(I'm sorry if this is messy, I'm still getting the hang of the text formatting and etc. here.) Because I don't often spend a whole lot of time in Final Fantasy fan communities, I personally can't really accurately gauge how common this knowledge is, but there was a fourth Final Fantasy in development for the NES at the same time as the development of the SNES game we now know as Final Fantasy IV (originally numbered V). It's been mentioned in interviews that this Final Fantasy IV was its own unique entry in the series, rather than being simply an earlier stage in the development of the game that would ultimately come to hold that title. However, to my knowledge, there is no mention of the cancelled game on this Wiki. Perhaps I've just overlooked something, but last I checked, no relevant article makes reference to it, nor does it appear to have its own article. (Understandable, considering next to nothing is known of the game itself.) All that is known about it- or rather, all that can be gleaned from what has been said about it in interviews- is... ∙ It was a different project from the Final Fantasy IV that did get released. ∙ It was cancelled in order to focus funding and personnel efforts on the SNES project. ∙ It was around 80% completed as of its cancellation. ∙ Elements of the game were allegedly incorporated into future entries. Although I don't feel confident listing it as something known about the game, since it's really just conjecture, I also feel that it's highly unlikely that the game was refurbished for later release as of the end of the SNES/Super Famicom era, due to the fact that, when asked about it during an interview about the then-upcoming Final Fantasy VI, Sakaguchi expressed regret that it was not able to be finished and released, and his response did not give any indication that any further developments pertaining to the game had taken place since the announcement of its cancellation. While there does exist an alleged preview of the game (complete with a mock-up screenshot), the accuracy of the information it contains is dubious at best, as it was said by a representative of Square to be mere speculation. What I'm wondering is, would it be appropriate to incorporate this game and what is known about it into the content of this Wiki, and if so, how? For lack of better familiarity with the system, I'll list my sources for information on the game here, although please feel free to point out a better way of listing them. I'm sure there is one.
