Next week, we are going to be deleting walkthroughs that have been deemed inactive (incomplete and not edited by the author in the past year). As we've never done a full scale purge before, there's a lot of walkthroughs that are on the cut list. 224 of them, to be exact. I advise all walkthrough-writing users to search that list for their username or any aliases they've used here, just in case we miss somebody when sending out warnings. If I've accidentally listed a finished walkthrough, please tell me and I'll remove it from my copy of the list.
If your walkthrough is on the list but you want to keep it, there are two things you can do;
- Edit the walkthrough. This'll reset the timer giving you another year. Although if you do this, please try to edit it more than once a year.
- Move the walkthrough to the userspace. Userspace walkthroughs have no rules about inactivity, although when you do finish it'll have to be moved back to walkthroughspace before it is added to the master list.
A period of one week seems too short for me, considering the volume of man hours some of these walkthroughs must have taken, however abandoned they might be at the moment. I sugest giving at least a two-week notice; honestly, I'd give the authors a whole month.
I have updated the list so it's sorted by username and gets rid of some useless comments and stuff that was deleted for different reasons. The warnings will be sent out shortly. It will likely be more than a week before walkthroughs on the list are deleted, but please try to be ready before then. -- Some Color Mage ~ (Talk) 06:40, November 26, 2013 (UTC)
I agree with this. Too many just abandon their walkthroughs, me included :P but mine got deleted a while ago.
So Wagnike2, Uppfinnarn, CylindrusAtlum, Kelt, and UltimateAnnhilation (X-2) have asked that their walkthroughs be deleted; UA (X) has been moved to userspace. Going to wait until the 4th before doing anything else.
It's been a week, but I'm not in the mood to do mass deletes at the moment, so you've got another day or two before I start clearing things out. -- Some Color Mage ~ (Talk) 05:18, December 4, 2013 (UTC)
For some reason my walkthrough isn't on the list, and I definitely haven't done anything with it for the past, what, 4 years? So, yeah, you can delete mine too.
I honestly don't mind either way. I have no plans to return to it anyway.
Alright, SCM and I have cleaned out the list. DSS, UltimateAnnihilation (X), and SN have requested that their walkthroughs not be deleted, so they weren't. I'm going to get the mess of broken redirects when the cache clears tomorrow night (if the cache clears <_<). And next time, maybe we should purge abandoned walkthroughs more regularly. Anyone who wants their walkthrough to be undeleted, feel free to ask an admin. The vast majority of the deleted walkthroughs, though, were blank pages, so I don't expect too much of that.*grumbles something about being too lazy to study biochemistry and goes back to sleep*
OK, we have finished clearing things out. I'd just like to say, that going through some of those walkthroughs is a harrowing situation, either due to bad coding resulting in infinite template loops or other horrific things or the fact that some users seem to get this idea that they can be the next BlueHighwind then just go on to make rape/discriminatory jokes. Don't do either of those please, the first is annoying (if you notice something bizarre happening with your coding, please just tell us) and the second carries a high risk of bans.
Not to be nitpicky, but shouldn't SN's walkthrough be moved so that his name comes first? Because right now it's like it's a subpage of a user named Walkthrough :p --Shockstorm 06:18, December 9, 2013 (UTC)
- Yeah, two walkthroughs of his need to be fixed up. I'll ask Cat about getting his bot to fix that up tomorrow. -- Some Color Mage ~ (Talk) 08:49, December 9, 2013 (UTC)
Here's an interesting walkthrough (it's just one article, but technically covers the entire game :p). If it's kept, shouldn't "Yet Another Walkthrough" be replaced with the author's username, along with removing "/Rundown" from the title, since there's no main page for it? --Shockstorm (talk) 09:02, December 16, 2013 (UTC)
