Foobar is an undead/Flan-type enemy in Final Fantasy XII found in the Slumbermead region of the Nabreus Deadlands, and in the battle against Cúchulainn in both Garamsythe Waterway and in Zodiac versions' Trial Mode in Stage 42. After Cúchulainn is defeated, Foobars keep spawning where the boss was fought, making for a good farming location for the Foobars' spoils.

Foobar is the easiest mob to farm for Sagittarius Gems, which can be sold to the bazaar to unlock the original version's ultimate bow, the Sagittarius. They also yield the Minerva Bustier armor.

Page 1: Observations[]

Being an amorph said to come from a sea of blood, found most commonly near battlefields and other places where battle-gore flows in rivers. A constant internal burning sets the crimson spray splashed upon it to boiling, spreading the rusted-iron scent of old blood on the air... a scent known to call other spirits of the dead. With this in mind, should you happen to encounter one of these foul things, be done with it quickly, or you may find that you have more on your hands than you bargained for.

Battle[]

Foobar can use Mythril Bubbles to Confuse party members, and are often accompanied by other difficult enemies, including the dangerous Leamonde Entite in the Nabreus Deadlands. Foobars also join in the battle against the Esper Cúchulainn, and can still be fought there even after the Esper is defeated. They are weak against Holy and curative magick.

Strategy[]

The Garamsythe Waterway version is susceptible to Disable, making it harmless. This is convenient during the battle against Cúchulainn and when farming Foobars afterwards.

The Nabreus Deadlands version is more challenging due to wide-ranging status immunities. Blinding it can help by making its physical attacks often miss. Having protection against Confuse is helpful since two of the Foobar's attacks inflict Confuse.

Against both versions, holy-elemental weapons such as Holy Lance and Excalibur are useful for dealing damage. The Curaja spell can do great damage to groups of Foobars (and to any other undead enemies nearby, such as the ones common in Nabreus Deadlands).

Etymology[]

The name Foobar may derive from the acronym FUBAR. This may be supported by it being made up of blood from unidentifiable battle remains. The name may also derive from foobar, a common placeholder used by computer programmers. It may also refers to fubá, a fine flour made from ground corn or rice, widely used in Brazilian cuisine, as flan enemies often have food/dessert-related names.
