I was about to go and add the Lateral Bio Turks novel to the scope and create Template:VIILBT, but then I thought I would bring this up as a more general thing for discussion, because I don't think VIILBT is the only thing we're missing.

Immediately starting off with a non-novella, take Final Fantasy X: Eternal Calm. Tasgio is listed on Template:FFX but really Eternal Calm is its own independent story. It doesn't belong, like Last Mission (which we separate). So even if you were to make the argument "they're all listed on X template" this immediately isn't true.

But even if they were all on another template, I don't think it's the point. Even if an independent story takes all its locations and character from a previous title there is still reason people would want to navigate them in that specific release. Each story has characters, many are likely to also involve specified locations too. Then terms too. A translations page is to be had (do they sub audio dramas?). And honestly, perhaps that is it. But does that some how not make it worth a navigation? A nav with two links between related pages is enough in my mind.

We already cover the On the Way to a Smile collection-- HwMO exists as a class but is otherwise not well covered.

I feel we have two choices: Cover each release, or cover each release with an independent story. The latter just exists to rule out the novelisations of games.

So what do I think we need to add?

(also Final Fantasy: Unlimited with U and Final Fantasy: Unlimited on PC Adventure - Labyrinth have no excuse for being listed, but Japan games; and why not Dissidia Duodecim Prologus Final Fantasy? unless it's storylines are in D012 and really is just a uniquely named demo)

I don't recall there being anymore but there probably is. JBed (talk) 06:11, October 24, 2014 (UTC)

If no discussion occurs between now and November 4 I will be viewing this as no one disagreeing and therefore adding these titles to our scope. JBed (talk) 14:58, October 27, 2014 (UTC)

Oh cool, I'm just before the deadline! Maybe I'm oversimplifying this "issue" (?), but I don't think a novel is any less important than a movie, and we cover Advent Children in full with its own navbox. Assuming, as you said, that the novel does have an independent story, it should be treated with no less importance than AC is, ie, added to scope.
I think the reason for no discussion is just that there's nothing to really discuss.--Magicite-ffvi-ios Technobliterator TC 21:46, November 3, 2014 (UTC)
Progress: Template:HwMO and Template:FFXEC. JBed (talk) 18:14, November 7, 2014 (UTC)

Wait. We are going to make an infobox for novellas, right?--Magicite-ffvi-ios Technobliterator TC 01:10, November 4, 2014 (UTC)

Huh, yeah, not originally something I thought about but we don't seem to have one for some reason. They have release dates like any other (often French and German ones too). And they have writers, covers (most of the time), publishers, Japanese titles, and sometimes a publication found in too. JBed (talk) 18:14, November 7, 2014 (UTC)

Would mangas also get the infobox etc? We have Final Fantasy XII (manga), and a Type-0 manga exists but don't know if it has an article here. The FFXII one tells the story of the game but adds more lore and is slightly different take it seems.Keltainentoukokuu (talk) 20:39, November 7, 2014 (UTC)

They all get the infobox. Currently we don't give the II novelisation or the XII manga icons/navboxes because... with reason of needing an "independent story". Their content is based on the game so it's probably easier to handle them with the II and XII navbox/icon since the navboxes would end up identical, sans the gameplay info for the non-game.
There are differences, sure. I imagine it would be harder to convince people it's worth it. JBed (talk) 20:59, November 7, 2014 (UTC)
Yeah might be better like that. Currently characters and factions exclusive to the manga version are on the FFXII navbox. (Like Neo-Rozarria Faction)Keltainentoukokuu (talk) 21:16, November 7, 2014 (UTC)
