Description: A collabrative fanfic.
Story: A group of Drakenaer warriors, angry about their lot in life for various reasons, go out in search of remnants of their lost culture, hoping to reunite all Drakenear and reclaim their lands. To do this, they are tasked to find the legendary trio, who have the ability to summon the most powerful Drakenaer known as the Guardians of Nature. However, the Humes within the Empire hailing from the kingdom of Ithil seek to stand in their way out of fear more than anything else.
The World[edit source]
The world is mainly primative yet medival. Yet this is where many Drakenaer reside. It's basically like the Spyro series except the dragons can walk and wield weapons.
Races & Tribes[edit source]
Aside from humans, the world is populated by Drakenaer. All Drakenaer have a few features in common: most of their skin is somewhat leathery, similar in feel to the membranes of their wings. These wings can very in size but generally are equal in span to 1.5x their height (aside from Winglord tribe). Many also have scale covered tails that extend from the base of the back. More scales often cover their upper chest, shoulders and back, fore-arms, shins, and around their hair line. Physically, they are usually stronger than Humans. However, they were conquered due to a lack of organization.
List of Drakenaer Tribes[edit source]
- Noir: Characterized by blackish scales, noir drakenears are one of the more prevalent tribes within the species. They are highly balanced, with few truly memorable traits.
- Crimson: Marked by bright red scales, these drakenear comprise one of the more signature tribes. They tend to be volatile as a culture, originally living in a war driven meritocracy.
- Ornamented: This group is easily identified by their bright and ornate scale patterns on their chests. The males of this tribe can often be seen with their torso's exposed, showing off their ornate forms.
- Crested: The crested tribe is marked by a collection of loose skin flaps. These can be flared out to cause them to look larger, an ability used to ward off predators or scare other scavengers away from carrion.
- Pigmy: A diminutive tribe that resides in subterranean tunnels carved into the landscape. They usually sustain themselves on vegetables although have been known to scavenge meat. The often have excess hair to protect their skin, particularly hands and feet from rocks.
- Starlit: By comparison to other tribes, these drakenear have highly polished, multicolored scales. While the reason for this is not known, they are often described as resembling the night sky. It is possible that they are descendant of Winglords.
- Winglords: Another of those signature tribes, they are often said to be the former aristocracy. They are marked by glossy black scales and incredibly oversized wings. At one time, they lived in highlands and steep crags. They are one of the few races that can truly fly: they even have a forked tail with a leathery sheet between the tips for steering in the air.
- Camouflaged: One of the more predatory tribes, camouflaged drakenear have the ability to change the color patterns of their scales when they shed. These color patterns are mostly rigid and based on seasons of their environment. It is interesting to note that they seem to have some conscious control over this color change as some have been know not keep a particular pattern, even in seasons not normally associated with it.
- Nocturne: Another more predatory tribe, nocturne drakenear prefer to hunt at night. They tend to have pale skin and dark scales, have exceptional sight and hearing and physical traits that bolster their ability to reach prey undetected. Currently, they are met with fear and scorn by those not of the tribe. It is not known how far back this trend goes.
Outcaste[edit source]
Very rarely, a Drakenaer will be born without the ability to grow wings. This is seen as a disgrace, and the Drakenaer in particular is outcasted by their tribe and accepted into this one. Outcast Drakenaer resemble Humans the most out of all the tribes, as they don't have their wings and their tails - if they have them - are easier to hide. This makes them particularly useful. . . .

Suggestions[edit source]
Well, any suggestions?
I suggest the use of clockwork, to make things going. I dont think there'll be gunpowder or steam, but unless the fic goes full ye olde medieval, I suggest a bit of clockwork. (the fact that Leon Erasmus is a clocksmith have nothing to do with this... -.-) And I dont get how humans are, are they a united, dominant race that nearly control the world? Or are they as divided and disorganised as the Scales? Are they bigots? Or are they tolerant towards the dragon people?
Krystal Tomlin - ![]() ![]() TALK - 22:54, May 25, 2010 (UTC) - "Wouldn't wanna be you!"
I suppose a clockwork could work. As for the humans, I don't think all of them share the same hatred for the Scales. But for sure a vast majority of the humans do.
Drakenaer: Now in wiki-page[edit source]
Considering that the Drakenaer were originally my brainchild, I have established a paged dedicated to the race. User:Werefang/Creative/Drakenaer <= That would be it. :D Anyway, just thought you might want to look into it. By the way, please do not edit the page itself but rather the talk page. It's not in fact a canon species so edits will end up being about what would be better rather than what is right and that will lead to issues, I just know it.
Question[edit source]
A.J. two (The Flashlight) - "Always Avoid Alliteration" TALK - "When life gives you cherries, make a bomb." 16:45, May 13, 2011 (UTC)
Is this still around? I thought this was a really good idea, but nothing has been done with it for quite some time. Has it died without even starting?
Krystal Tomlin - ![]() ![]() TALK - 23:41, May 13, 2011 (UTC) - "Wouldn't wanna be you!"
Well, unfortunately I've been so busy (or lazy) with other things that I haven't really gotten around to it. :(
A.J. two (The Flashlight) - "Always Avoid Alliteration" TALK - "When life gives you cherries, make a bomb." 01:44, May 20, 2011 (UTC)
That's too bad. I remember how much I was looking forward to this, and then nothing was done and I forgot about it - until I went through my watchlist, that is. Well, what can you do? Maybe it'll start up later.
Krystal Tomlin - ![]() ![]() TALK - 03:50, May 20, 2011 (UTC) - "Wouldn't wanna be you!"
If more users would be willing to be part of my project, I'll see what I can do. We can of course each add five characters. Then again, I dunno if that would work or not.
A.J. two (The Flashlight) - "Always Avoid Alliteration" TALK - "When life gives you cherries, make a bomb." 04:31, May 20, 2011 (UTC)
looking at the sign=up list already, we have:
| |||
Krystal Tomlin - ![]() ![]() TALK - 04:40, May 20, 2011 (UTC) - "Wouldn't wanna be you!"
Ah, okay. I think I'll give it a go tomorrow. :)
A.J. two (The Flashlight) - "Always Avoid Alliteration" TALK - "When life gives you cherries, make a bomb." 17:48, May 21, 2011 (UTC)
But, as I was going to say before I had to get off and abruptly finish my comment, there's nothing against getting more people. There are some really good writers on the wiki that aren't a part of this story - that might not even know about it. While seven above is a good number, there are at least the same amount on the list that are currently inactive or are gone for now. It wouldn't be a bad idea to search out more writers. Mirror and Sorceror Nobody are good writers, and they might join if you ask them, but I'm not sure about anyone else. As a PS note, I'm sorry if it looks like I'm being mean and trying to push you to start your story; that's not what I'm trying to do.
Yo. Butting in here, but just commenting to say I'd be willing to re-join the project if its starting. Peace out V
Gems[edit source]
A.J. two (The Flashlight) - "Always Avoid Alliteration" TALK - "When life gives you cherries, make a bomb." 05:08, May 27, 2011 (UTC)
Will there be more gems, or will they stay at their current state of alternately-named XIII paradigms? Because there are a lot of different things that could be added, like, for example, a Blue Magic-type gem. Also, while I'm on that subject, will the battles in the story consist of only three characters actually combating, while the others can be switched into the "party" afterwards? :P
Krystal Tomlin - ![]() ![]() TALK - 05:22, May 27, 2011 (UTC) - "Wouldn't wanna be you!"
Hmmmm... I'll see if I can come up with another name for a Blue Mage (obviously not Gun Mage). You're talking job class gems, right? As for the party, it can go up to the minimum of five.
A.J. two (The Flashlight) - "Always Avoid Alliteration" TALK - "When life gives you cherries, make a bomb." 05:51, May 27, 2011 (UTC)
Yeah, because I remembered that there were a whole slew of other job class gems, like Aviator and Striker, but they were removed, I guess, when you transfered DS to the forum. I was just wondering if there were going to be any more, because it has the "more to come soon. . ." message below. I was making a joke (as referenced by the :P) because the job class gems seem like they are, as I stated, just the XIII paradigms with different names. But, at least I know now how many main characters there will have to be.
Structure[edit source]
A big question as to the structure of this: is this an actual story, or a roleplaying game? If it's the former, I would like to request that the abilities, weapons lists, paradigm gems etc are kept to a minimum. If it's the latter...I'd still like to request that, but there's not a great deal I can do about it.
Deadlyslashsword - +It takes disaster to learn a lesson, but you're going to make it through the darkest nights+ TALK - 07:43, May 27, 2011 (UTC) - Some people betray and cause treason...we're gonna make everything alright.
This will be an actual story. The list of abilities and such are merely for fun and will not impact the writing, as the others want to model a game. Though, I must ask out of sheer curiosity, why do you make such a request? I can't imagine you're thinking of rejoining.
Character writing[edit source]
Hi guys. When writing your characters, it would be good if you would go through this list (mentally; it doesn't have to written out).
The last two are important, as they will help determine your character's 'agency. Agency is an important and difficult thing to write, but it's crucial to making your character interesting. It's possible to write stories with characters that have little or no agency, but it's very difficult to pull it off convincingly - the lack of agency generally has to be point, as in Waiting for Godot (summary: two characters sit around, talk, wait for Godot. He doesn't arrive. Now do it again. Existentialism!). It would also be appreciated if you could write a short example of how you would like your character to be written, like so. It doesn't have to relate to the story, or be a Gaiden - just show the other writers how your character works. It's also good practice for communicating information about your character in a short amount of space without stating it outright. (Comments on Quill appreciated).
Feeling chatty?[edit source]
Hello; sorry, it's me again with these short segments. A little birdy has been whispering in my ear that some of you might have reservations about me joining the fic. I now understand that this was intended to be a work between friends, not open to absolutely everybody - or at least, you did not expect certain people to join. I'm also aware that I work on some sort of plane which is orthogonal to yours, or at least one which doesn't form a nice cross product. We don't really know what the other wants in the fic, or how to interact.
I don't want to spoil it for you, because it's quite probable that what I want in a story is very different from what you (generalised you, though I am thinking of a few people in particular) are thinking about, and though I think I'm one of the least intimidating people in existence (it's difficult to be scary when you weigh in at 46kg - barely 100 pounds for you Imperial thinkers), I wouldn't want you to just accept those because you are intimidated, or want to avoid the fuss, or simply because you think I know better about writing or whatever else the reason may be. This collaborative (note spelling!) fic was apparently more focused on two key creators, but I've gone in without knowing that and stomped over everything. What I'm building up to in this overly verbose manner of mine is that perhaps we should talk a bit: clarify what this fic is about in terms of atmosphere, collaboration and the like, air out any other misunderstandings, tell me what's (in)acceptable for interaction and generally, well, get to know each other better. If you do want to do this, then I'll hopefully be on the IRC at a bit past 23:00 UTC today (9am tomorrow for me; adjust your clocks accordingly), and we can open up a private channel to discuss it.
A.J. two (The Flashlight) - "Always Avoid Alliteration" TALK - "When life gives you cherries, make a bomb." 01:00, May 30, 2011 (UTC)
Since I can't go on IRC, I thought I'd voice my thoughts here. For one, I don't mind that you are in on this fanfic - or anyone here. I don't have anything against anyone here, and I wasn't around when ES and TC were going strong, so if you were in on those, I don't know. The point is, I don't have any problems with you being in on this, but I can't speak for anyone else, so I won't try intentionally. I don't know how good you can write, other than your prologue thingy for Quill, because I don't really want to go through all the old fan-fics (if you were a part of them, that is, which I'm not sure of), but you are probably a better writer than I am. So, I will listen to what you have to say - if that is against what you are saying above, than please point that out - but that doesn't mean that I won't put something of my own in there as well. There may be times where what we think doesn't match - I don't know what Cluna has in store for this, either; I'm just going with the flow and trying to piece everything together adn it comes along - but that doesn't mean that we can't find some sort of comprimise. Also, if this the whole talking thing is happening (or already happened), can you please post the conversation so I can read? I may get a better feel for what my part in the story is if I know what Cluna (and . . . NEO? I'm not sure who the other writer is you're referring to, but I can guess, probably pretty accurately) has in mind. Please and thank you.
I think a big reason why certain writers wouldn't trust you isn't because you're Yuan, but because you're foreign. You haven't gained their trust. Remember when Leon changed things up in ES and made Leon evil? Now he's on their hit list. Yuan, you don't have to worry about intimidatting anyone here, because you're a staffer or because you are popular. I would like to think no one cares who the user is, just as long as that person's writing is good.
A Question[edit source]
Why exactly was my name removed from the sign-up list? - 19:50, May 29, 2011 (UTC)
The sign-up period has ended (When? dunno). The team do not appear to want any more writers.
It would have been a bit helpful if somebody had put up a notice about the sign-up period ending before I put my name down. Thanks for the offer, but as much as I would like to be in this fanfic, I don't think that I would be able to take your spot away from you. - 22:12, May 29, 2011 (UTC)
There's now one more space left either way.
abilities[edit source]
A.J. two (The Flashlight) - "Always Avoid Alliteration" TALK - "When life gives you cherries, make a bomb." 23:42, May 30, 2011 (UTC)
Just a quick question, are the job classes for each character going to get their own subpage talking about them? Because, IMO, "[insert name here] uses this job class" doesn't really say anything about the class itself, and I don't think that the character page say enough about it either.
Krystal Tomlin - ![]() ![]() TALK - 23:57, May 30, 2011 (UTC) - "Wouldn't wanna be you!"
We just make up our own descriptions of the classes. For example, Kayle's class, Savage, depends on brute strength as well as inflicting status ailments. EDIT 23:58, May 30, 2011 (UTC): Btw, I fixed your template.
A.J. two (The Flashlight) - "Always Avoid Alliteration" TALK - "When life gives you cherries, make a bomb." 00:02, May 31, 2011 (UTC)
Okay, I wasjust making sure. I guess this came about as from Yuan's suggested IRC chat, so I don't know anything about the story really. Thanks Cluna, for both things.
Deadlyslashsword - +It takes disaster to learn a lesson, but you're going to make it through the darkest nights+ TALK - 02:05, May 31, 2011 (UTC) - Some people betray and cause treason...we're gonna make everything alright.
I'm taking it upon myself to keep the abilities page updated, but I can only do that when there is list of abilities that characters can use on their page, like Kayle and Ruriko have.
Cant Wait[edit source]
DarkShuyin24: hey its me DarkShuyin, you probably dont remember me but i have been in other fanfics here and i cant wait to see how this story turns out im eager to read it. PS:I dont know what happened to my userpage i cant find it, thats why im not using my chatbox.
Is it too late for me to join?[edit source]
Since you're being ignored I'll answer; yes, it is. Also welcome back.
Ahh! Ninja![edit source]
Been away a while. Busy reading...a lot. Seven books over the past several weaks... I have no life. Anywho, something I noticed about AJ2's character was the hybrid. No offense to anyone, but I am against inter species hybridizing. In RL, different species cannot reproduce; that's what makes them different species (though in rare cases you'll end up with a Mule if they are similar enough). But that just me being anal (again). That isn't to say she's a bad character. On the contrary, I think she's a remarkably good character from what I've seen, including a surprisingly well implemented facet to the hybrid status. And I'm not just sayin' that 'cause she's got a crush on Carin. ^,..,^

NeoBahamutZEROX - TALK - 04:20, June 5, 2011 (UTC)
I think he been working on changing that, if you have time like to discuss more with us about DS you can come to the IRC, it just easier to do that there.
Ornamented and Starlit...[edit source]
SilverCrono — 02:14, September 4, 2011 (UTC) "Ah, what can we do, but let our troubles float away...?"
I'm not really seeing a difference between the two. Merge into Starlit, or am I missing something?
