Lately I've been doing a bit of research on what seems to be known as the infamous FFX-2. I'm wondering whether I should get it or not and I was hoping some people could help answer a few questions. 1. Is X-2's story as terrible as the characters are? I hear that Yuna and Rikku's characters are completely screwed up but is the story itself awful as well? 2. This could be a rumor, but I hear that the whole Tidus and Yuna reuniting at the end is optional. Is it? X ended really, really, really, really well and that whole bringing Tidus back to life thing sounds like it would really ruin the original story. 3. Is the gameplay any good? Most people criticize the characters and plotline but is the actual combat decent because it looks really good. 4. How much singing am I actually going to have to endure? I know there is a song in the opening but how much more is there? 5. I've heard a lot of criticizm towards Yuna and Rikku but is Paine any good? I know this sounds random and completely out of the blue but I don't want to look into the game if it's going to ruin the plotline of Final Fantasy X itself because I uphold that as one of the three greatest Final Fantasies ever. Anyway, question 1 is the question I care the most about so I'd appreciate it if someone could get back to me with some answers, thanks =D.
Going with story, yea it sorta just nullifies all the good stuff in X. X was about making sacrifices, if X-2 is just getting back sacrifices, what have you learned? nothing, thats what you learned. Otherwise, the battle system is reminiscient of FFXII yet a little different. i think that each time you encounter an enemy, it goes into that seperate "arena" type of area of battle system.but yea, i heard the battle system is pretty good, despite the story being so abysmally contradictive to the first game. if you have the extra moneys and you're just kupo for final fantasy, get it if you want.
The gameplay is in my opinion the only thing good about the game. 1. Garment Grids were a bit pointless because switching jobs in battle for a few powerups wasn't usually worth it. 2. The minigame, which I have forgotten the name of was fun, but extremely boring after a few rounds. 3. The mission system felt a lot like FFTA's mission system, which was bad. 4. You forgot to mention the music. The music was one of the things I hated most about the game. There isn't that much singing, but muting the game would be a good idea anyway. It was just a really boring game, even after ignoring some of the bigger defects like the music and the characters.

FFX2 is good for fan service; nothing more. |
FFX-2 was da bomb! I really don't see anything bad with it. 1.The story line is great too. You get to see Yuna but she's not so quiet and meek any more. She picked up some of Tidus' attitude. 2.SPOILER ALERT, DON'T READ IF YOU DON'T WANT TO RUIN THE STORY: Tidus does return! but you have to meet certain requirements (100%) and there is an explaination for his return, you'll see, I don't want to ruin too much END SPOILER. 3. and 5.Paine, AWSOME! Gameplay AWSOME! 4.There are two songs in the game; Real Emotion (opener), and 1000 Words (concert). You also have to listen to Yuna, Rikku, and Paine sing but only for a little bit when using a certain attack while in the Songstress dressphere (which is useless and you should not use it, the dressphere that is). Overall this game is really good and when you're finished with FFX you should buy FFX-2 and play it and you will be amazed at how such a critisized game is actually pretty cool!
Meh, the only thing I really like about this game is the title theme song, Eternity ~memories of the lightwaves~. THAT's ALL. I hate the mission system, it's like they're ripping it from FFTA, and I dislike how the story becomes and all. But I guess everyone have their own tastes. I have no offense to those who like or love X-2, but me personally agreed with everyone else who hate it.

What the hell?! Where have I been?! Anyway, I liked Yuna and all in X but if you ask me, there's no reason at all for her not to change that much in X-2. In fact, I liked her BETTER in X-2. I mean, she WAS good and all in X but let's face it: she didn't seem to know how to have fun. And imagine if you were in her shoes. I mean, you're gonna die and all, then suddenly, your faith is just shattered, and then you did the very thing you'd been aiming to do, except that you didn't die. So then of course you must've been relived and happy. And as for Rikku, her personality is the same and what's wrong with her outfit? It's what you's wear too if you lived out in the middle of the desert. Anyway, by reading my userpage, you will know that I LOVE FF X-2. And to think I came so close to being unable to get it. My copy was the very last one in the building, perhaps even the whole of Singapore. *shudders And Azul, the Songstress Dressphere IS useful. It was fundamental to my plan for defeating the Black Elemental in the Via Infinito, albeit late in the game. =D

I like X-2 (please don't kill me BH), the only thing I really hate about it is how the story is rushed towards the end.

Not really Nelo, because I know that its just random bullshit coming out of someone's mouth. Makes sense to them, but not to me. =D
I'll try to keep them in the same order.

I have significantly less angst towards FFX2 than I do towards FFX. Why? Final Fantasy X tried to be a real game but somehow fell way short. I don't know what I hated most: the mind numbing color, the cheery attitude permiated with death, the fact that they were fighting Sin, that someone might actually consider that a 'storyline', the most androgenous lead ever, the lack of any really stand-out characters, or the monster collection... What I did like about it. I liked Lulu's character design. I found Rikku strangely endearing. Blitzball was totally addictive. The ATB system was actually fairly engaging on 'wait'. All I have to get over to enjoy FFX2 is the fact that there is no serious storyline and that I am living in a world that is still brightly colored and one of the most rediculously gaudy ever. The sad fact remains that many of the costumes that represent the jobs in FFX2 are better designed than what everyone around them is wearing. Yeah, the're slutty, often, but then they do live in a tropical paradise and there's not a lot of reason to dress up (and no one else does). Did I mention FFX2 uses a job syste? Job system + tactic angel = usually the win. The only FF game that has so far failed at this equation is FFTA and thats largely to do with how to learn stuff rather than the job system being inherently bad. The ATB in FFX2 is severely engaging. I would say this is both its greatest benefit and one of the reasons I will not likely be playing it again. Its fun, but it just drains me after a while. I cannot sustain that enegy. The minigame is aweful. You manage blitzball... what a step backwards. The plot sucks. Hey, the world sucks. No change. Vegnagun may be the most uninspired end boss of all time, but he is actually harder than Sin, and more creatively named... so yeah. Its not as bad as people say it is. Most of the people here are just mad that they didn't to see Auron in a miniskirt.
thx for the feedback everyone. I'll probably pick it up try it at some point. While you've pretty much all said that the story is crap, is it crappy enough that it actually ruins what happens in FFX? The whole Tidus coming back thing doesn't sit well with me. It's like FFVII AC, it was cool but bringing back Rufus and Sephiroth back totally ruined their dramatic deaths. Maybe it's just me, I hate it when characters die dramatically and then you find out they escaped at the last second or were brought back to life (strangely you'd think based off that I would have hated ffiv but for some reason it didn't bother as much there.) Anyway, thanks again everyone, maybe i'll rent it for a little while and buy it if I like it. Haha, guess I should have thought of that in the first place, =).
