I was wondering, what is your favorite gameplay system in FF main series (FFI-FFXII), and tell me the reason? I choose FFXII, because we just have to watch thenm fight because they were set with gambits, so we'll just have to use analog and walk. They still use 'time' systems, but it isn't boring because we can watch them taking positions to fight. ^^ Best regards from Red-yellow-striped-apple.
FFX. I like the fact that you can take you time, and that speed actually counts in it, unlike the other Turn-based games. And FFXII is a close second, Gambits make it a game for the extremely lazy, which I am.

Screw gambits. I'm too lazy to figure out how to use them, and they're completley useless to me. With that being said, I do think XII has the best battle system, with ATB in second place.
I agree with Cloud of Darkness, X with his mix between ATB and turn-based is best for me. If you like real-time-like though, XII seems the best. Problem is that at the end of the game, you nearly do nothing except when facing Yiazmat and other superbosses. ATB is nice too, but it's a little frustrating sometimes : I won't tell how many times a character died right before my white mage cast Cure (though the said WM had his ATB gauge full)
FFXII without a doubt. It looked like a real battle, not some line-up row thing. Basically all the other battle systems were the same thing with a different coat of paint. Turn-based is turn-based, and it gets BORING after eleven years. Also the speed of the fighting in FFXII is exactly what this series needed. The fights went fast, but when you went into the menus time helpfully stopped. Gambits were okay, not nearly as complicated as people make them out to be, on the dull side for me. FFXIII's battles look even better, though its way to early to call that one.
I actually think the battle system in X-2 was the best don't kill me. I don't like XII because my Gambits completed the game for me, I could just walk up to Vayne and Penelo and Co. would do the rest.

X-2, hands down. X comes in a distant second.
XII, because of no random encounters, customization, and the gambit system. 71.222.106.12 23:07, 26 January 2009 (UTC)
FFXII, because it's real time. Gambit's nice and real simple, it helps makes jobs and specialties for the characters. And the fact that you cant put an infinite gambits means there are still times you gotta sweat your hands and do things manually. Liscence board's great too
FFX got me into FF overall. But my favorite is (Don't laugh if I tell you!) FFII. Way too much sense in a FF game.

FF XII is the best game in the series and might even be the greatest game ever made (Although the original Spyro was close) The battles were quick and smooth and the gambits idea was brilliant. The best thing about it though was the fact that Square finally got rid of the Random Battle system that has been overused to the point where you dread the sound of the overworld map music dieing and the battle screen popping up.
ATB is cool, but I hate those random encounters after playing XII. X had a nice idea, but after XII it's not that cool. And now when I play VII for the first time, I really miss X. But still, if there'll ever be VII remake, I say no to real-time battles. It's different game then, not a remake. Kupuntu 13:08, 28 January 2009 (UTC)
- If they were just going to remake FFVII, they might as well do a direct port on the DS and not even bother doing a graphical overhaul. It could be programmed in a week, and shipped out in a month. No, FFVII is an old game, and it needs to be upgraded. At the very least, no more random battles. And hopefully some kind of real-time battle system, since those are always better than turn-based. Always. --BlueHighwind 13:20, 28 January 2009 (UTC)
Crazyswordsman - Final Fantasy VI, because Drake says he wants to link to FF7 every day, which is bad because that game is so far inferior to FF6. TALK - 02:53, 29 January 2009 (UTC)
Like I always said, take the battle system of FFX-2, put it in about 95% of other scenarios, and you have the best game of all time.
Rethinking about it, I agree with CSM. But, having actually liked X-2, I think it needs like only 80% ^^
