UPDATE: The text color has been changed to black.

According to the web accessibility standards recommended by the W3C, the background color of the FFXIIIa class would have a better contrast ratio with black text than with white. I would like to petition for such a change in the global CSS of the wiki. Questions and comments are welcome :). —ProtonZero [talk] 02:28, October 29, 2011 (UTC)

I prefer the white one..the black is a bit too dark.Clarent-text 02:50, October 29, 2011 (UTC)

I like white too. --BlueHighwind 04:22, October 29, 2011 (UTC)

An intermediate "outline" style is now provided; continue questions and comments with this in mind as an alternative. If you cannot see the outline, please say so.ProtonZero [talk] 04:51, October 29, 2011 (UTC)

I added white outline with the black text. Clarent-text 05:40, October 29, 2011 (UTC)

I'm hoping for some executive comments on the matter... Aesthetically, I prefer solid black and black-outline (the latter possibly because all game text in XIII uses such a style). —ProtonZero [talk] 19:33, October 29, 2011 (UTC)

I have raised this issue before. I struggle to see the white text on light blue backgrounds because of my eyes. I'm not colour-blind, but I do have difficulties with light and dark contrasts, for example I see dark brown as black, and light cream as white. I can just about see the FFXIIIa text, but only just. I don't understand why it wasn't changed to black text before. Jeppo (Talk | contribs) 19:41, October 29, 2011 (UTC)

This is precisely the reason that I brought it up. This isn't about "well I like black better" (though I do), it's about "some people legitimately have difficulty reading it and would benefit from the text color being changed". That's why web accessibility standards were made. —ProtonZero [talk] 19:48, October 29, 2011 (UTC)

Now I prefer the white text with black outline (if it is going to be changed, that is. I'm totally fine with the way it is). It stands out more than the others.Clarent-text 20:05, October 29, 2011 (UTC)

I prefer we keep it the way it is. I don't think it needs to be changed. Koharu Nami 20:10, October 29, 2011 (UTC)

Use a slightly darker blue, or black text. Using outlines will just make it inconsistent with everything else, and leaving it as it is means that we have the problem of it being hard to read. Having content is nice, but it being readable should be kept in mind. 79.69.204.191 20:14, October 29, 2011 (UTC)

It's perfectly readable the way it is. I've never had a problem with the visibility. Koharu Nami 20:21, October 29, 2011 (UTC)
You are not 100% of our viewerbase. "I have raised this issue before. I struggle to see the white text on light blue backgrounds". If one person (that isn't entirely blind) has an issue, then the wiki can assume that others have the issue, and we should make a change that both does not make it any less readable to those who can read it anyway and makes it readable who those who currently cannot. The wiki should aim to make it accessible to as many people as possible. 79.69.204.191 20:26, October 29, 2011 (UTC)
Well, does anyone else have a problem with the colors? Are they not visible? Because if one person can't see it, that doesn't mean we have to change it entirely, either. We need a few more people who have the same problem in order to change something that's been the same for years. SquallRocks FFXIII - Sprite-MadLightning20:40, October 29, 2011 (UTC)
Our users are a small percentage of people that use the wiki. The userbase can only represent the people that view the wiki, and Jeppo finding it difficult to read (and him not being the only person since someone actually took their time out to bring up this topic) shows that a fair amount of viewers have problems.
But regardless, are you really saying we should let some of our content be barely readable to one person, to save us from changing it, when changing it will cause no problem for those who can already read it? We should aim to be accessible to the greatest amount of people, and we care currently not doing that while some people find it difficult to read the FFXIIIa class. 79.69.204.191 20:45, October 29, 2011 (UTC)

I'm speaking up to say yes, I do too have trouble reading the white text on blue background. I'm exactly with JBed here, those of you who do not have a problem reading the white on blue do not represent our entire userbase. And who is to say one person can't constitute the catalyst for making a change? If those of you without eye problems can read black on blue as well as you can read the white on blue, and if one person speaks up that they have trouble reading the white on blue, then what argument is there for keeping status quo, especially that it's been shown that the black on blue has a better contrast ratio, and therefore easier to read? - +DeadlySlashSword+ 20:50, October 29, 2011 (UTC)

I wouldn't mind, but it would only take one edit to the css. It's not like we have to change every single occurrence of the FFXIIIa class like we would have to have done a couple of years ago. Jeppo (Talk | contribs) 20:59, October 29, 2011 (UTC)

Why are you attacking me? I just stated my opinion. My opinion does not represent the entire userbase of the Wiki; it is my opinion. Is there such thing as a wrong opinion? No. There is a problem, and we should fix it, yes. If we need to change it to make it accessible, let's change it. All I did was state my opinion on why I felt like we didn't need to change it. I also think that the black is less classy, if you really want to know. But I'm OK with changing; I don't have a problem.SquallRocks FFXIII - Sprite-MadLightning21:03, October 29, 2011 (UTC)

You were not being attacked at all. Your viewpoint was being challenged. If you can't take people disagreeing with you then you should never have stated your opinions in the first place. We're not an oppressive people, and everyone should be entitled to their opinion. But if you want to openly state your opinion you should expect people to disagree and expect it your opinion to be challenged. 79.69.204.191 21:07, October 29, 2011 (UTC)

Please stay on topic. The two choices at this point are, clearly stated:

  1. White text: Those with proper vision can read, those with vision impairments have difficulties.
  2. Black text: Those with proper vision can read, those with vision impairments have an easier time.

Questions and comments? —ProtonZero [talk] 21:43, October 29, 2011 (UTC)

Hm, we never really tend to stay on topic, do we? - +DeadlySlashSword+ 22:06, October 29, 2011 (UTC)

If some people can't see it well, then we must change it.Keltainentoukokuu 00:08, October 30, 2011 (UTC)

I personally see absolutely no issue with the status quo and I don't believe this change is as much of an improvement as some users make it sound. It is certainly better, but the current state is definitely not unreadable. - Henryacores^ 00:48, October 30, 2011 (UTC)

It is obviously difficult to read for people who have just posted. The arguments for the white text have been made for aesthetics, whereas people who prefer the black legitimately have problems seeing the text as it is now. We should change it to black, then. 8bit 00:50, October 30, 2011 (UTC)
Agreed. The white text looks better to me as well, but we should not compromise aesthetics for function if the two are in conflict. Doreiku Kuroofangu 02:39, October 30, 2011 (UTC)

So to sum up the arguments:

  1. I CAN'T SEE!
  2. But it's pretty!

I'm on the side of letting people see the content, and the black doesn't look bad on my end, and it seems most people agree black is the best option. I'm going to call this enough reason to change it to black. Bluestarultor Best-of Stellar Arena sigicon BSA 15:18, October 30, 2011 (UTC)

Yeah, but for me, black is too dark. Whit is okay. White with black outline is the best.Clarent-text 21:08, November 4, 2011 (UTC)
