"Appearances counter" refers to "how many appearances something has" and the method of doing it. Since most recurring things use a number for the counter to achieve.

Now, I've been telling people that Dissidia and D012 count as one appearance towards a recurring ability and two appearances towards an equipment piece. This is not wrong, this is what we do.

But I'm not sure I agree what what we do.

I think Dissidia and D012 should always count as one appearance.

I think there needs to be discussion about how FFIV, the Interlude, and TAY works. In the same way, XIII and XIII-2 are practically the same game in terms of enemies, right?

Does an appearance as an enemy in any game always count as an appearance? We currently have a policy that says three enemy appearances in a sub-series is enough for an article. I believe the FFIV series has a lot of them because they all use the same enemies. Do we want this to count?

I don't think anyone will deny that the core-four VII games are all unique enough that we don't have a problem treating each as their own appearance. They all take something from the other games, but each game uses different models (CCVII borrows a bit from DoC, only in terms of NPCs I think). But then do we want to work on it case-by-case, or do we just want to say that an appearance in every game of a sub-series still counts as one appearance? And let sub-series policies do the talking for creating repeated occurrences within one?

And while FFX borrows all its models, I know for a fact that the abilities and equipment are completely re-done, so I don't see why these two shouldn't be the same (is that XIII-2 do the same thing? without renaming all the enemies?).

Also see Scope that has relevant things maybe.

FFVII Cait Sith Battle

... Yes, you're right, each entry to the IV series does have a small selection of unique enemies.

But I'm fairly sure TAY was built from FFIV. Without all the coding, but with all the sprites.

Compare the three IV games to the four VII games. Recurring IV enemies do not show any significant, unlike in the VII games. You think the rules that we used to allow Guard Hound be an article should apply to each enemy who appears in all three IV games?

"Each game counts as an appearance"

Which has almost never been the case for Dissidia (I'm even doubting that they have always being treated separately for equipment to be true). I'm sure you know that, but there is a reason we usually treat them as one appearance. 79.69.192.100 16:59, September 27, 2012 (UTC)

I don't think Dissidia and 012 should count as one appearance, because some pieces of equipment differ in what they do in the game, so they both get a mention as two different things, just with different names. Tia-LewiseRydia - Young battle 19:05, September 27, 2012 (UTC)

Just read the bit above. I am indeed a derp. Tia-LewiseRydia - Young battle 19:06, September 27, 2012 (UTC)
