Not really happy at the moment. While I respect that the users on this wiki that have earned the position of Administrator, or Moderator, I disagree with the notion that having a position such as this means that your opinion is more important than someone elses, or that you can tell anyone to do anything. Obviously, certain things, admins can tell people what and what not to do, but I've seen cases of this, off wiki, where these positions are being used inappropriately, namely by a "RichardIII" on the IRC chat today (I have an IRC log saved, if requested). My view is clear. Being a mod/admin does not mean you are better than everyone else, and I believe that this notion is one that must be stamped out rapidly.

Are we even sure this guy is really a mod? Any jackass can come on the IRC with a name that doesn't match a wiki user and claim to be a mod here.
I'm not really sure, but he acted like one. If he's not, it's not really an issue, I know of other instances of this sort of behaviour from other users
Ecdit conflict: To paraphrase Jimbo Wales "Being an sysop is not a big deal". To a certain extent, admins here have more responsibility and authority, but their opinions are not automatically better or more important. They enforce what the community sees as the best course of action.
On a side note, which mod did this Richard person identify as?
I agree that Admins/Mods have more trust than regular editors, they wouldn't have the tools they have if they didn't have the trust of the community. Not sure about "authority" though, that can easily be misinterpreted as jurisdiction, which by extension makes some people think, in their own way, that they have authority over users i.e. Attitudes like that are something that should be stamped out. Being a moderator and/or an admin shouldn't be a license to display this sort of behavior, nor does it make your opinion better than someone else's.

We have no mods called Richard, and I don't think any of ours go by that name at any time. I think it's just a random guy. That being said, the title of mod doesn't mean much anyway. It just means that the user has been here a while, has rollback, and is a trusted member of the community. If that Richard guy pops up and claims he's a mod again, show him to the staff page and ask who he is. If I ever catch someone with such an elitest attitude, or I find out that really was a mod, well that member can kiss their privelages good-bye. I've been wanting to decrease the number of mods anyway.
I hope that all our Staff members have the culture to quote from Shakespeare properly and not use the faux cliched crap like Dick 3 was using up there. PS: Diablo, I know a way you can decrease the number of mods.... =)

I agree with Steve (sorry, but I have no clue who you are) because whenever something big happens, they're always the first to know or get asked of their opinions. But the notion that being a Mod means you can tell everyone what to do needs to stop.
To ^, I'm reasonably new here, so not well known ^_^. This thread's intention wasn't really to get someone "burnt at the stake" so to speak, but more to raise awareness that this sort of behavior is going on, and the possible consequences, as Diablo pointed out. What I really want is for this to act like a wiki, where we can all edit collaboratively. We really don't need the "I'm a Mod, so I can tell you what to do/I'm a Mod, I'm better than you etc attitudes.
Not to be rude, but I could say I was the Duke of the world, but that doesn't make it true. Also, Mods really aren't that powerful, they only have the rank and rollback.
