Since FFV we haven't seen an armored villain with a cape, except for maybe Gabranth, I personally like them better in desing, which do you people like best?

Lets see here The armoured villans are: Garland(FF1), The Emperor(?), Golbez, Exdeath, Garland (FF9), Gabranth, Mydia/Judge of Wings. I think thats it for the armoured ones
Gabranth, because his armors are not oversized, detailed and actually makes noises when moving

I personally hate it when I can't see a villains face. Hell, I still want to know what Garland and Exdeath look like under their helmets.

Well for me, I kind of have a thing for characters in armor, it just gives them that feeling of mysticism, power and mystery, but most of the time the unarmored villains are more evil, and have more personality, for example Kefka, Sephiroth and Kuja. But in the way the look like, I like some of the armored villains better. I love how Garlans looks in Dissidia, like really menacing and Dark Knight-ish, Golbez has the cool black armor with horns and spkies and disproportionate shoulders... that I love, Exdeath has some of the coolest armor I've ever seen on a video game, in color and structure, and Gabranth has that Ivalice look that looks cool too. Out of all of them, I'd have to say Golbez is my favorite in personality, Exdeath in looks and powers (although Golbez has some cool moves in Dissidia). Whoa, I talk a lot.

The problem with the armored villians is that they were (almost) all in the early games, had no character development, and little backstory (with the exception of Golbez and maybe Exodus). Can't look to Dissidia for that becuase it's a spin-off, not canon. It's kinda like Kingdom Hearts, or the Elseworlds comicbooks. The unarmored villians all had more story (except for the Cloud Of Darkness and Ultemicia), and actually had their own motivation (well, for the most part). Gabtanth is the only armored villian to have a real personality other than "crazy killer who wants to rule/destroy/enslave the world." Face it, any villian before seven had virtually no backstory and no motivation (this does not mean that every villian in seven or after it did, certainly Sephiroth had no real reason to kill everyone on the planet, in that way, he's a lot like Kefka or Exodua).
I personally liked Garland's look in Dissidia, and i liked Golbez' look, but not Exdeath's. Gabranth's was cool, as like every other guy in FFXII. :D

EDIT CONFLICT Darky:Well, I like all villains (yes, even ultimecia and mateus), just some better. But I think Armored villains should be used more often, at least with a new formula, like Gabranth.
I personnaly agree with DSD, armored villains have that problem we don't see their face (but Golbez in DS remake). Gabranth is apart from them, and is the only kind of armored villain I would support. I mean, a villain we don't know anything about, I don't like that. Why does Garland become Chaos ? Yes, that stupid trick of die and be born again to live forever, but that's not enough. He isn't obliges to destroy the world in the process, nor to kidnap Sara (that's the worst part in the plot). And why does ExDeath want to return the world to nothingness ? He is a wizard, if I have understood well, and I don't understand the point. If there's no world, he can't live either. I mean, CoD wanted to destroy it because it's her primary function, ExDeath… Dunno. Golbez, it's fuzzy until the flshbacks in DS release, where we learn he was angry about losing his parents and Zemus took profit of it. Gabranth is different, he has decided to serve a cause, the Archadian Empire's, and is devoted to Larsa. That kind of villain fit with FF, which is still a game where no detail is random and the universe is deeply fashioned to make a whole. The new version of Golbez too. The two other… No. The other problem about armored villain is that it's become a cliché. And the designers want to avoid cliché. Look in Dissidia : 4/11 Chaos char are armored villain. The same way, 5/11 have no weapons and use only magic. FF needs something else that armored villain or evil wizard. Even Seph, simple human with a sword, is not that cliché when you look at the others. And that's only in Dissidia. That's my point about it : I don't mind armored villains if they have a personality, but still I think some other ideas can be found. And it's also valuable about heroes. Every of the main series FF include thief, mages, but we had to wait IX for a hero to be a thief and VI for a hero to be a mage. I think that, with over 100 different jobs in the whole series, the designers can have some good ideas. Sorry, I realised I wrote a lot ^^'
