell/pronounce that?" Josef is how you spell Joseph here in Scandinavia I did not know that. I have learnt something today, and it's only been an hour. Also, it would appear Leila can be moved up to real names. That defiantly means that FFII has the most normal names for its cast.
I spell my name like that so it's here in the states too.
If I lived on EEUU, britain, scotland or places like those i would gladly call my daughters Leyla and the I have just forgot the other name
I don't see anything wrong with Reddas (at least, the English version), so long as it's either used for a Welsh child or spelt as its pronounced. --77.99.30.226 01:13, 20 November 2007 (UTC)

Am I the only one who really likes the name Yuna? I think its an excellent girl's name. In fact its probably the best name in all of FFX.

I think we can all agree to call our children "Garden Master Norg". That won't cause them to have a horrible life, no way.
if you don't add the "garden master", you actually destroy his life

How about Garland? It's a kind of flower, and people name their kids after flowers all the time. And are we counting characters from spin-offs, like Kingdom Hearts?
Jorge 14:45, 21 November 2007 (UTC) If we are counting spin-offs, Then claim the name Roxas for my son. That name has I nice ring to it.

I count KH as a spinoff, and Kairi Jade is my sister's name. Here's a little fun fact, Kairi means isolated.
Here's another fun-fact, Kairi also means beaver (the animal...). To add to the Yuna thing, I think one of the artists who sang an opening or ending to the anime, BLEACH, is named Yuhna.
I think gogo is a japanese name. In Kill Bill the killer school girl's name is gogo.
How about Ashley from Vagrant Story (though it sounds femine for me)
Ashley is a unisex name, it's perfectly fine for both a boy and girl.

What makes it a spinoff? It has FF characters in it? Would you say the Mana series is a spinoff? How about SMRPG? Or SoE?

SMRPG: Super Mario RPG (game had the same concept as KH) and SoE is Secret of Evermore (cameoed Cecil, Terra, Locke, Mog, Strago, and Umaro)
I think KH and those others are spin-offs. They don't have anything to do with the story lines in the main FF games.

You contradicted yourself; a spinoff is a game that has something in common with another game, not one that doesn't. The only non-Final Fantasy, Final Fantasy spinoff in my eyes is Vagrant Story, as it is featured in Ivalice, and has at least some measure of basis in the Ivalician timeline. As such, this game can be considered Cannological; it is story-concious, it does not change something we know to be true of the Final Fantasy story as a whole. A cameo cannot be considered Canon in the sense that the character is out of thier actual plain of existance; Cloud in Tactics was explained because of a "rift" in dimensions (but Cloud is Cloud. Regardless, Tactics is a main game, not a spinoff), but his character itself does not change. Cloud's (and the rest of the FF cast's) appearance in Kingdom Hearts 1 and 2 are not canon for the simple reason that they are not who they are built up to be in thier respective stories: YRP, although being shit in X-2, were not fairies. Kingdom Hearts is not a spinoff, it is a game in its own right; it simply features CAMEOS of Final Fantasy characters. I don't understand how I can possibly make this anymore clear; for one thing the game is not called FINAL FANTASY (ironic, as VS is not, but is in my mind, still a spinoff), so it is outside of this debate anyway! In fact, even Vagrant Story should not be being considered in this sense as we were asked about FINAL FANTASY names not RANDOM POTENTIAL SPINOFFS OF FINAL FANTASY names.
Diablos, you should put Beowulf in the May be able to use area, because my dad was actually going to name me that, but my mom talked him out of it :).
